Chapter 91: The Dark Entity [3]
The fear was mind wrecking.
He jumped backward with a flinch to put a distance between himself and the shadow.
But then he realized he messed up by doing that.
Jumping back shouldn't have been what he did. But instead, he thought he should have instantly grabbed the shadow by the neck and strangled it back to death.
Koul put his guard up.
He squared up, alert and ready for the shadow's attack.
But the shadow sat up. And slowly like his neck was stiff, turned his gaze toward Koul's direction.
Koul flinched, but he stood his ground.
However, the shadow didn't launch at him or attack him like he expected. Instead, it remained sitting calmly, staring at Koul with clueless eyes.
Koul stared back in silence, fists still clenched and raised.
The moment stretched for long as both of them remained staring into each other's souls.
But after a while, the shadow's head tilted cluelessly in question.
"…."
Huh?!
Koul relaxed his fist, and straightened up. He wondered what was up with the shadow now that he had resurrected.
"Why do you keep staring at me like that?" He asked, irritated and unsettled by the eerie stagnant stare from the shadow.
Again, the shadow tilted his head to the other side in question.
"M-master?" He called.
A heavy rock of shock fell upon Koul. He froze in place, his brow twitching.
What now?
"Master?" The shadow called again.
"Master?" And again, he called.
He kept repeating the word 'master' like a child practicing their first word.
"Master?"
Koul's ears twitched from the repetition. Annoyance was blooming.
"Who the hell is your master?" he asked, clearly irritated. "Like this bastard didn't kill me some moments ago."
"Master?" The shadow continued regardless, as if Koul's words couldn't make his ears.
With a frustrated sigh, Koul massaged his brows.
Could this thing really see me as his master?
Is he not Koul then?
His eyes zeroed on the shadow, scrutinizing it.
Or is he putting on an act?
Koul's eyes narrowed.
"Get off the bed," he commanded.
It was to see whether the shadow would obey or not.
At the command, the shadow rose and left the bed.
Koul narrowed his eyes again, still in doubt.
"Jump!" He said.
Another command to see if it will actually obey.
The shadow didn't waste time and jumped.
Koul's eyes turned dull from exasperation. He could already see the shadow wasn't putting up any act and might actually see him as his master.
"Why am I your master?" He asked.
The shadow didn't respond immediately. He stared at Koul for a moment before speaking up.
"Master!" He pointed at Koul.
Seriously!
Koul walked back to his bed and sat down. He was still alert in case the shadow wanted to attack him.
Though he feared because the shadow seemed to be able to move fluidly and bend into shapes.
He feared for how he would notice if the shadow decided to creep up on him with his long hand from beneath bed.
SIGH!
He exhaled.
"You.. how did you come out from me? How were you inside me? How long have you been inside me?" He shot without break.
The shadow, understanding his question but not knowing the answer, simply shrugged.
"Hmm.." Koul placed his chin between his thumb and index finger to think.
"Are you like those monsters trapped inside the body of living humans and make them go berserk when they can't control you?"
"…."
The shadow stared at Koul, speechless.
"What? Answer it."
The shadow nodded.
I knew it!
"You… you've killed Koul before, haven't you?"
Again, the shadow nodded.
Koul's face twisted in disgust at the shadow's blatant response.
He's not even afraid to admit it.
He'd guessed by now that the shadow wasn't Koul. If it was him, his pride wouldn't let him act this way.
"But, right now, you're confused why I'm back alive and why you couldn't kill me again, aren't you?" Koul smiled big.
Well, technically, he did kill me, but…. I'm still alive so that's in the past…
The shadow nodded.
?? Can it not talk?
"Why were you sealed inside my body?" Koul questioned.
He had started interrogating the shadow.
The shadow spread his hands and shrugged while shaking his head.
Hmm…
"Then, who sealed you inside my body?" He pressed.
"People," the shadow replied.
"…."
"Are you dumb? Of course I know it was by people! But who?"
"Dark people."
"…."
Dark? Were they cloaked in black like the judges? Dark people are what I would call the judges as well if I didn't know who they were because they're cloaked in all black.
I don't think the judges are responsible for it though.
Anyways, so I know at least this much now.
This monster or whatever he is was put inside the body of Koul. By who? I don't know yet. But I'm sure they are powerful people.
And the reason they did this? Still eludes me.
Koul raised his gaze back at the shadow.
"If your initial goal was to kill me, why do you now see me as your master?"
"You killed me."
"Because I killed you?"
The shadow nodded.
"Hmm, so if a person kills you, they become your master when you revive?"
Again, the shadow nodded.
Didn't seem that hard to do though. Just how lame was Koul?
"…."
I can't be talking when it also killed me…
"And? Why were you so bent on killing me?"
Koul's eyes turned cold as they pierced the shadow.
"Just because," the shadow shrugged.
This bastard, Koul grinded his teeth.
He was annoyed by the shadow's prideful confidence, but it wasn't like he could defeat it if a fight broke out.
He hadn't known the shadow long enough, and knew nothing about it. Getting into a fight with it would be risky.
"Well, that's all in the past. Right now, I'm your master, right?"
NOD.
"You now live to serve me, is that right?"
NOD!
From there, Koul interrogated the shadow about what he could do. Asked him about his combat skills and many other things he was interested to know.
He also found out the shadow can live within him and he could summon it out at any given time he wanted.
He spent the night knowing more about the shadow and only went to sleep very early in the morning. Before he did, he asked the shadow back inside him.
*********
Koul narrated all this to the judges, except some parts he preferred to keep to himself.
The judges were surprised, as well as confused. They didn't know something like this had happened.
A situation where a monster was sealed inside a human that it ended up killing the human.
Their gazes darted among themselves, the shock palpable.
After a while, they questioned.
|| Where is the monster then since you're still alive? ||
Koul smirked.
"I killed it of course. Why else would I be alive?"
The judges stared at him with doubt. They'd believed his story before but this just made them doubtful.
"If you're finding it hard to believe that I could kill the monster or that something like this ever happened, you can check my death count on my profile. I'm sure you all keep records of how it goes."
And indeed, the judges knew one death count had been minused from Koul's deaths. They'd been updated on how every other one was expended but not this one.
And they've been wondering but didn't want to ask Koul because of their pride. They were secretly working to find things out themselves.
|| Indeed. || they confirmed.
|| With this, you've fulfilled your part of the deal. Now then, shall we talk about your disrespect toward us and the punishment for it? ||
Huh?! Are these bastards sick in the head?
"Punishment? Is that how you want to show your gratitude?" He asked.
"Do you think just anyone would tell you such important information that you all couldn't even discover? I could have decided to keep it to myself, but being the kind soul I am, I didn't. Yet, you want to persecute me this way. If you treat me this way, how do you expect me to bring you other useful information in the future?"
|| …||
They stared down speechlessly at Koul.
But after some moments, they spoke.
|| Fine then. We will pardon you this time just because you brought us this important piece of information. And for the possibility of other useful ones in the future. ||
|| You may leave. ||
Just before Koul drifted away, he locked eyes with the emerald eyed woman.
Koul found himself back in his dorm, laying in his bed.
He clenched his fist.
Good! They bought the lie about the shadow being dead. I can continue to use it and grow strong enough to overthrow the judges.
