Chapter 123: Return to Konoha
Watching Karin eat with a genuine smile on her face warmed my heart. For someone who had endured so much pain and loneliness, seeing her experience even a small moment of happiness felt like a victory.
She finished her meal, placing the bowl aside carefully. "Thank you, Naruto," she said softly, looking at me with a mixture of gratitude and something deeper I couldn't quite place.
I leaned back and smiled. "You don't have to thank me every time, Karin. This is what I need to do for u.This is my responsibility. We look out for each other."
Her eyes shimmered again, but this time she held back her tears. "You're really something else," she said, shaking her head lightly. "I've never had anyone treat me like this before... it's strange, but... nice."
I laughed lightly. "Well, get used to it. This is just the beginning."
The quiet of the night settled around us, the warmth of the small house making the moment feel safe and peaceful. Karin yawned, her exhaustion catching up to her.
"You should get some rest," I said, gesturing to the cot.
"What about you?" she asked, glancing around the small room.
"I'll be fine," I assured her. "I'll keep watch for a bit and rest later. You've had a long day, so just relax."
She hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Okay. Goodnight, Naruto."
"Goodnight, Karin."
As she lay down, her breathing eventually evened out, signaling she had fallen asleep. I stayed where I was, leaning against the wall, watching over her.
"Don't worry, Karin," I murmured quietly to myself. "Your days of suffering are over. From now on, you'll only know warmth and safety."
With that silent vow, I continued my watch, ready to face whatever challenges tomorrow would bring.
As the sun rose, marking the start of a new day, I completed my usual training routine. Feeling refreshed, I called out, "Karin, are you awake?"
"Yes," she mumbled groggily as she stirred and sat up.
"Here, have this. It'll give you some energy," I said, handing her a drink I had prepared earlier.
She took a sip and smiled softly. "It's good," she said, her voice still a little sleepy.
"Get ready. We need to head to Konoha," I informed her. She nodded and quickly got herself ready.
Once she was ready, I extended my hand. "Karin, hold my hand," I said.
Without hesitation, she took it, her grip firm and trusting. Before leaving, I destroyed the temporary shelter we had been using to ensure no traces were left behind. Using the Flying Raijin, I teleported us directly to the gates of Konoha.
"Naruto, how is this even possible?" she exclaimed in shock as she took in her sudden change in surroundings.
"Nothing special, just a little trick I've mastered," I replied casually, trying to downplay it.
"Come on, my mom will be happy to see you. And so will my girlfriends," I added with a grin.
The mention of "girlfriends" seemed to catch her off guard. "What… girlfriends?" she asked, her tone a mix of curiosity and surprise.
"Yeah, I have girlfriends. I love them deeply, and they love me too. Why? Do you want to become one?" I teased with a smirk.
"Yes," she answered immediately, catching me completely off guard.
"Ah…" I stammered, genuinely shocked at her response.
"You look beautiful. Who would hesitate to accept a girl's love? Okay," I said, smiling warmly.
She beamed, her happiness evident. "Then take care of me, Naruto, from now on," she said softly.
"Same here, Karin," I replied, leaning closer.
Our lips met in a gentle kiss. At first, she hesitated, nervous about her first kiss, but soon she relaxed, leaning into the moment. As her confidence grew, the kiss deepened, and we both got lost in the warmth of the connection, marking the start of a new bond between us.
As we broke the kiss, I looked into Karin's eyes, which were sparkling with a mix of happiness and nervous excitement. "Welcome to the family, Karin," I said with a warm smile.
Her cheeks flushed, but she nodded firmly. "I'll do my best to be worthy of you, Naruto."
"You don't need to prove anything," I said, gently squeezing her hand. "You've already been through so much. Just focus on being yourself, and that's enough."
We approached the gates of Konoha, and the guards immediately straightened up at the sight of me.
"Naruto, welcome back," one of them said. Their gaze flicked to Karin, who was holding my hand. "And... your guest?"
"This is Karin Uzumaki," I said, my tone firm but friendly. "She's part of my clan, and from now on, she'll be living here with us in Konoha."
The guards nodded, stepping aside to let us through. "Welcome to Konoha, Karin," one of them said respectfully.
Karin stayed close to me as we walked into the village, her eyes wide with wonder as she took in the sights and sounds of the bustling streets. "This place is... different," she said softly.
"You'll get used to it," I assured her. "It's home, and soon it'll feel like home to you too."
We headed straight to my house, where I knew Mom would be waiting. As I opened the door, I called out, "Mom, I'm back!"
Kushina appeared almost instantly, her eyes lighting up when she saw me. "Naruto!" She hugged me tightly before her gaze shifted to Karin. "And who is this?"
"Mom, this is Karin," I said, pulling her gently forward. "She's part of the Uzumaki clan. I found her and brought her here to join us."
Kushina's expression softened as she looked at Karin, who was suddenly shy under her gaze. "Welcome, Karin," Mom said warmly, pulling her into a hug. "You're home now."
Karin hesitated for a moment before relaxing into the hug. "Thank you," she whispered.
I watched the scene unfold with a satisfied smile. Karin had a new home, a new family, and a new beginning. This was just the start of her new life, and I was determined to make sure it would be filled with happiness.
"Mom, where are the others that my clone brought here?" I asked, looking around the house for anyone.
"They've settled in the new house that Tsunade arranged for them," she replied with a soft smile.
"Then I need to thank her for that," I said, nodding in appreciation.
"Naruto, do you want to meet them?" she asked, her voice filled with curiosity.
"No, it's okay," I said thoughtfully. "Let them be for now. They've suffered so much. I'll meet them later when they're ready."
My mom nodded, understanding my decision. It was important for them to have time to settle and heal. I knew they would be safe and taken care of in their new home.
Kushina nodded understandingly, sensing the weight of my words. "I think that's for the best," she said gently. "They've been through a lot, and it might be good for them to settle in before meeting anyone else."
I gave a small nod in agreement, my mind already drifting towards the tasks ahead. "Yeah, I just want them to feel at peace for now. They deserve that much."
"Take your time," Mom said with a comforting smile. "You always know when the right moment is."
As I stood there, I felt a sense of responsibility weighing on me, not just for Karin, but for the people I had brought here. I needed to make sure they all felt safe and secure in this new chapter of their lives.
Karin, who had been quietly standing beside me, gave my hand a gentle squeeze. "Thank you again, Naruto," she said softly. "For everything."
"You're welcome," I replied with a small smile. "We're family now. That's what we do for each other."
"Yeah," she said, looking up at me with a shy smile. "Family."
The word felt heavy with meaning as I thought about all the people who had suffered, who had lost so much. I was going to do everything I could to make sure that never happened again, not on my watch.
