Chapter 161: Hostage
The female assassin waved at Ding Fan, who was standing aside. "Come here."
Ding Fan walked up to her with evident composure.
His expression was serene, seemingly unaffected by her having killed seven or eight people in one go. However, the female assassin didn't find it surprising, as she couldn't sense any inner strength from Ding Fan's body; to her, this person at best possessed a commendable amount of self-control.
The female assassin then took out a wad of cash and threw it directly at Ding Fan. "Bury these people, and the money is yours."
Ding Fan caught the cash and simply nodded his head.
Disposing of a few bodies was not a big deal for Ding Fan. He immediately dragged them all behind a huge rock and burnt them together.
While Ding Fan was dealing with the bodies, the female assassin just stood there silently watching him.
"Done," Ding Fan said after he had dealt with the bodies and came back to the female assassin.
"This place is deserted, aren't you afraid I will kill you?" she asked indifferently, playing with a dagger in her hand.
"Not afraid."
The female assassin looked up, curious, and glanced at Ding Fan. "Why's that?"
"I haven't offended you, and I have helped you. You have no reason to kill me," Ding Fan explained.
Ding Fan looked perfectly at ease, and indeed, the female assassin felt no sign of fear emanating from him. She couldn't help but admire Ding Fan's courage for a moment.
After all, anyone else having witnessed the killing of seven or eight men would have been scared stiff.
"Want to make some money?" she said abruptly.
"Let's hear it," Ding Fan responded.
"Accompany me to deliver these items to a place. I'll give you a hundred thousand."
"Alright," Ding Fan agreed without any hesitation.
In fact, after helping the female assassin, Ding Fan could have chosen to leave; however, what aroused his curiosity was the briefcase in the female assassin's hands.
His Divine Sense couldn't detect what was inside at all. Ding Fan's Divine Sense was extremely powerful; on Earth, there were not many things he could not perceive, so he became quite curious about the contents within.
"My name is Mei Li, you can call me Sister Mei."
"Just call me Zhou Fan," he replied.
Ding Fan was worried that using his real name might lead Mei Li to recognize him, so he simply invented a name on the spot.
"Later, just stick close by me, act like one of those lackeys in the movies. You don't need to concern yourself with anything else," Sister Mei instructed.
Ding Fan didn't say much in return, just nodding his head from the side.
Without wasting time, the two walked not too far and arrived at a narrow mountain path that was barely wide enough for a jeep to pass through.
Following this secluded path for about fifteen minutes, they arrived at the end of the forest and saw a camouflaged off-road vehicle parked there.
"Don't be scared later. I am here, just stay calm," Sister Mei said to Ding Fan with a bit of concern.
Ding Fan nodded, which served as his answer.
Actually, Sister Mei really didn't need to be so concerned.
Scared?!
In the Cultivation World or on Earth, Ding Fan had never known what the word 'fear' meant.
Sister Mei led Ding Fan to the camouflaged off-road vehicle, where a burly man jumped down from the vehicle.
The burly man sized up Mei Li and then gave Ding Fan a once-over before disdainfully motioning for them to get in the car.
Without a word, Sister Mei got into the vehicle with Ding Fan.
Once they were on board, the off-road vehicle started moving. Besides the burly man, there was also a blond guy wearing sunglasses in the car.
The journey was silent; none of the four in the vehicle spoke a word as they drove to a villa by a lake.
The area was clearly not close to the urban district; no other houses could be seen around.
The car stopped directly in the villa's yard.
Sister Mei gently patted Ding Fan's thigh and whispered, "Stick close to me. Don't be afraid," and then she got out of the vehicle.
Ding Fan promptly took the briefcase that Sister Mei had given him and stepped out from the vehicle.
At this time, as the SUV arrived in the courtyard, seven or eight people escorted a middle-aged man wearing a floral shirt out from inside the villa.
This middle-aged man was rather fat, with a huge beer belly. He appeared to struggle with every step he took.
"Red Spider, Mei Li. We've met before, please come in," the middle-aged man said with a smile, gesturing for Mei Li to enter.
Mei Li didn't say a word and walked straight in, while Ding Fan quietly followed behind her.
