Chapter 240: Godzilla is no Match for Tritium Girl_1
"ACHOO." Morimoto Chiyoda let out a heavy sneeze. Rubbing her nose, she asked suspiciously, "Who on earth is talking about me behind my back?"
On the sofa opposite her, a woman with long, straight black hair, dressed in a white lab coat, stated bluntly, "If talking behind someone's back made them sneeze, I imagine you wouldn't be able to say a single word. You'd just be sneezing constantly."
"Haha, that's all nonsense. No need to take it so seriously." Okayama Buji chuckled, trying to smooth things over. He didn't want the atmosphere between the two to become too tense and spoil the relaxed mood.
"It's rare for us to get a break. Let's not argue about such tiresome things."
Emily, cradling a cup of milk tea in both hands, took a sip with her head lowered. She wasn't in her usual work attire but a cozy pajama set—a pink bunny suit, complete with a hood and rabbit ears.
The fluffy outfit looked more suited for winter.
Thanks to the air conditioning, Emily could indulge in such comfortable attire even in the summer.
Since they had discovered yesterday that Dio was from a Different World, her speculation that locals following various strange religions might possess superpowers had been completely dismissed.
This meant the special task force no longer needed to interrogate those involved in religious groups, significantly reducing their original workload.
Besides, Dio hadn't committed any crimes worth discussing on Monday.
So, they could all sit around in the living room of Hisamatsu Apartment 201. They drank milk tea, ate snacks, and chatted idly, much like old folks gathered under a large tree in the countryside with nothing much to do.
No specific topic was needed; they spoke about whatever came to mind. If taxpayers were to see such a laid-back scene, they would probably scold them loudly for being "tax thieves."
But in Emily's view, this was also unavoidable.
If she had the choice, she too would prefer to be constantly busy, but the reality was they couldn't find much work to do.
The more they understood and investigated Dio, the clearer it became what kind of situation this world was facing.
The prophesied end of the world, Paradise, the Savior...
Rather than buzzing around aimlessly like headless flies, it was better to sit down calmly and see if their casual conversation could unearth something previously overlooked.
"Speaking of which, Dio usually commits a crime on Mondays, but he made no move yesterday. Could he have sensed the overlap between the Different World and our reality?"
"It's also possible Dio did commit a crime, but our attention was focused on the prison incident, so we didn't notice."
"True. That ability to make people explode could make someone disappear without a trace. It might take days, even half a month, before we receive a related report."
"Thinking about it that way, Dio is like a washed-up celebrity, haha."
Morimoto Chiyoda chuckled softly, picked up her milk tea, and took a sip through the straw. The sweet taste spread across her tongue.
The computer on the desk suddenly PINGED.
Emily's leisurely expression vanished instantly. She stood up and said, "Morimoto, check the email for me. I'm going to change."
The email was from Jack, obviously containing information about Dio.
Not wanting to waste time, Emily went to change into her outdoor clothes.
"Mm."
Morimoto Chiyoda opened the computer and used the CIA app to convert the email, turning the strange characters and words into normal text.
"What's going on?" Emily's voice drifted through the slightly open door.
Morimoto Chiyoda glanced at the screen, her face showing obvious astonishment. "Jack sent a message," she replied. "He says The first nuclear power station suddenly stopped operating. There's not a trace of radiation leaking out, as if a reactor explosion never happened there."
"What?" Emily exclaimed in shock. She quickly changed into a gothic-style dress, hastily tidied her messy blonde hair, and strode out the door.
She was somewhat familiar with the problems at Fukushima.
The Tokyo Electric Power Company, in an effort to cut costs, had skimped on protective measures for the nuclear plant in case of a crisis. This, coupled with the management's inaction after the disaster, caused the situation at the plant to deteriorate.
Now, no one truly understood the situation inside the nuclear plant. The intense radiation rendered the so-called protective suits as useless as wearing nothing.
But for the nuclear plant to suddenly stop operating, with no radiation leaking out...
That was impossible with current human technology. It had to be related to Dio, or the Different World.
Until the truth was determined, any abnormal event would be attributed to Dio.
And it would also be handed over to the special task force.
"Let's go!" Emily declared, full of fighting spirit, and headed for the door.
Emily much preferred chasing after Dio to staying in the room, drinking sweet milk tea, and discussing matters related to him.
The feeling of having a clear objective, one that required her effort and struggle, was truly wonderful to her.
Emily had learned so much, yet her goal remained unchanged. Not even the end of the world could shake her determination to catch Dio.
It had become her obsession.
Emily's eyes shone with resolve. She believed that if she could just get close to Dio, she could definitely use her charms on him and then attack him when his guard was down.
As for whether backstabbing was moral, Emily couldn't care less. Being able to backstab Dio was a testament to her skill; others who might want to didn't even have the capability.
「...」
The grass in the school courtyard was a vibrant green.
Aozawa leaned against the window, his gaze directed outside, seemingly observing the scenery.
