Chapter 305: Offering a Nation to Lord Dio_1
Rumi Yoshizawa was riding high these days. Since her release from prison, it felt as if a great hand in the shadows was propelling her forward, making everything she did remarkably smooth. She'd found a free house in no time and come across a group of like-minded companions.
Some petty and ungrateful people had forgotten the despair of lying in bed awaiting death. They had forgotten who had saved them from such despair and set them running above ground once more. But those ungrateful wretches could be dealt with later, when there was more time.
The pressing matter was to purchase twenty-three guns. In Rumi Yoshizawa's eyes, the numbers recruited by the Dior Salvation Committee had far exceeded expectations, enough to start a movement. She was determined to carry out Lord Dio's will.
"Shinjiro, have you made contact with the person I asked you to?"
"Madam President, it's a bit troublesome; we might have to wait a little longer," Dohashi Shinjiro replied softly, standing beside her like a wealthy man's personal butler. He was the second person to join the Dior Salvation Committee. Due to his good attitude and strong ability, he quickly became the vice-president of the committee, earning Rumi Yoshizawa's trust.
"I'm so eager to offer this country up to Lord Dio. How much longer do we have to wait for that underground dealer?" Rumi Yoshizawa folded her arms and propped her chin on them. It's how it was always shown in the movies.
"I'm not sure; the quantity of twenty-three guns is just too large." A wry smile crossed Dohashi Shinjiro's face. The higher-ups are also arguing, divided into two factions. One faction thought it would be worth letting Rumi Yoshizawa try, to see if it could lure Dio into taking charge. The other faction believed absolutely in not opening this Pandora's box. They did not trust Dio to come forward and rule, believing Rumi Yoshizawa's plans were doomed to fail.
Suppose Rumi Yoshizawa were to use Dio's name to take the Prime Minister hostage. If she even forced the Prime Minister to publicly promise the media he would hand over his position to Dio, it would greatly disrupt the current order. The world never lacked ambitious people. Anyone who could stir up trouble under Dio's banner would do so. Then, many people would form a second Dior Salvation Committee, then a third, a fourth... And then they would all make a run for the ultimate seat of power.
Many things are like this: where there's one, there will be others. The first assault on Capitol Hill shocked the whole world. Everyone watched that unprecedented event. This created an unfortunate consequence. In the years to come, anyone who wanted to do something significant found it seemed insincere if they didn't storm Capitol Hill. They absolutely couldn't open Pandora's box.
The opposition faction preferred to use Rumi Yoshizawa as bait to lure out others interested in Dio and catch them all in one fell swoop. This was rebuffed by the proponents. These two factions weren't at the level of Jack or John; the issue escalated to higher echelons, reaching the CIA Headquarter and even The White House. Only they had the power to turn this joke of a situation into reality, or to utterly deny it.
The former meant Rumi Yoshizawa still had value to them. If it were the latter, Dohashi Shinjiro would have to consider how to escape when the Dior Salvation Committee fell. This was his chance to make a name for himself. Perhaps he could even catch Dio's eye.
"Damn it! Those rats are ruining my plans!" Rumi Yoshizawa slammed her hand on the table. A young man from a nearby chair stood up and said, "Madam President, I don't think guns are necessary. The Prime Minister is just a man in his forties, isn't he? Even with a knife, we could take him hostage."
Dohashi Shinjiro frowned and scolded, "You're utterly naive. The Prime Minister's guards are armed. How could you get close enough with just a knife?"
"I think this proposal is good," Rumi Yoshizawa suddenly stated.
Dohashi Shinjiro quickly changed his expression, saying, "Indeed, it is a most unthinkable yet bold plan, reminiscent of Oda Nobunaga's battle at Okehazama. Only the brave can win on such a narrow path."
Rumi Yoshizawa appreciated his flattering talk and declared loudly, "Ultimately, the Prime Minister doesn't have many guards. If we intercept him when he's leaving work, their guns might kill a few of us, but that doesn't matter. With Lord Dio's power, the souls of the deceased will certainly ascend to Paradise!"
Such outrageous statements didn't elicit disgust from those present. Except for Dohashi Shinjiro, the rest had indeed been healed by Aozawa's powers. Their incurable diseases, which modern medicine couldn't treat, had vanished overnight. In their hazy memories, that towering figure was a deity! Since their deity existed, they believed that fighting for him would naturally grant their souls entry into his Celestial Kingdom. Under this logic, most of those present truly did not fear sacrifice. They believed following Lord Dio meant bliss in death. Helping Lord Dio fulfill his dream of founding a nation while alive was also bliss. With happiness awaiting them either way, they naturally felt fearless and daring.
