Chapter 296: Wife, I Miss You
Mason Nightshade tapped his fingers on the armrest twice. Gustavo Yates immediately sent a copy of the contract to everyone and said, "Two hours ago, Mr. Nightshade invested fifty million in this production, becoming its biggest investor and holding final decision-making power."
Matthew Xenos took the contract, feeling cold sweat streaming down his forehead, wiping and wiping but never getting dry. Sensing a cold glare above his head, he looked up and saw Gustavo Yates looking at him with biting mockery. His legs shook, and he nearly collapsed to the floor.
Trembling, he opened the contract, and his face instantly turned ashen.
Aurelia Shaw asked Gustavo Yates for a copy. He silently mouthed "Sister-in-law" at her, but she acted as if she hadn't seen it, flipping open the contract and focusing on its content.
She never expected Mason Nightshade to really invest fifty million.
For... her?
"Did you get a good look, Mr. Xenos?" Mason Nightshade took the tea someone handed him, sipped twice, then frowned in dissatisfaction, never sparing Matthew Xenos even a glance from start to finish.
"Pff!" Matthew Xenos's legs buckled, and he sank to the floor. Ignoring the stares around him, he crawled on his knees to Mason Nightshade's feet. "Mr. Nightshade, I didn't mean to offend your woman, I was out of my mind, I messed up, please, Mr. Nightshade, spare me, I was wrong, I'm begging you, give me another chance."
"I... someone instigated me to do this. As long as you let this go, I'll tell you who it was."
Mason Nightshade sneered coldly, "Matthew Xenos, has no one ever told you that I hate being threatened the most?"
He straightened up, looking down at the man kneeling at his feet with utter disdain, his eyes void of all warmth and his lips curling coldly—a figure like The Reaper himself. "Q City isn't ruled by Nightshade. There's always risk in business—one day you're rich, the next you're broke. If you want to beg, beg fate, not me."
"Drag him out—don't let him dirty my sight."
Watching as Matthew Xenos, who was commanding them from on high just a second ago, got dragged out in utter humiliation the next moment, the atmosphere in the room plunged below zero, until Sawyer finally said, "It's over," and everyone scattered like they were fleeing.
Aurelia Shaw was just about to leave when Gustavo Yates blocked her path, speaking in a low voice, "Sister-in-law, the boss has already come looking for you several times. Why don't you talk to him before you go?"
Aurelia Shaw shot Gustavo Yates a sidelong glance, making him shiver in the cold.
How could this couple each be scarier than the other?
"Actors have to avoid any conflict of interest with investors. What Matthew Xenos said just now has already made the crew suspicious. Here, in the studio, it's best that I keep some distance from Mr. Nightshade." She knew exactly what Mason Nightshade was up to.
Stay and talk to him? She was worried he'd strip her bare, body and soul.
Just as Aurelia Shaw stepped out with her front foot, a figure rushed in behind her. Before she could react, a long arm wrapped around her waist, lifted her up, and set her onto a chair. That arm braced behind her, trapping her completely in the seat.
Gustavo Yates wisely excused himself.
Aurelia Shaw raised a defiant eyebrow, "Mason Nightshade, we're on set. What the hell are you doing now!"
"Does it matter where we are for me to do what I want?" Mason Nightshade deliberately teased her. Last night, he'd come looking for her, stood in the freezing wind for over an hour, but she hadn't even answered his calls. Today he came to bail her out, and she still wouldn't even spare him a glance.
If he couldn't get a rise out of her, he wouldn't be Mason Nightshade.
But...
He realized that even with the way she treated him, he couldn't get angry at her.
Damn, she really did have him wrapped around her little finger.
