Chapter 173: Wings of Jealousy

The dust from Dila's accidental explosion had barely settled, and the students slowly shuffled back into formation, their robes brushing against the uneven ground. A nervous energy lingered in the air, mixed with awe and a dash of fear. Some students tried to channel their mana into their brooms again, but for many, it wobbled uncontrollably or simply refused to lift off. A few managed to sync the broom to their mana, but their balance was shaky at best—they teetered and leaned dangerously before collapsing onto the ground with soft thuds.

Professor Galahad's eyes twinkled behind his glasses as he stifled a chuckle. He cleared his throat dramatically, puffing out his chest and pretending to be stern. "Ahem... let's try to maintain some dignity while flying, shall we?" His voice carried lightly across the field, and the students scrambled to hide their embarrassment, some reddening while others muttered under their breath.

Dila leaned back slightly, arms crossed, eyes glinting with amusement as she observed the chaos. Every wobble, tumble, and nervous flinch made her stifle a soft laugh.

Meanwhile, Canopy was a sight to behold. His broom quivered and bucked under him like a wild stallion. He scrunched his face, stuck his tongue out in concentration, and muttered, "C'mon, c'mon... work with me!" His hands gripped the broom tightly, fingers white from the strain, and every tiny twitch of mana made his expression contort in the most ridiculous ways.

A few students couldn't help but snicker at him. One whispered, "Is he really trying that hard just to float a broom?" while another whispered back, "Look at that face! It's like he's wrestling a dragon that isn't there!"

Canopy ignored them—or at least he tried to—but a small squeak escaped his throat as the broom shivered violently. He grunted, flailing slightly, and for a moment, he hovered a few inches off the ground before plopping back down with a soft thump.

Dila quietly chuckled under her breath, shaking her head. "Even the so-called The new fake proclaim Archmage struggles with his own magic... this is too funny," she thought, her lips twitching in amusement. The students around her glanced over nervously, realizing even nobility wasn't immune to the clumsiness of unpracticed magic.

Professor Galahad merely shook his head with a soft chuckle, his hands clasped behind his back. "Patience, patience," he said. "Even mastery begins with a wobble or two. Keep focused!"

The field buzzed with the mix of effort, fear, and laughter. Mana sparks flickered around the students, the occasional whoosh of a broom sputtering upward, and the faint smell of ozone from strained magic filled the cool morning air.

Dila's eyes shone—not with the thrill of her own magic this time—but with a quiet, warm amusement watching her classmates fumble. Even Canopy, with his ridiculous faces and stubborn determination, made the morning feel lighter.

It was chaotic, it was messy, but it was also oddly... joyful.

Out of nowhere, a sudden spark of wind kicked up dust around Canopy's feet. The faint hum of mana pulsed through the air, and everyone turned their heads again. His broom... actually started to float.

At first, it trembled uncertainly, swaying left and right as if deciding whether to obey him or throw him off again. But this time, Canopy's eyes gleamed. His grin widened as he muttered, "Alright... alright... steady now."

And then—whoosh!

The broom lifted cleanly from the ground. Gasps echoed around the field. He then tried to stand on top of the broom one foot at a time then managed to balance one foot on the broom, then the other, until both were planted firmly as if he were riding a hoverboard instead of sitting like a normal person. His posture was ridiculous, but his confidence was unmatched.

"Prince Canopy! Behave yourself!" Professor Galahad's voice rang out, his tone half-command, half-exasperation. His cape fluttered from the gust of mana as he raised a hand, ready to stop him.

But it was already too late.

"WHOOOO-HOOOOOO!"

Canopy shot upward into the air, wobbling violently as he flailed both arms in panic and thrill at once. His legs bent and straightened like he was surfing an invisible wave, and his hair was whipping in every direction. The students gasped, some shielding their faces from the wind that burst across the training field.

"Whoa—look at that!" one shouted.

"He actually did it!" said another.

"Wait—why's he standing like that?! Is that even allowed?!"

Dila's mouth dropped open, her blue eyes glimmering in disbelief. She clenched her fists tightly.

Nooooo! It should be me, not him!

She dropped to her knees dramatically, her hands slamming onto the ground. "Ughh!!" she groaned under her breath, face scrunched like a child whose favorite snack had been stolen.

Inside her mind, a familiar frail voice echoed. ☆ Awkward... ☆

Dila blinked. "What.... what do you mean awkward?!" she said in her mind, her face still buried in her hands.

☆ Are you referencing that meme? Because it's funny though... ☆ Nari giggled softly, her tone teasing.

Dila froze. "Wait—how did you know it was a meme?!"

☆ Hehehe, because your thoughts said so, master! I can read some of them, remember? ☆

Nari's delicate laugh filled Dila's mind like little bells.