In reality, he was trying out new applications for Will-o'-the-wisp, his superpower, which was at its peak strength this week.
This week was the most suitable for developing new ways to use it.
He had used Hypnosis on the world to create monsters that didn't exist in reality. His initial plan was to create Godzilla. He wanted it to absorb the nuclear reactor and nuclear wastewater from the power station, thus preventing the pollution of Earth's oceans.
However, Godzilla was too enormous. Its appearance in Japan would be clearly inappropriate and could easily trigger widespread global panic.
After much thought, he concluded he needed to be more discreet. Reality wasn't the virtual illusion he had created, where he could act with impunity.
Aozawa hoped to maintain stability within the country, rather than see it descend into a chaotic society.
So, he chose to use Hypnosis on the world to manifest a petite young girl from the nuclear reactor. She would be capable of absorbing all the nuclear wastewater and containing the radiation within her body without any leakage.
The Tritium girl had two forms. One was a self-destruct form that released nuclear radiation. The other was a normal girl form, indistinguishable from an ordinary person, yet possessing speed comparable to a fighter jet.
Furthermore, unlike beings from the Different Space, the creatures Aozawa created through worldly Hypnosis-induced illusions were not under his direct control—likely because his true self resided in this world.
He could only implant certain instincts into them.
This was a conclusion drawn from several failures.
The latest Tritium girl was not under Aozawa's control. However, the instinct he had designed for her was to find the management of the Tokyo Electric Power Company and then switch to her self-destruct mode in their presence.
She would take them out along with herself.
This programmed behavior made the Tritium girl fundamentally different from the individuals created through Hypnosis in the Different Space. She was more akin to a self-destructing robot with limited intelligence.
This was a limitation Aozawa faced.
Reality was not the Different Space; he couldn't create beings that completely disregarded his commands and acted arbitrarily.
He had to ensure the monsters he manifested possessed precise targeting capabilities.
The Tritium girl was currently speeding towards Tokyo's Chiyoda District, the location of the Tokyo Electric Power Company headquarters, at an astonishing rate.
Aozawa remained vigilant, guarding against any potential failure of Will-o'-the-wisp. He had to prevent the Tritium girl from dissolving into a large pool of nuclear wastewater on a Tokyo street before she could self-destruct.
If there was any sign of her existence wavering, he would ensure someone else saw the Tritium girl, thereby prolonging her presence.
He kept a close watch on the situation outside.
THUMP. THUMP. The sound of knocking on a desk echoed. Phoenix Academy Maggie had returned and sat down directly in her seat. "Is there some fascinating scenery outside?" she asked curiously.
"Nothing much," Aozawa replied.
Aozawa withdrew his gaze and smiled. "Ah, back from the restroom?"
Phoenix Academy Maggie shot him a glare and didn't respond.
What was a normal human bodily function felt inexplicably shameful when Aozawa mentioned it, as if she had just committed some forbidden, criminal act.
She casually changed the subject. "Four leaders from the six major financial groups have rushed back to Tokyo. Any idea why?"
"To ascend to Paradise?" Aozawa replied casually. Phoenix Academy Maggie hadn't kept the matter of Paradise a secret from him, so there was no need for him to feign ignorance.
Phoenix Academy Maggie shook her head and lowered her voice. "Of course not. They were forced to return. Mitsui Takashi of the Mitsui Group died in his British Estate, along with several maids and butlers who were also shot dead."
"The British police concluded it was a robbery-homicide. Because the estate's valuables were plundered."
"But we know it definitely wasn't a simple robbery. The Mitsui estate had forty security personnel armed with MP5 submachine guns."
"Ordinary robbers wouldn't stand a chance against them. However, none of their bodies were found at the scene. This strongly suggests a major organization was operating in the shadows."
"They wanted to obtain information about Dio."
A look of surprise crossed Aozawa's face. "Shouldn't they be trying to get information about Dio in Japan?"
"People from Europe and America are too conspicuous in Japan. I can assure you, the KGB's influence in England is definitely stronger than it is in Japan."
"Mitsui Takashi probably divulged all his secrets before he died—the Different World, Dio... These things likely can't be kept under wraps for much longer."
A sigh escaped Phoenix Academy Maggie. "Tokyo's future is going to become even more chaotic. A large-scale war might even break out."
"Is that so?"
"Aozawa, don't think I'm just spouting nonsense. American Protestantism has many branches, among them the extreme Evangelicals."
"They're a bunch of utter fanatics. They not only believe in the end of days but are also constantly trying to provoke an Armageddon to make the Bible's prophecies come true."
"They firmly believe they are God's chosen people. With their devout faith, they are certain they'll be saved when the world ends, while everyone else will be destroyed."
"The U.S. military used to keep its distance from those fanatics, but now, some within it are starting to waver."
"That does sound dangerous," Aozawa responded casually.
The Tritium girl had already reached the entrance of the Tokyo Electric Power Company.
