Chapter 52 : My Idiot
Azrael looked at his sister, truly looked at her, and felt the crushing weight of a guilt that wasn't his, but one he now wore like a second skin.
He took a slow breath. "I am sorry, Celestria," he said, his voice quiet but clear. "For whatever I have done, you can curse me, beat me. I won't have a single grudge, a single complaint about it."
He met her tear-filled gaze without flinching. "Yes, I was a complete sadness in your life. I was a complete bastard. But Celestria, hear this... 'I was'."
He took a step closer, his own performance beginning, a lie woven with threads of a truth he had only read about. "I have changed. Completely. After the things I have witnessed, after seeing the outside world, the people... I know I always chose the wrong path. I even chose a wrong person."
He let out a short, self-deprecating laugh. "But thanks to that, I got to know the real meaning of love. Not the kind that dazzles you, but the kind that breaks you, rebuilds you, and teaches you who truly stands by your side."
His eyes, full of a carefully crafted sincerity, locked onto hers. "It was you, Celestria. I figured it out too late. You were the one who always stood by my side, and I won't forget that. Even if you hate me, I won't have a single thread of hatred for you. My blessings will always be for your good."
She was stunned, the flow of her own pained confession interrupted by his.
He pressed on, his voice dropping, becoming more earnest. "Celestria, your brother is dead. The one that looked at this world like he owned it, the bastard of a brother that never felt the affection he was bestowed by his sister. All that is left of him is a boy who wants a life away from dangers, away from evils, away from any corruption. A simple life."
Then, he did something the old Azrael would have rather died than do. He bent his knees and bowed down in front of her, his forehead nearly touching the dirt-caked ground.
"Not with ego," he said, his voice muffled but genuine. "But with all my heart... I am sorry, sister. For everything."
She looked at this sight. The sight she had wanted so badly, had dreamed of for years, yet knew was impossible. But here it was. Unreal. Her brother, apologizing.
She put both her hands on his shoulders, her touch gentle. She pulled him back onto his feet. And then... she pulled him into a tight hug.
Her face, buried in his shoulder, was full of tears. Her cold, marble-like expression was gone, melted away by a flood of emotion.
"I was waiting for this damn day," she sobbed, her voice thick and broken. "I have envisioned it daily... our childhood."
She held him tighter. "When you wouldn't listen to me and went to eat that spicy grilled fish. When you got hurt after I told you not to climb the tree. You came back to me always, after every mistake, and you would say you were sorry. Sorry for not listening."
She pulled back, her hands still on his shoulders, looking at his face. "And then that little brother of mine was gone. And now... now I am seeing him again today."
A small, watery smile touched her lips. "And like every time I did back in our childhood, I will do the same today."
She gently patted his hair. "You think a sorry fixes everything?"
He was confused for a second, completely lost. He didn't know the lines to this play. Seeing his confusion, Celestria's expression softened even more, a deep, nostalgic sadness in her eyes. She spoke for him, her voice a soft echo of a memory. "'No'," she whispered. "'But it's all I have.'" It was what he used to say. The words he always used.
Her smile widened, tears still tracking paths down her cheeks. "Then give me that sorry. And never make me need another."
She looked up at the sky. "But you always give me one, time to time. And this time, I wont accept another one it should be like you said that side of you is dead."
Her gaze dropped back to his, her violet eyes clear and resolved. "I forgive you."
She wiped her tears away with the back of her hand. "You're an idiot," she said softly. "But you're my idiot."
Azrael was confused again after seeing her side a voice escaped from him huh.
Her demeanor shifted in an instant. The warmth vanished, replaced by her usual cold mask. "Ofcourse," she said, her voice crisp. "Thats the thing i used to say in childhood after your apology."
She let go of him and turned back to the cart. They started walking again, the silence different this time. It wasn't awkward. It was comfortable.
"By the way," Celestria said, not looking at him. "You were impressive in the fight."
He was surprised. "The technique you used was brilliant. I am really happy you could use your brain that effectively."
He puffed out his chest a little. "Heh, what do you mean by that? I'm not dumb."
She laughed. A real, genuine laugh that echoed in the quiet forest. He found himself laughing with her.
"By the way," she said, her laughter subsiding. "When did you awaken your affinity for that thread?"
"When I got back on my path," he said vaguely. "When I got my senses back."
She didn't press for details, but he could tell she was happy with the answer. "That affinity suits you," she said, a teasing note in her voice. "A weak affinity for a weakling. A perfect match. Haha."
He wanted to argue, but seeing her smile he left the idea he felt first time his act had changed a fate and someone not just someone but now a figure like her real sister.
He then realized one more thing and then said, "Hey Celestria i wanted to say something."
She said, "Yeah go ahead."
He said, "Umm... how do I put this well i just used the two Aether stones from the family vault."
He could see her dangerous glare as if she would beat him but then he said, "I am really sorry again" he said bowing to her.
She then laughed hard, harder. "You will never change, huh? I just told you I won't accept another sorry, and yet you are still the same old Azrael I know."
Then his scared face was back to normal while her laughing face was back to cold.
She said, "however I won't leave you for your crime this time."
He murmured, "fuck I am done."
Then she said, "Well when i mentioned Elarion I thought of an idea."
He was confused what idea.
She said, "Well, I will do what I have always done: protect you. I will send you to the Ethereal Nexus Academy, as you are in very real danger here. We witnessed it today. And no one here can protect you from those threats."
He thought, 'Ethereal Nexus Academy no way I am going, I am moving away from this stupid novel plot.'
