Chapter 300 The Noble Young Miss Never Plays From Behind_1
Lian Lai Amusement Park in Tokyo was an obscure amusement park, but it had all the equipment an amusement park should have. For instance, roller coasters, haunted houses, Ferris wheels, carousels, and so on—Lian Lai Amusement Park had them all.
Aozawa, Phoenix Academy Maggie, and the others had come here.
After purchasing their tickets, they entered the amusement park. It seemed somewhat deserted; it was neither a day off nor the time when adults typically got off work. On a Thursday afternoon, it was naturally rare to see the heartwarming scene of parents bringing their children for a family outing. There weren't many couples either. After all, Lian Lai Amusement Park wasn't well-known.
Just as Phoenix Academy Maggie was about to speak, Yoshikawa Sayuri couldn't wait to disrupt their original plan and shouted, "I want to ride the Ferris wheel!"
"Hey," Nomura True Wave interjected, shaking her head. "I want to ride the carousel."
"You guys just don't get it! The first stop at an amusement park should obviously be the roller coaster!" Phoenix Academy Maggie declared, stating her own preference.
This was something the three of them had already discussed. By expressing a desire for different attractions, they aimed to create a split. They would each head to their preferred rides separately and then meet up at the end, effectively creating opportunities for pairs to be alone together. The excuse for the boys was simple: Phoenix Academy Maggie claimed she was doing it to create an opportunity for Yoshikawa Sayuri and Hojo Tetsuji. Nomura True Wave and Yoshikawa Sayuri, in turn, said they were creating an opportunity for Maggie. And since Phoenix Academy Maggie had colluded with Hojo Tetsuji in advance, he would only think she had said it on purpose, with the goal of facilitating his own date with Little Sayuri. Ultimately, their plan was to ostensibly deceive Aozawa.
Phoenix Academy Maggie went to such lengths because she firmly believed that as long as she didn't confess face-to-face, it didn't count. Without a confession, there naturally couldn't be failure. The noble daughter from a prestigious family never played with a headwind; she only went all-in when the wind was at her back.
"You lot have no discipline at all!" Furusawa Kyoichiro pushed up his glasses, intending to correct their thinking. They weren't elementary school students, yet here they were, arguing about which ride to go on first at an amusement park. As a member of the Disciplinary Committee, he felt it was his duty to step in and resolve their conflict.
"I—"
Before he could finish, Nomura True Wave jabbed her elbow into Furusawa Kyoichiro's stomach, cutting him off.
"Makoto, what are you doing?" Furusawa Kyoichiro turned his head, feeling no pain in his abdomen. Since his last defeat to Aozawa and Hojo Tetsuji, he had been training relentlessly, forging abs of steel that a girl's elbow couldn't easily penetrate.
"Kyoichiro, you're on my side, right?" Nomura True Wave poked Furusawa Kyoichiro's chest with her finger. His abs are so hard! My elbow actually hurts a bit, she complained internally. Despite the slight pain, her demeanor was unwavering, her eyes carrying a hint of a threat, as if to say, Dare to refuse, and you can forget about that limited-edition mini Magical Girl figurine.
Furusawa Kyoichiro pursed his lips.
Aozawa patted his shoulder. "In times like these, it's better not to go against them. I think it's fine for everyone to split up and have fun."
"Aozawa, slow down when you come to school tomorrow! You're always so fast," Furusawa Kyoichiro brought up the old complaint yet again.
Nomura True Wave was already accustomed to his stubborn, opinionated personality that disregarded the occasion. She couldn't be bothered to argue and simply hooked her arm around his neck, dragging him away. "Alright then, let's see whose amusement park trip ends up being the most fun!"
"Hey, Makoto, don't be so rough! I'm not a little kid," Furusawa Kyoichiro complained about Makoto's current hold on him.
None of us are little kids anymore, he thought. Being hooked together like this, some inappropriate contact is inevitable. Although I'm usually only into smaller things, it seems men naturally gravitate towards bigger things in this regard…
Nomura True Wave paused, startled, and glanced down. A faint blush crept onto her face, but she retorted stubbornly, "Kyoichiro, have you graduated from pervert to lecher?"
"Don't slander me!" Furusawa Kyoichiro defended himself loudly. "I just had a normal male reaction to breast contact! It means my body is functioning healthily, not that I have any designs on your chest. I despise big things, including chests!"
"Nonsense! Explanations are just excuses! You lecher!"
Aozawa and the others watched the two walk away, bickering.
Yoshikawa Sayuri couldn't help but comment, "Makoto and Furusawa actually get along quite well."
"It's a classic case of being too involved to see clearly," Phoenix Academy Maggie said with a grin, as if she'd just heard some juicy gossip. I've long suspected there was something different about Makoto and Furusawa Kyoichiro's relationship. Childhood friends are truly special. Makoto's indifference to romance might stem from already having a guy by her side, one she's completely unaware of.
Despite her musings, Phoenix Academy Maggie didn't continue standing there idly. Remembering her purpose at Lian Lai Amusement Park, she smiled. "Makoto is right. Let's see who has the most fun at the amusement park today. Aozawa, let's go."
