Chapter 13: Chapter 12: First Tame
My heartbeat felt deafening as I stared into the darkness, at the pair of glowing eyes fixed on me.
The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end, but my legs moved before my brain could stop them.
"What the hell are you doing?" I muttered to myself, inching forward.
Each step felt heavier than the last, as though the earth itself wanted to hold me back.
"This is the stupidest idea you've ever had. Glowing eyes in the dark? Yeah, let's walk straight into that."
Despite my internal protests, I kept moving.
Something about the eyes unknown yet strangely captivating pulled me in.
When I was close enough to make out the faint outline of the object, my breath hitched.
It wasn't a creature. At least, it didn't seem like one.
It was a cube.
About the size of a small chest, its surface was smooth and black.
What caught my attention, though, were the eyes.
Dozens of them, glowing blue, were embedded in its surface, their eerie light piercing through the weeds and vines wrapped around it.
As I stood there, frozen, the eyes began to close one by one, like some kind of bizarre flower shutting itself off from the world.
"Well… that's creepy, very creepy" I whispered, but the closing eyes gave me a strange sense of relief.
Maybe it wasn't alive after all.
Taking a deep breath, I stepped closer.
My hands itched to touch it, though I had no idea why.
The design was hypnotic, the symmetry of the cube almost too perfect.
"This better not be a trap, I won't survive the surprise" I murmured as I crouched down and began untangling the weeds wrapped tightly around it.
The vines were thick and stubborn, like they didn't want to let go of whatever this thing was.
I winced as a thorn scraped across the back of my hand, drawing blood.
"Damn," I muttered, shaking my hand and watching a bead of crimson drip onto the cube.
A wave of panic surged through me. "Oh no. Oh no. Please don't wake up. Please don't wake up."
I stared at the cube, waiting for the eyes to snap open and something terrible to happen.
But… nothing. The eyes remained closed, and the object stayed still.
"Okay," I breathed out, forcing myself to calm down. "Maybe it's just a… weird decoration? Or some ancient relic? Definitely not alive."
But I couldn't shake the feeling that the cube was watching me, even with its eyes shut.
Once the vines were finally gone, I couldn't resist reaching out.
My fingers brushed against the surface, and a shiver ran through me.
It was cool to the touch, with an almost metallic texture, but there was something else something that felt alive, beneath my fingertips it had a strong energy surroundings it.
"What is this, it doesn't seem normal?" I whispered to myself, wondering what the cube is.
Before I could pull my hand away, a window suddenly materialized in front of me, hovering in the air like some kind of holographic screen.
The system.
[In the darkness deep where evil dwells, A god roamed.]
[With fangs of night, it devoured light, Sun, moon, stars, lost to its might.]
[The multiverse trembled, a cosmic sigh.]
[As the gods, in fear, sealed it nigh.]
[Bound in silence, forgotten in time.]
[Yet in the dark, a heartbeat chimes.]
[From the void, a spawn is born]
[A flicker of fate, a hope forlorn.]
[As a price to pay, the fallen god soul is required]
[Brought to life in the darkness.]
[A spawn is born]
[To hunt the gods, And bring them down.]
[For in the darkness, where evil lies.]
[A god waits with a watchful eye.]
[Would you like to tame the spawn of a fallen god?]
[Yes] [No]
I stumbled back, nearly tripping over a root.
My mind raced as I stared at the glowing text.
"What the—? Spawn of a what?!"
The words floated there, waiting for my decision.
My pulse quickened as the implications of this hit me.
"This… this can't be real, do you expect me to tame a god" I said, shaking my head. Expecting the system window to disappear like a Illusion.
But the system window didn't disappear. It just hovered there.
A spawn of a fallen god? That sounded like the kind of thing in mythologys that destroys the entire world, kills the gods and destroys the heavens.
What if I tame it and it let loose one day and kills me and also destroys the world, i would be to blame for the world demise.
It's not like I care about the world though, but I also have doubts about it letting loose, my taming skill says I can tame any beast no matter the rank. so I would be perfectly fine.
But, Is taming something like this even possible.
I was asking myself a stupid question when the option to tame it was right in front of me.
Is this even allowed to exist in this world.
A fallen god spawn.
It may bring the earth demise.
What if I am now hunted by gods or humans who wants it for themselves or want to kill or seal it.
No, i doubt gods would come for me, right.
And yet, despite every rational thought screaming.
My hand moved toward the window.
"Why am I even considering this right now, this is an opportunity of a lifetime?" I muttered, my finger hovering over the 'Yes' option.
My curiosity took over my fears, and some inexplicable pull urged me to press it.
Before I could talk myself out of it.
I made my choice.
"Alright, let's see what happens."
I tapped the glowing 'Yes.'
