Chapter 68 - Junior and Senior Sister
No one knew why, but the sect master and senior brother spared no effort in providing Tang Yuan with resources. Yet, no one guided her cultivation, taught her how to use spiritual energy, or allowed her access to anything beyond the lowest level of techniques in the sect’s library.
Tang Yuan wasn’t fond of cultivation to begin with. Without guidance or supervision, she naturally let herself remain idle.
Even Jiang Zi couldn’t understand their intentions. But in that moment, she felt a desire to guide junior sister in her cultivation.
In this world, it’s hard to survive without absolute strength. The law of the jungle prevails—strength commands respect.
But to Jiang Zi’s surprise, Tang Yuan refused her.
Having cried enough, Tang Yuan stopped sobbing. She wiped her tear-streaked face, and when she heard Jiang Zi’s offer, she resolutely declined.
“I don’t want to.” Her voice still carried the heaviness of her sniffles.
Jiang Zi was confused. “Why? If you’re angry at me, I apologize for my earlier attitude.”
Her tone was sincerely apologetic.
Tang Yuan shook her head. “I’m not angry. I just don’t want to cultivate.”
She tugged gently at Jiang Zi’s sleeve, swaying it. “Senior sister, can you take me back? It’ll take forever to walk.”
Her red-rimmed eyes made her look like a little rabbit.
Jiang Zi stared at her in silence, seemingly at a loss for words. Finally, she handed Tang Yuan a teleportation talisman, sending her back to her quarters.
In fact, Tang Yuan had numerous life-saving talismans stored in her ring, with teleportation talismans being the most abundant. However, she couldn’t recognize them and had no idea what each one did.
This event was nothing more than a minor episode. Life quickly returned to its usual rhythm.
The treasures Jiang Zi gathered from her missions were handed over to the sect master, who, in turn, sent them all to Tang Yuan. Ultimately, most of what Jiang Zi acquired ended up in Tang Yuan’s possession.
Five years later, the severe allocation of resources to Tang Yuan began to affect the sect. Many disciples grew increasingly resentful of Jiang Zi, blaming her lack of effort for their diminishing resources.
Those who knew the truth—including the sect master and his closest disciples—didn’t speak up for her. They believed that under such criticism, Jiang Zi would be motivated to work even harder for the sect.
Both were prominent figures in the sect, but everyone’s affections leaned towards the little junior sister.
Under the ancient tree that symbolized the sect, Jiang Zi was being cornered by several disciples. They berated her, using moral coercion in hopes of obtaining resources from her.
That’s when Tang Yuan appeared.
“Senior sister.”
She held a silver-white sword hilt in her hand, gripping it clumsily. She awkwardly poked Jiang Zi’s shoulder with it.
“Senior sister, I don’t like the things you bring back. Next time you go down the mountain, can you get me some dresses? Maybe some jewelry. Those would make me much happier.”
Tang Yuan removed the storage ring from her finger and gently placed it on Jiang Zi’s shoulder. “I really don’t want these.”
Even those who were pressuring Jiang Zi were stunned by Tang Yuan’s flippant attitude. Fearing Jiang Zi might retaliate and harm Tang Yuan, some quickly stepped in to mediate.
“Senior sister, junior sister is just straightforward. She’s only asking for a few dresses.”
“How much could dresses cost? There’s no need to get upset over this.”
Ignoring the chatter, Jiang Zi retrieved the storage ring from her shoulder, turned it over in her palm for a moment, then slid it onto her own middle finger.
The silver ring, etched with icy patterns, fit her perfectly.
“Come down the mountain with me. I’ll take you to buy dresses.”
Tang Yuan tilted her head, eyes gleaming with innocence. “Can I spend as much as I want?”
Jiang Zi replied, “Spend to your heart’s content.”
“Alright!” Tang Yuan hugged the sword clumsily. “Let’s leave right now.”
Jiang Zi took Tang Yuan to explore the mortal world for a month. No one knew what happened during their time there.
When Jiang Zi returned alone, Tang Yuan’s soul lantern had extinguished. The sect master and their peers were furious.
Years of nurturing had finally brought Tang Yuan’s True Divine Spirit Root to near completion. If extracted at this moment, it could elevate its possessor to godhood.
Moreover, Tang Yuan’s body, nourished by countless treasures, had developed a Dual Cultivation Sacred Physique. Even without the spirit root, cultivating with her could dramatically boost one’s cultivation, leading to ascension within a century.
They had raised her as if she were a treasured heirloom. But just as their dreams were about to be realized, Tang Yuan’s soul lantern went out, and her True Divine Spirit Root was fused into the sect’s spiritual veins, merging with the world’s energy forever.
Their grand plans crumbled. Years of effort turned to dust.
Tang Yuan had always been at their mercy, but Jiang Zi wasn’t. They couldn’t defeat her and could only watch as she shattered her soul lantern. Covered in blood, Jiang Zi walked out of the sect step by step, unchallenged.
The sect branded her a demon and expelled her, petitioning righteous factions to list her for elimination.
Yet not long after, the sect was annihilated by the demon sects. This time, the little junior sister didn’t sacrifice her life to defend it.
What no one knew was that Jiang Zi had secretly trained Tang Yuan for five years. Though Tang Yuan often slacked off, claiming she didn’t want to dirty her dresses, Jiang Zi indulged her. Even if Tang Yuan’s cultivation wasn’t high, Jiang Zi was willing to be her sharpest blade.
The senior sister and junior sister lived an ordinary life among mortals.
The story ends here. From beginning to end, there was no male lead. The protagonists were only the senior sister and the junior sister.
That’s the end?
Tang Yuan tapped on the tablet, searching for more content. But there was no continuation, no hidden buttons to press. The final scene was frozen: Jiang Zi embracing Tang Yuan on a chair, their lips meeting.
Tang Yuan absentmindedly poked at the game character on the screen. Her finger slipped, hitting the exit button, which took her back to the game lobby.
The bright glare of the overhead fluorescent light stung her eyes. She rubbed them and muttered softly, “Ah, I’m so sleepy.”
Jiang Zi reached over to take the tablet from her hands, setting it on the desk before climbing back onto the bed. Tang Yuan lowered her head, fiddling with the blankets, and slowly lay down.
It was already three in the morning. They had spent five straight hours going through the entire storyline in one sitting.
Jiang Zi scooted closer, noticing something off about Tang Yuan’s mood. A slight panic flickered in her chest. She reached out, gently cupping Tang Yuan’s face. “What’s wrong? You’re not happy?”
Tang Yuan closed her eyes and shook her head. “No, I’m just tired. Let’s sleep, Sister.”
Jiang Zi wrapped her arms around Tang Yuan over the blanket, half-laying on top of her, her chin resting lightly on Tang Yuan’s chest. “Is my wifey dissatisfied with the way I rewrote the script?”
“Please don’t ignore me dear.”