Phoenix Academy Maggie waved, heading towards the roller coaster.
"I thought you might hook your arm around my neck too," Aozawa said, somewhat envious of the treatment Furusawa Kyoichiro received from his childhood friend.
Phoenix Academy Maggie rolled her eyes at him. "Don't daydream in broad daylight," she said dismissively. I really want to try, she thought, but that would be too obvious.
...
Behind the ticket booth of Lian Lai Amusement Park, two girls hid. They wore loose hats, large sunglasses, and fake mustaches to disguise their faces, completely neglecting how their voluptuous figures gave them away. Any outsider could easily see through such a clumsy disguise, probably assuming they were engaged in some kind of performance art.
Natsuka Yanagimachi, however, didn't think her disguise was lousy. Leaning on Hojo Shouko's back, she pushed up her sunglasses, her expression excited. "Wow, is that the Phoenix Academy's Senior you were talking about? She's gorgeous! And that blonde hair doesn't look dyed at all. With that noble aura, her family must be rich, right? That black-haired senior isn't bad either. It's just that Yoshikawa Senpai looks completely different from how she does in the manga."
Natsuka Yanagimachi grumbled. I thought Tetsuji-senpai's beloved Yoshikawa Senpai would be beautiful, confident, and mature. But looking at her now, she's just like an underdeveloped middle schooler. My figure is even better than hers.
A hint of helplessness flashed in her eyes. Why is it that the people I like are never available for me to pursue? And the ones I don't like are always confessing to me. Sigh, this is the plight of someone with a thing for seniors.
Natsuka Yanagimachi inwardly lamented her youth as she watched the group of six split up, leaving only Yoshikawa Sayuri and Hojo Tetsuji standing in place.
"Haha, Tetsuji-senpai looks so nervous! He doesn't even know where to put his hands."
As she said this, she realized Hojo Shouko, beneath her, hadn't responded, making her feel like she was performing a soliloquy.
"Shouko," she patted Hojo Shouko's shoulder. "Why aren't you saying anything?"
Usually, Hojo Shouko was quiet, but she would typically chime in with a word or two when Natsuka spoke to prevent awkward silences. Now, it was as if Hojo Shouko's spirit had drifted away.
Startled by Natsuka Yanagimachi's pat, Hojo Shouko snapped back to reality. Her gaze shifted from the already somewhat blurry figures of the blonde and black-haired pair in the distance. "That's strange," she whispered. "Just now, seeing Aozawa-senpai and Phoenix Academy's Senior standing together, looking so close, I felt a little… dejected."
"Ooooh," Natsuka Yanagimachi immediately drew out the sound, teasing, "Shouko, you're practically drowning in a river of jealousy, and you still dare say you don't like Aozawa-senpai?"
"Is that so? I'm not really sure," Hojo Shouko muttered. I really don't understand these kinds of feelings. It's just that being with Aozawa-senpai is more relaxing than with other boys. I admire the courage and honesty of those other guys, but I don't like them.
"It must be!" Natsuka Yanagimachi hadn't expected to stumble upon such unexpected gossip, and her excitement grew. She wanted to delve deeper into the topic.
Hojo Shouko glanced away. "Brother and Yoshikawa Senpai are already heading to the Ferris wheel. We should hurry too."
"Wait, let's talk more about Aozawa-senpai."
"There's not much to talk about. I don't feel a strong urge, just a bit of a crush. Does that mean I have to confess?"
Hearing Hojo Shouko speak so seriously, Natsuka Yanagimachi was momentarily stunned. I don't know how to answer that. Confessing just because you have a little crush? Of course not. Besides, Aozawa and Phoenix Academy Maggie seem like they're already dating.
"You have a point," Natsuka Yanagimachi murmured. I'll stop guessing and just ask Aozawa directly if he has a girlfriend. If he does, I'll stop playing wingman. If not, I might as well try. Without a friend like me pushing her, Hojo Shouko, with her passive personality, probably won't say a single honest word about her feelings until graduation.
"You and Tetsuji-senpai are both clumsy when it comes to romance, but you're even worse than him! At least he dares to go for it. You're just a slow turtle plodding along."
"I believe that assessment is incorrect." Hojo Shouko stopped in her tracks and turned her head. "I'm quite confident in my own initiative."
"Argh, you're giving me a headache, being so serious about the weirdest things!" Natsuka Yanagimachi complained, quickly changing the subject. "Never mind that! Look, they're almost at the Ferris wheel!"
"Oh no!" Hojo Shouko hurriedly chased after Hojo Tetsuji.
...
After buying roller coaster tickets, Aozawa and Phoenix Academy Maggie sat side-by-side in the front row.
"Maggie, have you ever been to an amusement park before?"
"No. My knowledge of amusement parks comes from Makoto and the others. I hear this roller coaster is very thrilling."
"Yep. If you get scared later, just grab my hand," Aozawa hinted, seeing a good chance to hold hands.
But in Phoenix Academy Maggie's eyes, his statement clearly belittled her courage. "What are you talking about? Something of this level? I won't even let out a whimper. You just make sure you don't scream in terror."