The villa was a three-story building with rather ordinary decorations. Judging from the dust on some of the furniture, this villa had not been inhabited for some time. The group made their way to the living room on the first floor and sat down.
After entering the villa, Ding Fan immediately activated his Divine Sense.
To his surprise, there were gunmen hidden on all three floors of the villa. At least thirty people were lying in ambush in such an ordinary villa.
"Tiger, I've brought the goods. Where's the gold?" Once seated in the living room, Mei Li went straight to the point without any small talk.
The middle-aged fat man, called Tiger, leisurely lit a cigar. After taking a puff, he said, "I, Tiger, am never short of money, but before that, I want to see the merchandise."
Mei Li didn't hesitate, signaling Ding Fan with a snap of her fingers.
At this, Ding Fan cooperated and directly opened the case he was carrying.
Upon opening the case, Ding Fan was astonished to discover that it contained a Jade Box. Moreover, looking at the patterns on it, there was even a small Prohibition on it, no wonder his Divine Sense couldn't penetrate it.
At that moment, one of Tiger's men came over to take the Jade Box from Ding Fan's hands. Ding Fan immediately withdrew the box.
Seeing this, Tiger just smiled indifferently. Then he clapped his hands behind him and a person came out carrying a leather suitcase.
The other party opened the suitcase and Ding Fan saw it was filled with gold.
"How about it, Mei Li, can you give me the goods now?" Tiger said from the side.
Mei Li nodded at Ding Fan, who then exchanged the item he held for the gold with one of Tiger's men.
Mei Li was quite satisfied with Ding Fan's performance. In front of a group of fierce-looking people, Ding Fan, a seemingly frail boy, was calm and composed. Mei Li thought that she was in luck to have found such an assistant today.
"I need to take a call first, you guys check the goods in the meantime..."
As Tiger spoke, he actually stood up and took out his phone, apparently planning to answer a call.
Mei Li didn't think much of it.
But at this moment, something Mei Li had never anticipated happened. Ding Fan suddenly sprang into action.
Mei Li barely registered a blur before her, and by the time she could see clearly again, Ding Fan had grabbed a fruit knife from the table and pressed the blade against Tiger's throat.
Shua shua shua...
Just then, several of Tiger's men hurriedly drew their pistols, aiming at Ding Fan and Mei Li.
Simultaneously, the rooms on the first, second, and third floor were almost all thrown open; the thirty-odd gunmen stood by the railings of each floor, pointing their guns at Ding Fan holding Tiger hostage on the first floor and at Mei Li beside him.
Seeing this, Mei Li's complexion turned ugly.
These gunmen surging out were undoubtedly the ambush meant for her.
If Ding Fan had not taken control of Tiger, preventing him from leaving, she would probably have been shot dead by these men already.
However, at this time Mei Li couldn't help but give Ding Fan a couple more glances, puzzled. His sudden aggressive move to hold Tiger hostage—could it be that he had already sensed there was an ambush inside the villa?
"Tiger, you should know the consequence of being an enemy of the Red Spider," Mei Li said at that moment, without time to figure out Ding Fan's actions. What was most important was to deal with Tiger. Mei Li raised her hand, and a Short Blade pressed against Tiger's chest.
Tiger's face had turned white with fear by now. He had heard of the Red Spider assassins' methods, so he had arranged more than thirty gunmen and had especially instructed that at any sign of trouble in the living room, they must all come out.
Tiger had planned to excuse himself to answer a call and leave, but he never expected Ding Fan to strike suddenly.
Tiger now despised his own ambushes for being such idiots, having cluelessly rushed out all at once.
"Mei Li...listen to me, I wouldn't dare to be your enemy even if you killed me. I...I was forced!" Tiger frantically explained.
"Forced?" Mei Li snorted lightly. "Do you think I would believe your lies?"
"I really...I truly didn't..." Tiger trembled all over, by now feeling Mei Li's sharp aura of killing intent.
Chi...
At that moment, a hidden weapon shot through the air straight at Tiger with a whistling sound.
Ding Fan was startled. The gunmen around were hesitant to shoot because they were in control of Tiger. If Tiger were killed now, the thirty-odd gunmen would fire at once, and Ding Fan would only face death.
Ding Fan quickly lifted his right hand and deflected the hidden weapon flying toward Tiger...
