Transmigrated Into The Kingdom Of Heaven As The Supreme Deity

Chapter 4: Path Of Eternity

The creature's lips curved into a faint smile, though it winced from the effort. Its voice was steady, yet there was an undertone of pain, like a melody that was slightly out of tune.

"Not what, mortal," it said softly, its voice echoing as though the cave itself carried its words. "But who."

Lex blinked, unable to tear his gaze away from the creature's celestial eyes. They shimmered like galaxies, swirling with colors and patterns that seemed to shift with every passing second.

"You—you're talking to me?" Lex stammered, stepping back instinctively. "I mean, obviously you are, but what are you? Some kind of... angel?"

The creature gave a faint, tired chuckle. "Angel? No. I am far beyond such beings." It paused, a flicker of frustration crossing its expression as the golden spear embedded in its chest pulsed with a searing glow.

Lex flinched at the sight, but the creature's gaze held him still. "I am… what you mortals would call a deity. A guardian of balance, a weaver of realms."

Lex's mouth felt dry. His voice cracked as he spoke. "So why... why are you here? Shouldn't you be in some, I don't know, heavenly palace or something?"

The deity's smile faded, and its glowing eyes dimmed slightly. "Betrayal. War. I was struck down and forced to descend... to this fragile realm of mortals." It gestured weakly toward the spear, grimacing as it did. "And now... I am dying..."

Lex thought the Deity had finished speaking, but no, the Deity's last statement struck him hard.

"...And... it's all your fault."

Lex raised a brow, shock written all over his face. He couldn't believe what he was hearing.

Lex took a hesitant step closer, his curiosity outweighing his fear. "How is it my fault? I have never even met you before...That thing... the spear? Can't you just pull it out?"

The deity shook its head, a bitter edge to its voice. "It is no ordinary weapon. It was forged to bind and destroy my essence, the essence of my people, locking me in this pitiful state."

Lex paused for a moment. "So how is it my fault? I mean, I am certainly not the one that created the spear, am I?"

The Deity shook his head, being very careful not to move. "Of course you aren't. It's more than that, kid. You humans, have neglected your duty, upsetting the balance of nature. Your race has stopped me from accomplishing my task, and now, I would need a successor. A successor to carry the curse..."

Lex suddenly fek the room spin. "Woah, wait a moment, that graduated too quickly. What curse? How did we get there?"

The Deity nodded. "Someone would need to take over my place and fight the war, someone needs to win it for us, the celestials and the whole of humanity."

"What does that have to do with a curse?" Lex asked, not liking the feeling he was getting from the conversation.

"You see... The Deity began. The post in itself is a curse, I was born a curse...and I was supposed to carry that curse alone, but your people ruined that...and you...are their leader."

"What!?" Lex shouted in surprise. That was the most daring thing he had ever had.

The Deity waved his hand and a cold breeze blew by, dropping a memory into Lex's mind.

"What is this?" Lex asked, who are these people? Or wait, I know them, but...how does that even relate to this situation?"

The Deity nodded. "It makes it easier you remember them. You have successfully changed the lives of over two billion people, whether directly or indirectly."

Lex paused. "Changed their lives, how?"

The Deity continued. "You managed to convince them that we, the deities don't exist..."

"Oh shit..." Lex clicked his tongue in realization.

The Deity shook his head. You, the most unreligious person on earth has..."

Lex had had it up to neck level. "What!!?? I am the most unreligious person on earth!? How is that possible? I mean, there are people who own church of the devil and all that stuff!"

The Deity whimpered a bit, he seemed very tired. "Those who worship the devil are still religious people, they just don't believe in me, rather they go for the opposite. But you...you have snapped the powers of our race, rendering us ineffective in the war..."

For a moment, silence filled the cave, broken only by the faint hum of the light radiating from the deity's body. Then, to Lex's surprise, the creature's gaze softened, and it looked at him with an almost pleading expression. But that expression disappeared instantly, being swiftly replaced by anger which Lex couldn't understand.

"I called out to you," the deity said, "because I cannot heal myself. "But you..." It trailed off, studying him intently.

"Me?" Lex pointed at himself, incredulous. "You think I can help you? I'm just some guy with a beat-up skateboard and zero life plans."

The deity's faint smile returned. "You must take responsibility for your action, Lex. You must carry the curse..."

Lex shuddered a bit. For the first time, he regretted ever blaspheming. But yet again, these deities had totally failed him and now, what? It was going to curse him? Even when it had never done anything good for him?

"I see into the threads of fate," the deity replied. "And your thread... is brighter than most. You have the potential to wield something extraordinary, something that can save us... and perhaps much more. But you have also ruined it, the changes are now lower than ever, but still, you must carry on the effects of your reckless talks..."

Lex hesitated. He wanted to run, to escape this bizarre, otherworldly encounter, but something deep inside him—an instinct he couldn't explain—kept him rooted to the spot. Maybe it wasn't his instinct, maybe it was the celestial being in action.

"I am just a kid, a powerless one at that, how can I accokplish this?" he asked cautiously. He was going to try and dissuade the deity without letting him know.

As far as Lex could understand, the deity was simply exerting revenge on him. After all he could have chosen someone stronger and more powerful.

The deity's eyes glowed brighter. "You would be offered a gift. That is the best I can do for you, you are undeserving of it, but I have to do it, as the last act of kindness I would render.

Lex swallowed hard. "Gift? What kind of gift?"

"A breathing technique," the deity said, its voice steady despite its evident pain. "A sacred method that will grant you strength beyond imagination. But with it comes a great burden—and great danger."

Lex's heart pounded as he considered the words. He wanted to say no, to walk away from whatever madness this was, but a part of him—a small, reckless part—was intrigued.

"What's the catch?" Lex asked, narrowing his eyes.

The deity gave a faint laugh, though it quickly turned into a wince. "You are perceptive. The catch is this: if you accept my gift, your life will no longer be your own. You will be drawn into a conflict far greater than you can comprehend."

Lex let out a small grin in spite of himself. If I accept your gift? And if I don't?"

The Deity smiled cautiously. "A smart one indeed. If you don't, then you have nothing to fend the great conflict off with, and you would die a sure death, ushering the whole of humanity into captivity.

Lex stared at the deity, his mind racing. He thought about Anna, about his aimless life, about the strange pull that had brought him here.

The deity's eyes burned brighter, filling the cave with radiant light. "Then I shall show you... the path to eternity."
