Chapter 258 Unsettled Night_1
The definition of late night varies from person to person; some don't even consider one or two o'clock to be late.
For Emily, ten o'clock already qualified as late night.
She stayed outside the Ito Otome Anatomical Room, in the morgue, watching one corpse after another laid out on the table, awaiting autopsy.
Ordinary corpses naturally weren't worthy of a specialized task force conducting an autopsy.
The problem was that the methods of these people's deaths were too unusual.
"Punch Demon was a Thai. His fists and feet were so ferocious they could pulverize a two-meter-high stone. Brutal and overbearing, the Sumitomo Financial Group had hired him for a hefty sum. He committed multiple crimes in Tokyo, all of which were suppressed without any action taken."
Katerina introduced Emily to the people she knew. She stared at the Punch Demon's hands. The hands that could pulverize stone had been roasted into jerky, exuding the charred scent of meat.
That's what happens when a martial artist encounters a Superpower User.
She continued to the next body. "Cannibal Reed, two point three meters tall, hadn't learned any fighting style. He was a savage captured from an uninhabited island by a renowned underground boxing organization. They used thirty men and thirty tranquilizer guns, at the cost of twenty-three lives, to capture him. After learning basic human common sense, he still had a penchant for raw food. And he would eat people. The Mitsui Group spent a lot of money to bring him to Tokyo. When he was killed, he was trying to eat a ten-year-old girl."
Cannibal Reed was frozen into an ice sculpture, his body covered in cold white frost, eyes bulging, mouth wide open, revealing sharp fangs. At this moment, his fierce cheeks somehow radiated the helplessness and horror of a puppy.
Aside from these individuals, there was an alarming number of forty-two corpses present.
Forty of them belonged to the Korean Yakuza Organization, the Seven Star Gang.
Their power in Tokyo was completely annihilated.
The manner of death varied among them.
According to some eyewitness reports, the height and general outline of the killer matched Dio.
Emily wasn't surprised by this result. Instead, it further confirmed her suspicion from the morning. Dio must have failed to ascend to Paradise. That's why he was so furious and killed these people to vent his anger.
"HAHA." Emily let out a laugh. She felt particularly pleased thinking about his frustrated appearance. She also pondered, what kind of ritual would one have to undergo to enable Dio to ascend to Paradise? If I could find the pattern, predicting Dio's actions would become very simple.
Emily sighed quietly to herself and didn't stay in the morgue any longer, instead walking outside.
The corridor was lit, with few people around, but Emily wasn't scared because Katerina was following her.
Alone... I'm still a bit afraid. Heaven knows if an evil spirit might suddenly appear.
At this thought, a chill ran down her forearm. Emily hurriedly quickened her steps.
The two walked into the Okubo Police Department's lobby.
Someone stood up from a chair.
He was 1.8 meters tall, with a slicked-back hairstyle, wearing a black short-sleeved shirt and black casual pants.
The man strode up to them and flashed his badge, saying, "Hello, I'm Hayato Masao from the Public Security General Affairs Division. Could I take a moment of your time?"
Emily stopped, a flash of curiosity crossing her face. "What is it?" she asked.
"Actually, it's about a suspect you brought in for interrogation."
Hayato Masao began to explain, "Takeda Eijiro has always been a major criminal under our surveillance, but he's very cunning and hasn't slipped up. We want to take this opportunity to make sure he can't escape punishment, and we hope you can transfer his case to us."
He stated his request earnestly.
Emily remembered Takeda Eijiro was the key suspect Okayama Buji was interrogating.
No matter what the outcome, she couldn't possibly hand over the case to the Public Security General Affairs Division.
"That's impossible. I don't care if you find another line to pursue, but this case isn't under your jurisdiction, nor should you investigate it."
Hayato Masao furrowed his brows.
He was unclear about what exactly this special task force did, but it was obviously a very significant case.
However, his case was also very important.
Takeda Eijiro had become a dangerous individual and needed to be stopped as soon as possible.
Although his Twitter social media accounts could be banned, his TikTok account had already garnered four hundred sixty-seven followers for Takeda Eijiro.
Even though more than two hundred of them were fake accounts from the Public Security General Affairs Division.
But there were still over two hundred people genuinely listening to Takeda Eijiro's short video content.
It was a dangerous sign.
He needed to deal with Takeda quickly and couldn't use trumped-up charges; there had to be at least some pretext.
Before the severity of the situation reached the level considered significant by those above, the Public Security General Affairs Division needed to abide by the country's laws.
"We won't interfere with your case; we just want to have the right to handle Takeda."
"You want me to be an accomplice in a miscarriage of justice? Dream on!"
Emily waved her hand, her face expressing disgust.
If the Public Security General Affairs Division had more authority, perhaps Emily would have considered looking the other way, as she wasn't particularly insistent on justice.
But their authority wasn't greater than the special task force's, and it was impossible for her to act against her conscience.
