Top-class Bodyguard

Chapter 289: Wait, Are You Really a Thief?

Bai Xiaoyue's pretty face was calm, but inside she was feeling a bit uneasy.

The key issue was that she didn't know what to say. Looking back, she couldn't help but silently regret rushing over here all of a sudden; she should have thought of something first.

Ren Feng saw Bai Xiaoyue's hesitant look and couldn't help but feel curious too. His teasing nature flared up again suddenly as he pointed ahead and said, "Xiaoyue, there's a thief!"

"Where? Where?"

Bai Xiaoyue was taken aback, almost instinctively responding, her body tense, and she quickly glanced towards the distance but saw no thief.

Then, she noticed Ren Feng beside her, looking at her with an amused expression.

"You, you tricked me again." Bai Xiaoyue stomped her foot, her pretty face showing a mix of shame and anger.

Honestly, why does he always joke about this kind of thing?

"Oh Xiaoyue, you can't blame me for this. Who told you to form such a conditioned response?" Ren Feng laughed heartily.

"Alright, Xiaoyue, now that you've gathered your thoughts, you can say what you wanted to." Ren Feng said with a smile.

Bai Xiaoyue shot Ren Feng an angry glance, composed herself, deciding to talk it over properly. Just as she was about to speak, several people approached from not far away.

Leading them was a man with shifty eyes and a few strong men beside him, cigarettes dangling from their lips, who walked straight up to Ren Feng.

"Kid, what did you say just now?" The man with the shifty eyes was angry.

Just when he was about to reach into a girl's bag to snatch her phone, Ren Feng suddenly shouted that there was a thief, scaring him into dropping the phone on the ground.

This caused the girl to realize what was happening, pick up her phone, and quickly leave.

He almost succeeded, but was thwarted by Ren Feng.

The group surrounded Ren Feng with ill intentions, secretly closing in.

Ren Feng felt a burst of inexplicable confusion, then laughed and said, "Hey, brother, you've got the wrong person, right?"

"No mistakes." The man with shifty eyes said coldly, "Do you know how hard our job is? We're all trying to make a living, some things you see, you don't always need to say."

Ren Feng blinked, realizing, and with a surprised face said, "Uh, you guys are thieves?"

"So what if we are?" The others flexed their muscles, their thick arms comparable to bodybuilding champions, full of deterrence.

"No way, you guys are really thieves?" Ren Feng said incredulously.

"Yes, this area is our turf." The man said coldly.

"Oh come on, you must be kidding me, you can't really be thieves, right?" Ren Feng raised his voice, drawing everyone's attention around them.

"You looking for trouble?" The man said fiercely.

"Oh, it's a misunderstanding, my thief brothers, honestly, I've never met such frank thieves as you. I just said it casually, and you guys step forward on your own. It's clear you still have a conscience, you're good people."

Ren Feng grinned and said, "Let me introduce someone to you. This lady here is an excellent police officer, you can call her Mr. Bai, why not have a chat with her."

The group was momentarily stunned, and Bai Xiaoyue also looked at them, her eyes slightly surprised.

But then, out of habit, she said, "You have the right to remain silent, but anything you say..."

"Run!"

Before she could finish, the group scattered and ran away.

Um, Ren Feng and Bai Xiaoyue were left dumbfounded, watching the thieves suddenly run off in different directions, not reacting immediately.

Oh, are these thieves here to be funny?

Bai Xiaoyue was slightly bewildered and was about to give chase when Ren Feng stopped her.

"Come on, don't bother chasing. You didn't even finish your line, and they've already disappeared. Really, you had to recite your lines first?"

Ren Feng said with great amusement.

Bai Xiaoyue's face flushed slightly, "I thought they would put up a fight."

Then, Bai Xiaoyue looked at those people and frowned, "We should still catch them, otherwise they'll target someone else again."

"How to catch them? Forget it, they won't cause much trouble." Ren Feng said with a smile. "We should get on with our main topic."

Hearing this, Bai Xiaoyue started stammering, "I, I..."

"What's wrong with you?" Ren Feng sensed something unusual.

Bai Xiaoyue wasn't usually like this. How did this decisive police officer become so distracted today?

Bai Xiaoyue also felt a bit off. She hadn't organized her thoughts yet, and she couldn't bring herself to speak. In desperation, she said, "I actually asked you out today for something."

"Go ahead, I'm listening."

Ren Feng said with a smile, as he and Bai Xiaoyue walked and talked.

"It's like this, recently we've investigated several gang attacks, which have had a terrible impact. But we're not quite sure about the specifics."

Bai Xiaoyue recounted a case she randomly heard about at a meeting, causing Ren Feng to frown inwardly. Could it be related to the Wind Gang?

Eventually, it's better to let Lone Wolf keep a low profile, develop power quietly, without being so flashy.

Ren Feng touched his nose and said with a wry smile, "Xiaoyue, I might not be able to help you with this."

Bai Xiaoyue felt a mix of emotions, somewhat relieved and yet disappointed, a feeling hard to describe.

She didn't know what was wrong with herself, almost questioning if she went a bit mad.

"Xiaoyue, I think maybe your police force doesn't need to focus too much on gangs. Many things are interrelated. If you get gang cooperation, your police work could actually benefit a lot."

Ren Feng said thoughtfully.

What he said was true. If the police could get help from gangs, activities like drug trafficking could be easily suppressed.

But it is difficult because gangs and police are natural adversaries. However, Ren Feng had some confidence.

Because his Wind Gang was unique, not involved in unethical activities, collecting protection money from other gangs directly.

It required a delicate balance, but if managed well, it would be advantageous for both the Wind Gang and the police, though unfavorable to other gangs.

At this moment, Bai Xiaoyue was lost in her thoughts.

"Xiaoyue, Xiaoyue."

Ren Feng called out twice before Bai Xiaoyue snapped out of it.

"Huh?"

Bai Xiaoyue looked bewildered.

Ren Feng slapped his forehead, Oh my, were you even listening to me?

"Xiaoyue, what's up with you today? You seem off, do you want me to help you with that?" Ren Feng asked with concern.

"Oh, I'm not, I'm just..."

Just when Bai Xiaoyue was thinking of a lie to cover herself, suddenly a loud shout erupted, "Help! Someone fell into the tiger cage!"
