Transcendent Resurgence: Regressing on an abandoned Earth

Chapter 174: There’s always a deeper level of abyss

This wasn't the first time the word Biamie was mentioned on the boiling sea of Kiama. It was apparent that some sort of history was buried deep within this region of the ocean, but no one was in the mood to care about that.

[Alert! The star marked Tyrant is inflicted with the "Wrath of Biamie"]

The same warning was flashing with red lights over and over again. The players started to recover their MP and stamina while those with grave injuries were carried to the backlines. Under the unanimous decision of the marshals it had been decided that no more than 50,000 players would fight from this moment onwards.

One reason for that was the lack of HP and more importantly, mental fatigue. Army formations had a much lesser requirement when it came to willpower, but still, it wasn't something trivial. A lapse in concentration could cause the entire formation to collapse and potentially endanger the whole army.

The other, more important reason were the elemental seeds. As it stood, anyone without an elemental seed would be a hindrance at a critical moment. The transforming star marked tyrant proved that their judgment was indeed correct.

Who among the players hadn't seen countless grotesque and terrifying monsters? They believed that their minds were tempered enough to deal with anything the sanctuary threw at them. Only at this moment did they understand a quote Zyrus had said before– 'There's always a deeper level of abyss.'

The star marked tyrant was once again using 'Drag', but this time, its target was none other than its own body.

Its wings which stretched for dozens of meters were being crumpled into hideous shapes and devoured by its vertical mouth. The same thing was happening to its head and tail. It was almost as if it had become a plastic bag that was being unfolded upside down.

Blood, flesh, and crumpled bones fell down from the sky and tainted the sea in a shade of deeper red. Its two sharp protrusions extended out from its back while a tail and horns were being pushed out from its mouth.

It was a total reversal. Tail replaced the skull and the head was growing from the end of its torso. It was a sight that was creepy beyond description.

While everyone was busy with their own tasks, Zyrus had also 'refined' the whole pile of corpses.

'Let's hope it works….'

Zyrus took a deep breath and thought over his plan for the final time. Skills like necromancy and puppetry were severely restricted inside the sanctuary. Before his regression he had thought of this as nothing but hypocritical behavior.

Just think about it. A necromancer who could turn the dead into their undying army would be unmatched in the sanctuary. Crown hunt, Flag march, Throne wars... none of the events could hinder someone who possessed the ability to turn the enemies into their own troops. He was unable to understand why such classes were restricted from committing massacres. Wasn't the goal of the sanctuary to create an army? An empire sturdy enough to stand firm against the tides of war? The means used to achieve that result shouldn't matter to the sanctuary.

The system prioritized efficiency above everything else. Using a time loop to 'farm' experience was allowed, so why were players restricted from massacring all races?

Zyrus's questions were answered after he fought against the aliens such as verdara beetles and glemorax. In the players' eyes, the other races and factions that stood in their way were their enemy. But in the eyes of the sanctuary, there had always been a single enemy– the aliens.

From a grand perspective, him using his Balaur summoner skills and something like ghoul reanimation was harmful to the system. The overall power of the sanctuary was bound to decrease if he killed the other races and turned them into his ghouls and summons.

This wasn't just related to power either. Potential was another factor. Could his summons write new theories on arcana? Could his ghouls use the power of laws and one day join the Streit bastion? The answer was obviously 'No'.

'But it should work since the star marked tyrant is a single entity,'

Zyrus believed that the pile of corpses was already similar to summons. All that'd change was who was controlling them. He knew deep down that by the previous logic, he shouldn't be allowed to permanently kill the field bosses either as it also decreased the sanctuary's strength.

'They'll probably change it in the third ring…'

Since the administrators were taking their sweet time deciding on the measurements, wouldn't it be a pity if he missed out on an opportunity like this? Sanctuary's overall strength had nothing to do with him. He didn't give a damn about the future of others so long as his strength increased from this.

[Rise]

Indistinct figures started to appear from the emerald flames. New existences were being born as traces of the star marked tyrant were erased under Zyrus's influence.

And at the same time, the one whose will was being erased finished its transformation.

["Wrath of Biamie" has caused a mutation in the Star marked Tyrant]

[New status effects have been applied]

[Damage dealt +50%, Damage received + 50%]

What floated upside down above the sea was something entirely else. It had skinny limbs that seemed like they'd be broken with a punch, but they surprisingly carried the weight of its wings that stretched for tens of feet.

The star marked tyrant no longer resembled a manta ray or even a monster for that matter. Be it its skull with sunken skin or its hands that reached all the way to its knees, it was no different from a slightly strange humanoid race.

The only things that made it threatening were a pair of wings that had star shaped markings and its spiraling horns.

*kekekekeke*

With a single flap of its wing, it was already above the dragon of war. The star marked tyrant continued its eerie cackling and pointed its bony finger towards Zyrus.

<Charge for->

"Wait a while," Zyrus interrupted Ria who was about to give orders to attack. Jacob had unintentionally helped him save quite a bit of mana, so now he was able to use his Abyssal Legion to help them out.

"Kyle, you know what to do. Coordinate with them and finish it."

Zyrus didn't spare a second glance at the skill the star marked tyrant was going to use. He trusted his subordinates' strength as he knew how strong they were.

Kyle, Elsid, and Zirnitra stood at the forefront to block the attack. It was hard to guess what skill it was going to use since it was pointing a finger at Zyrus for more than 5 seconds.

*Rooooar*

Zirnitra roared at the skies and made the first move. White halos of light surged through his horns and claws, creating dozens of holy shields in the sky.

[Sanction: Shield of Amaic]

The shields inlaid with black and golden runes covered the entire dragon of war. As expected from someone who was called the guardian of sorcery, his timing was perfect.

[[[Fallen stars]]]

The entire ocean was lit up in an instant. 'Fallen stars' was a variant spell that was similar to the famous Meteor Fall. Hundreds of house-sized spheres fell from the night sky at this moment.

It was known as a variant spell precisely due to this– rather than meteors, it summoned the fragments of fallen stars.

It might not seem that much of a difference, but it was in fact a huge change. Meteors merely carried fiery mana and momentum with their fall whereas these fragments of fallen stars had a hundredfold gravity.

The impact of these spheres was no less than a hill. The holy shields summoned by Zirnitra were like flower petals that were crushed underfoot. Everyone realized that the Shield of Amaic were far from enough to block this attack.

"I'll stop it with the abyssal legion."

Kyle and Elsid nodded while Zyrus's summons threw themselves at the falling spheres. The spheres weren't affected by the least bit from this act, but still, they achieved their goal.

Their death and self-explosions brought a vast amount of abyssal mana into the air. Mana that Zirnitra was able to use.

*kekekekeke*

The star marked tyrant didn't give them a second to spare and immediately started to use its final skill. The third phase of the fight was often the shortest and most dangerous period. Both sides would use their trump cards without hesitation.

Timing was crucial where their every move could decide victory and defeat. Both Elsid and Kyle knew that they had only one chance to deal with the star marked tyrant. It had less than 30% HP and it would take an extra 50% damage from now on.

The players were able to finish it off within seconds. And for that to happen, they had to make sure that the attack of the enemy was focused on them. Zirnitra and the abyssal legion could barely block a single attack, so it went without saying what would happen to the other players.

"After this, we'll deal the final blow," Kyle shared his plan with Elsid and also sent a message to Ria.

He, or rather, 'Anubis' Judgement' was their key to victory.

Weight of The Heart: Make the enemies kneel down for 1-10 seconds based on their sins, and increase damage received by them by 30%-60%, Cooldown: 3 months.