Aozawa, who had transformed into a breeze, watched this scene. He deeply felt there was an error in the current regional matching mechanism.
The happy education system has done more harm than good.
Twenty-odd people thinking they can take the Prime Minister hostage with just knives?
This woman, Rumi Yoshizawa, using my name for such a ludicrous plan, clearly isn't after money. She's simply of unsound mind.
Aozawa strained his memory. Where had I seen this woman before? I vaguely remember her but can't recall the specific place. And when did I ever say I wanted to establish a country?
So this is what it's like for celebrities to encounter mindless fans. These people, rather than truly believing in Dio, seem more enamored with the idea of themselves worshiping Dio.
Aozawa was curious. If these people were caught, would they be sentenced to life imprisonment or immediately to death?
"Shinjiro, go buy knives. Everyone else, get ready. We're going to stake out the Prime Minister's residence in Chiyoda District."
Rumi Yoshizawa was full of initiative. One thing she had learned in prison was that whatever you do, you must be quick. As long as fate still favored her, she intended to charge through to the very end in one go.
Dohashi Shinjiro was stunned. Did Rumi Yoshizawa really think of a coup as something as trivial as drinking water? But he knew he couldn't go against this woman's wishes.
"Yes."
Dohashi Shinjiro turned and walked down.
「Shinjuku, Central Building.」
Jack sat in an air-conditioned office, swirling a robust square whiskey glass in his hand. His favorite jazz music played from the speakers. After working all morning, he decided to reward himself at noon with the Kobe beef steak he had always wanted but never been able to afford before.
It was rare. As he cut into it, the colors transitioned from the blood-red center to brick-red and pink, then finally to the grayish-brown on the periphery. The silky texture was so enchanting that Jack was utterly captivated. He took a sip of whiskey, then speared another small piece of steak.
The phone on the desk rang.
Jack frowned slightly, paused the music, and answered the call, "Hello, what's the matter?" He wasn't pleased with the interruption to his lunch.
Dohashi Shinjiro was pressed for time. He cared little for Jack's mood and went straight to the point, "Yoshizawa is making a move. She doesn't want to wait for guns; she plans to use a knife to take the Prime Minister hostage."
COUGH, COUGH. Jack coughed, nearly choking on his meat, and exclaimed, "That stupid woman, what is she thinking?" Twenty people taking the Prime Minister hostage with guns was already crazy enough for Jack. But using a knife made him realize that Rumi Yoshizawa must have had her head squashed in a door when she was young.
"She believes she is favored by Dio and wants to accomplish her goal while she still has this chance."
Dohashi Shinjiro understood that no matter how outrageous a person's actions, they always had their own logic that they believed was correct. This was true even for the mentally ill.
Jack opened his mouth. After a moment's thought, he realized that as absurd as Yoshizawa's actions were, they weren't entirely impossible. The current situation was complex, with various forces seeking to locate Dio. It would take time for the higher-ups to discuss and reach concrete results. But Yoshizawa's speed had forced what could have been a slow negotiation onto a tight timeline. The debate would become fierce. Before a decision was reached, I can't afford to let Yoshizawa die.
"That woman won't really just charge into the Prime Minister's residence with a knife, will she?" Jack asked, hoping against hope.
Previously, Dohashi Shinjiro would have given a negative answer. Now, however, even he wasn't sure what crazy things Yoshizawa and her group might do. Their thinking could no longer be understood with normal logic. They were true fanatics, fearless of death. That was the most troublesome part. "I'm not sure. Please report this as quickly as possible. If I'm too slow, it might make Yoshizawa dissatisfied. That woman is really hard to deal with!" Dohashi Shinjiro complained, hung up the phone, and started to purchase the knives Rumi Yoshizawa needed. A fruit knife certainly wouldn't do. He had to buy a longer watermelon knife at the very least.
Jack, hearing the beeping of the disconnected call, hurriedly dialed John on the CIA direct line. "Director, there's a big problem. Rumi Yoshizawa intends to buy knives and then take the Prime Minister hostage. We can't rule out the possibility that she might just charge into the Prime Minister's residence like that." He had laid out his concerns. What the higher-ups decided to do was now out of his hands.
"What did you say?" John was so stunned by the news he almost smashed his glass. He simply couldn't imagine such a bold woman existing in the world. Just how much courage had Dio given her?
"Keep a close eye on this situation. I'll report to the Director immediately. Remember, until a decision is made, don't let her die. It's not easy for us to find someone Dio would remember."
John had the authority to bypass the CIA Director and speak directly to the President, but he rarely chose to do so. Even though he aspired to take the CIA Director's seat, he still had to maintain an appearance of great respect on the surface. Only by concealing his ambition could he have a chance to climb higher.
"Director, there's a big problem..."