Dila sighed in defeat, puffing her cheeks as she muttered, "Ugh... shut up... and i don't remember that you can read some of my thoughts."

☆ Ehhh? But you're the one who said it in your mind first, before you can execute it hahaha! ☆ Nari giggled again, clearly enjoying herself.

Meanwhile, up in the sky, Canopy spun in an unintentional twirl before catching himself. "HAHA! Look, I can do it!" he yelled proudly, wobbling in midair like a bird that just learned how to fly.

The students below cheered and laughed. Even Professor Galahad couldn't hide his small grin behind a hand as he muttered, "This class... will be the death of me."

And there was Dila... sitting on the grass, still sulking, cheeks puffed, eyes glaring at the flying Canopy as Nari kept giggling in her head.

It was hard to tell whether she wanted to cry, laugh, or throw her broom at him. Probably all three.

☆ Are you really that jealous, master? ☆ Nari's delicate voice teased inside Dila's head, the tone soft but dripping with playful amusement.

Dila puffed her cheeks, crossing her arms and glaring off to the side as if ignoring both Nari and the sight of Canopy doing spins in the air like a show-off. "Hmmmph! Yes, I am!" she muttered under her breath, her silver hair bouncing slightly with her movement.

She turned her head dramatically, refusing to look back toward the sky. "Why shouldn't I be?!" she whispered to herself, overacting like a character in one of those romance dramas she once sometimes binge-watched. "I should be the protagonist of this world the first to know how things work... like the manga, or manhua, or anime I used to watch and read when I was alive in my past life..."

Her voice softened near the end, a faint pout curling her lips. The memory of her old life flickered briefly through her mind—quiet nights, glowing screen, her heart racing at every exciting scene. It was the only time she ever escaped reality. Now... she was actually living in a world like that. And still, somehow, someone else was stealing her spotlight.

☆ Hehehe! Chill, chill, master... ☆ Nari giggled faintly, her tone sweet like a teasing little sister. ☆ Not all protagonists are always the star of the show, you know. Sometimes the side characters outshine them too! ☆

Dila froze for a second, eyes twitching. "Yeah right..." she said stubbornly in her mind, puffing her cheeks even harder, clearly not accepting Nari's reasoning.

☆ Aww come on... don't be like that! ☆ Nari giggled again, the sound echoing like faint bells.

But Dila just looked away farther, hugging her broom like a grumpy child who didn't get her candy. "Hmph... stupid side characters..." she mumbled quietly, her voice trailing with a sulky tone.

Meanwhile, Canopy was still flailing midair, barely keeping balance as the other students cheered and laughed. The sight only made Dila puff harder, her expression caught between jealousy, pride, and reluctant amusement.

Nari's laughter bubbled softly again in her head. ☆ You're adorable when you pout, master. ☆

"Shut up..." Dila muttered softly, but the faint smile on her lips betrayed her.

As Canopy was still up there, wobbling in the air like a circus performer who didn't know what balance meant. He swung one arm out, trying to show off. "Haha! Look, everyone! I can control it perfectly now—whoaaa! just you wait!"

He waved with one hand, the broom spinning slightly in midair. The crowd below gasped and giggled. His grin widened, full of confidence, until his nose suddenly twitched. "Ah… ahhhh… achooo!"

The sneeze was so strong that the broom jolted like it got hit by lightning.

"Uh-oh," Canopy muttered, eyes widening.

☆ Oh no... ☆ Nari whispered faintly in Dila's mind, right before the chaos began.

The students below screamed and scattered as Canopy spun like a human pinwheel. "Waaaaa—wait wait wait! I got this! I got—" CRASH!!

He disappeared into the nearby trees with a loud rustling sound followed by a dull thud and some falling leaves. A single boot dropped from the branches. Then silence.

The students blinked. One brave voice whispered, "Is... he alive?"

And then, a faint, muffled voice came from the leaves. "...I meant to land here."

The entire class erupted in laughter. Even Professor Galahad pinched the bridge of his nose and raised his right hand, trying to calm the laughter. "Prince Canopy... please refrain from unnecessary stunts before you lose the rest of your dignity."

But his voice couldn't hide the chuckle sneaking in at the end.

Dila was holding her stomach, tears forming in the corners of her eyes as she laughed uncontrollably. "Hahahahaha! Serve him right!" she managed between gasps, her silver hair shaking as she leaned forward.

☆ Happy now, master? ☆ Nari's soft, playful voice chimed in her mind.

Dila tried to regain her composure, crossing her arms with exaggerated pride. "No... I don't," she said stubbornly, turning her head away again.

☆ Hehe... I know you're happy, master. ☆

Dila's lips twitched despite herself, fighting the grin sneaking onto her face. She closed her eyes more, pretending to be annoyed. "Hmph..." she muttered softly.

But the faint, warm smile on her lips said otherwise.
