Chapter 315: The Strange Man Encountered in the Cemetery
Aurelia Shaw nodded, and Balthazar Shaw came down from upstairs. Seeing her and Mason Nightshade behind her, he said, "You're back. Don't just come back when there are things to deal with. Visit often as well."
She was surprised to hear these words coming from him.
She glanced at him, opened her mouth, but didn't say anything.
The family had a meal together, and then Mason drove them to the cemetery. The cemetery was on a mountain, and it took half an hour to reach the destination.
Aurelia held a bouquet of white lilies and followed Balthazar to her mother's tombstone. She placed the lilies in front of the stone, her fingers gently caressing the tombstone. Her lightly colored eyes were filled with traces of sadness as her right hand habitually stroked the bracelet on her wrist.
In her heart, she silently said: Mom, did you know that I was so unwilling to die that you let me live again in this life? Don't worry, I'm doing well. No one can harm me anymore, and I can take good care of myself. If... I could be reborn a little sooner, perhaps I could have prevented your death...
A warm large hand grasped the back of her hand, fingers tightening around it, nestling it in his palm. Mason stepped forward and said earnestly, "I apologize for visiting you for the first time in person. I am Aurelia's husband. Rest assured, I will take care of her, won't let anyone bully her, and will ensure she lives happily and joyfully."
In front of her mother's tombstone, Aurelia did not pull her hand away from Mason's. She didn't want her mother to worry about her anymore.
Balthazar burned the paper money he had brought. Aurelia felt a bit suffocated in her chest, so she wandered around alone. On a narrow path, a tall figure approached head-on. Not sure whether it was deliberate or because the path was too narrow, the person bumped into her shoulder.
"Sorry!" said a man's voice filled with apology, "Are you okay?"
The other person reached out his hand towards her.
Aurelia frowned, instinctively stepped back, and looked at the young man's face, which seemed somewhat familiar, probably seen in the upper social circles.
"Are you... Aurelia?" the man said with surprise. "I didn't expect to see you here! I've watched your trailer in 'Dawnsong'. Although it was only a few minutes, you won't believe it, I have already become your fan!"
Aurelia's mouth twitched; she indeed didn't expect to meet a "fan" in such a place.
The man wanted to say more, but Aurelia saw a familiar tall figure out of the corner of her eye. Her eyes lit up, and she smiled apologetically at the man, saying, "Sorry, my husband is here. Let's chat another time." She stepped forward, linking her arm through Mason's.
She found the man familiar but couldn't recall where she'd seen him before. Such an intimate conversation felt eerie. If this person was from the upper circles, he likely knew Mason's identity.
Mason was stunned for a moment when she voluntarily linked her arm with his, but when he looked towards the man, his gaze turned darkly hostile. He squinted slightly, a strong sense of oppression silently spreading out.
The man awkwardly tugged at the corner of his mouth, "I won't disturb you then. I believe if we are meant to meet, we will see each other again."
Aurelia frowned, watching the man's departing figure, feeling that his words... had another meaning.
"Who was he?" Mason asked, noticing the woman's hand had slipped from his arm, leaving an emptiness in his heart, though his expression remained unchanged.
"I don't know him, just someone I ran into by chance. He said he was a fan of mine," she replied coolly.
Mason frowned tightly, "Time to head back."
"Okay."
