Chapter 226 Embrace to Keep Warm
Ding Fan got into Xu Rui's red sports car.
Xu Rui drove the sports car without a word, and in one breath, they left Dancheng, finally stopping atop a wheat field on the outskirts.
Once there, both Xu Rui and Ding Fan got out of the car.
Throughout the ride, even though Ding Fan had not spoken to Xu Rui, he could distinctly feel the gloominess in Xu Rui's expression.
The Xu Rui that Ding Fan had known before was a fearless and decisive playgirl who acted swiftly. This was the first time Ding Fan had seen Xu Rui in such a sullen mood.
After getting out of the car, Xu Rui stylishly took out a slim lady's cigarette. She leaned against the car, and after lighting the cigarette, she took a gentle puff, then exhaled a stream of smoke.
Waves of mint-tinged tobacco scent wafted towards Ding Fan, but he just watched Xu Rui without speaking.
There are many kinds of beauty in women. Qin Manshu's beauty lies in her noble temperament, exuding an aristocratic air in every gesture. Lin Yanxi's beauty is in her reservedness and resilience. Qin Manshu's beauty is in her strong self-confidence...
And Xu Rui had a kind of beauty that no one else possessed, an unrestrained and handsome beauty.
Xu Rui and Ding Fan simply stood quietly by the car, looking at the lush green wheat field.
"Do I look good?" After a while, it was Xu Rui who broke the silence between them.
Ding Fan was taken aback, not expecting Xu Rui to ask that question. But Ding Fan didn't hide anything, nodding his head. "You look good."
Xu Rui's beautiful eyes shimmered, those clear orbs alike to an autumn moon, seemingly imbued with spirituality. But Ding Fan didn't avert his gaze from Xu Rui's eyes either, just looking straight at her.
Neither of them shrank away from each other's gaze, just looking at one another.
"Ding Fan, there's something I need to tell you." Xu Rui stylishly flicked away the cigarette butt from her hand.
"What is it?"
"I'm getting married," Xu Rui said, her expression concealing an even deeper sadness. "The person I'm to marry, you've saved him before. His name is Ye Chenliang."
Ding Fan had some memory of Ye Chenliang, afflicted with a strange illness like Xu Guanjie had been, later cured by himself in Dongcheng.
"You don't like him?" Ding Fan asked.
Xu Rui laughed lightly. "Like? What does 'like' mean?"
What does 'like' mean? At that moment, Ding Fan remembered what Ruoran had told him about the definition of 'like.'
When you're hurt, the person who feels it more in their heart is the one who 'likes' you...
Xu Rui didn't pay attention to Ding Fan being lost in thought, and continued, "Ye Family of Yanjing, one of the Four Great Families of Huaxia, Ye Chenliang says he likes me, and so I must marry him... There's no reasoning."
Having said that, Xu Rui brushed past a bitter smile and then lit another cigarette.
Ding Fan felt sympathy for Xu Rui at that moment, thinking that those who were the most hurt by the arranged marriages within big families might just be these wealthy young heirs.
Boom! A dull thunderclap sounded.
Then, raindrops began to fall, from small to large, and in just a few breaths' time, the world was veiled by the rain.
"Get in the car, it's raining," Ding Fan said as he walked over to Xu Rui.
At this moment, Xu Rui had no intention of getting into the car. Slowly, she stretched out her arms towards the sky, eyes closed, seemingly enjoying the rain's cleansing.
Ding Fan didn't forcibly pull Xu Rui back.
No sorrow is greater than a dead heart! Letting Xu Rui indulge like this, perhaps, could give her some mental relief.
It's unclear how much time passed, but Xu Rui finally took a deep breath, glanced through the rainy curtain at the verdant wheat field, then went to open the car door.
"Let's go," she said.
Thereupon, Xu Rui and Ding Fan got into the car.
Xu Rui's clothes were now soaked through by the rain, clinging tightly to her body, revealing her exquisite figure.
Xu Rui apparently didn't have the intention to dry herself off as she straightforwardly tried to start the car, but to her surprise, no matter what she did, the car wouldn't respond—it was obviously experiencing some trouble.
Xu Rui had driven to the outskirts where there were no households around, not a single person in sight, and with the heavy rain pouring outside, to make matters worse, both Xu Rui and Ding Fan were soaked through by the rain.
Cough...
After sneezing, Xu Rui began to cough.
"Your clothes are soaked through…" Ding Fan kindly reminded her from the side.
But before Ding Fan could finish speaking, Xu Rui had already begun stripping off her clothes.
Ding Fan was startled; Xu Rui sure did live up to her reputation—doing something earth-shattering was just who she was. She actually started undressing right in front of him.
Xu Rui shed her coat and trousers, leaving her alluring body clad only in a bra and a pair of triangle panties. She then directly retrieved a towel from the car and began to unabashedly wipe the rainwater from her skin.
