Chapter 781

After an intense session, Wang Dahai got out of bed and started putting on his clothes.

Seeing his actions, Chen Nuo froze for a moment and instinctively asked, "Where are you going?"

With his back to her, Wang Dahai smirked slightly and replied, "To buy you a midnight snack."

Chen Nuo snorted softly, wrapped the blanket around herself, and didn't say whether she wanted anything to eat.

After being messed with by Wang Dahai, she was indeed a bit hungry.

Once fully dressed, Wang Dahai left straight away.

After stepping out of the house, he thought for a moment and then headed directly to Chen Die's apartment complex.

Arriving at the place, he went straight upstairs.

Knock, knock.

Shortly after, footsteps sounded from inside.

Chen Die opened the door and, seeing Wang Dahai, a trace of surprise flickered in her eyes. But then, as if remembering something, her face turned cold.

"Not going to invite me in to sit down?"

"Hmph."

She turned and walked back inside, and Wang Dahai followed her.

Though anger simmered inside her, she still poured Wang Dahai a glass of water.

Wang Dahai knew she felt upset, but this wasn't something that could be explained.

Taking a sip of water, Wang Dahai was about to speak when Chen Die questioned first, "When did things start between you and her?"

Wang Dahai didn't deny it and said, "I don't remember exactly. Not long after that dinner, she invited me out, and then what shouldn't have happened, happened."

Chen Die bit her lip and demanded, "Why didn't you tell me?"

"You never asked me."

Furious, Chen Die retorted, "Are you saying I need to ask about something like this? If I don't ask, are you planning to keep it hidden forever?"

Wang Dahai sighed and suddenly asked, "What are we right now?"

The question caught Chen Die off guard.

Indeed, what were they right now?

This question had been lingering in her mind, but she had never figured it out.

Now that he posed it out loud, her thoughts scattered wildly, and she didn't know how to respond.

Were they boyfriend and girlfriend?

Or simply using each other?

She looked at Wang Dahai and asked him in return, "What do you think?"

Wang Dahai said, "I have a girlfriend."

Chen Die's eyes flickered briefly, and the brightness in her gaze dimmed instantly.

Though Wang Dahai hadn't answered her directly, the meaning behind his words couldn't be clearer.

Wang Dahai continued, "There's no future for us."

With that, he stood up and prepared to leave.

He had come here today to clear things up with her.

He didn't want to keep dragging Chen Die along any longer.

Moreover, things at the company had already been sorted out.

Wang Dahai felt some guilt toward Chen Die and naturally didn't want to hold her back.

"Stop right there!"

Chen Die called out to him, ran over, and hugged him from behind.

Wang Dahai felt her body tremble slightly, and his back seemed even to get a little wet.

Wang Dahai sighed, grabbing her hands, trying to slowly pry them apart.

But she held on tightly and refused to let go.

"Don't leave," she said, her voice choked with tears.

Wang Dahai hesitated but repeated, "I have a girlfriend."

"I know! Don't say it again!" She didn't want to hear it.

Wang Dahai turned around and looked at the tear-soaked face of Chen Die, feeling a pang of guilt: "Why put yourself through this?"

She had decent income, good looks—finding a suitable partner shouldn't be difficult for her.

Why continue entangling with him when their future was already doomed?

But a woman overwhelmed by emotions wouldn't rationalize things like that.

"Don't go," she pleaded, her voice shaky.

Wang Dahai responded with a faint "Okay," wiped away her tears, and said, "Let's go back to the bedroom."

"Okay."

They walked into the room, and Wang Dahai held her as they lay on the bed. He didn't try anything else—just held her quietly.

After a while, Chen Die suddenly asked, "Why won't you touch me?"

"…" Silent for two seconds, Wang Dahai replied, "Is this really the kind of thing you're thinking about right now?"

"I want to!"

Wang Dahai didn't know what to say, pulling her into his arms and kissing her tenderly.

Over half an hour later, Chen Die curled into his arms and suddenly asked, "Do you like Chen Nuo?"

"No."

"Then why did you…"

"Not liking her is one thing. But when it's served on a platter, there's no reason to refuse."

This answer left Chen Die momentarily speechless.

"Did she tell you she's pregnant?"

"Yeah."

"She's lying to you. Is the child yours?"

"Yeah."

It wasn't difficult to guess these things.

Chen Die asked, "Do you want to know whose child she's carrying?"

"Not interested."

Whoever it was didn't matter; it wasn't related to him anyway.

Wang Dahai's attitude eased the discomfort in Chen Die's heart just a little.

At least he had no feelings for Chen Nuo, only an interest in her physical allure.

"Alright, go to sleep early."

Wang Dahai patted her lightly.

"No."

Chen Die snorted softly, still a little upset.

She climbed over and initiated a kiss with Wang Dahai.

Wang Dahai felt helpless—only he seemed to enjoy such a privilege.

Elsewhere.

In the hotel.

Time passed, minute by minute.

Chen Nuo's stomach was indeed growling with hunger, but Wang Dahai still hadn't returned.

At first, she thought perhaps it was too late and the restaurants were closed, making it hard for him to buy food.

But the time dragged on far too long.

Over an hour had already passed, and he still hadn't come back.

Her stomach growled loudly.

Another hour went by. She reached for her phone, intending to call Wang Dahai.

But then she reconsidered; making the call felt overly proactive, so she held back.

Until nearly midnight, when she could no longer resist, she dialed Wang Dahai.

But the call showed his phone was turned off.

Was his phone really dead?

Then why hadn't he returned?

That night, she went to bed with an empty stomach, falling asleep in a haze.

The next morning.

Wang Dahai got up early, washed up, then left Chen Die's apartment.

He turned on his phone as he walked downstairs, and sure enough, there were several missed calls from Chen Nuo last night.

He chuckled, pretended not to have seen them, and headed straight to pick up Zhou Qian.

After wrapping up his errands, sitting in his office, he finally called Chen Nuo back.

The phone rang a few times before she picked up.

As soon as the call connected, Wang Dahai said, "My phone ran out of battery yesterday. I slept under a bridge all night and only charged it this morning when I got home."

"Are you still at the hotel now?"

Listening to his excuse, Chen Nuo snapped angrily, "That's your reason?"

"It's not a reason…"

"I don't want to hear it!"

She hung up the call.

Wang Dahai smirked; this worked out—it meant he didn't have to make up stories anymore.

Still, he wasn't planning to reveal her lies just yet.

That wouldn't be any fun.

This woman had plenty of scheming, but she hadn't realized he already knew the truth about her situation.

On the other hand, Chen Die clearly wouldn't tell her anything.

After all, Chen Die wasn't privy to the dynamics between him and Chen Nuo.

Zhou Qian, sitting nearby, overheard his phone call and grew curious about who he was talking to.