Hayato Masao said nothing more, his face darkening as he left.
Emily didn't care and continued on to the interrogation room.
Upon reaching the door, she found Okayama Buji opening it, his face respectful. "Dr. Takeda, please go ahead," he said. "I'm sorry for the interruption of your valuable time."
"It's fine; this is part of your duty as well."
Takeda Eijiro left with a smile; he wasn't the type to be stubborn and unaccommodating, nor would he blindly hate all government officials.
That kind of binary thinking isn't suited to the work I'm doing. He aimed to convey ideas to those who were neutral and wavering, and to enlighten those clearly dissatisfied with society. His real enemies were the financial conglomerates and national traitors.
"HAHA. I'm glad you understand. Let me escort you out," Okayama Buji said. During the interrogation, he had already begun to develop a deep admiration for Dr. Takeda.
He most respected those who adhered to their own convictions.
Unlike himself, who, despite having his own thoughts, was compelled to submit due to various constraints.
Emily watched as he escorted the man out, blinked, and looking up at Katerina, asked, "What the hell is that idiot doing? I asked him to interrogate a suspect, but why is he acting like a hotel owner accommodating a guest?"
Although it was very likely Dio's doing, one couldn't completely rule out the possibility of a new Superpower User emerging, especially Takeda Eijiro. Moreover, the Seven Star Gang, who were suspected of being his adversaries, had been annihilated in Tokyo.
Takeda Eijiro was naturally a key person for Emily to interrogate.
Since it was an interrogation, treating him like a guest was clearly inappropriate.
Emily pursed her lips.
When Okayama Buji returned, she glared and called out, "Hey, when you talked to him, did you get anything?"
Okayama Buji shook his head and said, "No. Before Dr. Takeda left, those people were still alive. He had no idea what happened after that. It's just that when he got to the door, the power to the upscale club suddenly went out. But he didn't go in to see why. I guess Dio must have admired Dr. Takeda's character, and that's why he wiped out the people from the Seven Star Gang."
"What's your basis for that?"
Okayama Buji honestly replied, "There were thirty million US Dollars at the scene. That was the dirty money Jin Yuqiang from the Seven Star Gang intended to bribe Dr. Takeda with. But he held on to his moral bottom line and didn't take the bribe money to write papers against his conscience. Doesn't such a person deserve respect?"
"I see. No wonder those people from the General Affairs Division want to get him," Emily murmured thoughtfully.
If Dio admires Takeda Eijiro, could we discover Dio's whereabouts by monitoring Takeda Eijiro?
She touched her chin and said, "Notify Miyaji to keep an eye on this Dr. Takeda."
Takeda Eijiro hurried to the station.
With his current finances, he could not afford to take a taxi home.
He also didn't choose to take shortcuts, fearing he might accidentally encounter some thugs on the back roads and lose his life.
He preferred to stick to the main roads whenever possible, even if it meant a longer journey.
The back roads were deserted, and Takeda Eijiro truly feared some people might attack him brazenly.
Takeda Eijiro arrived at Shinjuku station.
In the dazzling, decadent night, young people were wantonly squandering their youth.
To him, this was a sign of degradation. Relying on such benumbing methods to immerse themselves in illusion, instead of reading, thinking, improving themselves, or even fighting against social injustice, was, in his view, undoubtedly a waste of youth.
But he also knew. For most people, studying was a painful task; they would rather let darkness blind them than learn.
This was exactly what those predators wished to see.
He sighed inwardly and stepped into the bustling Shinjuku station.
Takeda Eijiro returned to his home in Bunkyo District. He opened the door and pressed the light switch with his right hand.
His family hadn't gone to bed; his wife was holding their daughter, and his parents were crammed together on the sofa.
An uninvited guest sat at the dining table, lounging as if he owned the place.
With blonde hair and blue eyes, his black vest couldn't hide his well-built muscles, complemented by loose-fitting Kung Fu pants.
Despite clearly being a foreigner, he wore a pair of cloth shoes.
"Good evening, Dr. Takeda."
"Who are you?" Takeda Eijiro showed no sign of panic.
With a smile, the blonde man stood up and said, "My name is Onofre Harrison, from London, England. My purpose here is simple: I want you to help heal a patient in a coma. This is the treatment fee I've prepared for you—one point five million Euros."
"Whom will I be treating?" Takeda Eijiro asked.
Onofre, still smiling, said, "An MI6 agent named Mark Zalo."
"Are you with MI6?"
"No, I just want that guy to wake up quickly so I can ask him a few things." Onofre spread his hands and smiled. "Don't worry, this has nothing to do with politics. I just want to find out who hurt him. Don't you think it's exhilarating to fight against someone powerful?"
"I see. I'll do it." Takeda Eijiro didn't hate money. He just despised money that required selling one's conscience and morals.
As for this man and MI6's dog-eat-dog situation, I don't care.