Compared to the space in a normal car, the interior of the sports car was much smaller. At that moment, with a beautiful woman carrying on like this beside him, Ding Fan was full of bewilderment; she was acting as if he wasn't even a man.
"It's just you and me here. Aren't you afraid I might do something to you?" Ding Fan asked.
Xu Rui appeared utterly unconcerned, continuing to wipe down her body as she casually responded, "Anyway, I still owe you one condition. If you take it now, then we will be even!"
Ding Fan was once again speechless.
When Xu Guanjie had fallen ill, Ding Fan had helped out and had negotiated three conditions with Xu Rui. Since Ding Fan hadn't come up with a third condition, he hadn't mentioned it.
However, Xu Rui had misunderstood and thought Ding Fan wanted to sleep with her. Later, she had even booked a room in Dongcheng. Till now, Xu Rui had not forgotten this matter.
Ding Fan turned his head to look out the window, naturally not intending to sleep with Xu Rui.
The atmosphere in the car was too intimate; in the confined space, a beauty in underwear sat beside him, a situation which would easily lead any man astray.
Ding Fan silently circulated his True Qi, repelling the cold qi within his body while drying his clothes.
Achoo!
After an unknown period, Xu Rui sneezed again. Ding Fan turned his head to look at her. At the moment, without any dry clothes, she covered her body only with a towel.
The towel wasn't large enough to provide much warmth for Xu Rui.
Ding Fan took off his coat. His inner clothes were almost dry. He thought of using his body heat to help warm Xu Rui, but after removing his clothes, he realized it was inappropriate to embrace Xu Rui for warmth, considering she was only in her underwear.
It seemed improper.
While Ding Fan was still contemplating, Xu Rui had already snuggled over. She pushed her shaking body against Ding Fan's chest.
Xu Rui buried her head in Ding Fan's chest, so he couldn't see her expression at that moment.
Seeing Xu Rui's disregard for decorum, it would be inappropriate for Ding Fan to hesitate any further. He stretched out his arms and gently embraced her.
Feeling the warmth of Ding Fan's embrace, Xu Rui's body trembled slightly, but after that brief tremor, she settled down.
Ding Fan's hands were on Xu Rui's delicate shoulders, her skin soft and smooth.
Holding such a beauty in his arms, if Ding Fan said he felt nothing, that would be impossible; after all, he was no Liew Xiahui.
Xu Rui's body exuded a sweet, virgin fragrance, like musk. The proximity allowed them to hear each other's breathing, and soon Ding Fan felt a heat in his lower abdomen.
The interior of the sports car was already small, and with Xu Rui wearing only underwear, their mutual warmth was excessively intimate.
Ding Fan, however, dared not let his thoughts run wild. Taking advantage of someone in a vulnerable position was something he would neither do nor condone.
Ding Fan then circulated his True Qi and subtly transferred it into Xu Rui's body, which would dispel the cold qi within her.
Xu Rui lay in Ding Fan's arms, having previously stood in the rain in a fit of pique. But soon after returning to the car, she was shaking uncontrollably from the bone-chilling cold.
That's why she had burrowed into Ding Fan's embrace.
Ding Fan's body had a very pleasant scent, which calmed the previously agitated Xu Rui, soothing her mind. His broad chest often provided a sense of security to women.
Before long, Xu Rui could feel the warmth emanating from Ding Fan. The threads of warmth made her so comfortable that she almost moaned out in bliss.
However, Xu Rui was unaware that Ding Fan had manipulated his True Qi; she simply attributed the warmth to the fact that men typically had higher body temperatures than women.
The pleasant sensation provided some relief to Xu Rui, who had been depressed over her marriage for many days.
The pressure from the Ye Family of Yanjing was something her Xu Family could not withstand. Even with the Qin family's overtures, they would certainly not wage a direct war with the Ye Family because of Xu Rui.
Furthermore, Xu Guanjie was quite in favor of the marriage. In some sense, Xu Rui could be considered climbing the social ladder by marrying into the Ye Family.
Thus, the marriage was almost a done deal, regardless. Remembering this inescapable fact, Xu Rui felt empty inside once again.
Xu Rui slightly lifted her head in Ding Fan's arms, where he was with eyes closed.
From this angle, Ding Fan looked handsome, his strong profile and refined demeanor accompanied by an apparent proud resilience.
Women too experience the awakening of emotions, and since her interactions with Ding Fan, despite their constant fights, Xu Rui always felt different around him.
Xu Rui could sense her tension and the irrepressible racing of her heart whenever she saw Ding Fan.
From television and movies, Xu Rui knew she must have developed feelings for Ding Fan. That's why she felt not only anger but also sorrow after his outbursts toward her.
Xu Rui gently lifted her head, then softly kissed Ding Fan's lips.
Ding Fan, seemingly fast asleep, did not notice Xu Rui's kiss. With a faint smile at the corners of her mouth, Xu Rui quietly watched Ding Fan…
