Tokyo: My Superpower Refreshes Every Week

Chapter 207 Iroha Decides to Take a Risk_1

"Minister Jack, there's new information."

The knock on the door made Jack pause as he was about to pour a drink.

John had agreed to his plan, and Robert was dead. It was a double celebration, and he had wanted to enjoy a small drink to celebrate his bright future. He hadn't expected work to come so soon.

He placed the whiskey back into the drawer and called out, "Come in. What is it?"

A suited agent entered the office and said gravely, "Minister Jack, according to intelligence captured by our think tank, Dio appeared around 7:40 PM in a stall in the ground floor restroom of the Marui Department Store's supermarket. He killed a man who was assaulting a woman there and then left."

Jack mused, "Was the information from the woman?"

"No, it originated from a girl named Tama Chan, who told her friends about it in a LINE chat room. The members of that chat room include a girl named Takahashi Saeko; she's a Street Cleaner for the Hundred Herb Bookstore. Another is Miyahara Kaoru, from Miyahara Farm—the largest farm in Hokkaido. And there's one named Ayatsuki Ayaka, an ordinary high school student and part-time short video blogger with 333 subscribers on YouTube. This is a detailed record of their discussion."

Jack took the printed chat log and read it carefully.

The agent standing before the desk asked, "Do we need to bring them in for questioning?"

"No need. The chat log is very clear. Bringing them in won't yield any more detailed intelligence."

Jack didn't want to involve too many people in this matter. Their current actions were being observed by various factions. Once the CIA started looking for someone, it would prompt other forces to act like sharks that smell blood. If it was possible to avoid action, he would. That was Jack's current modus operandi.

"You don't need to worry about this. Continue monitoring online information," Jack said, waving his hand to dismiss his subordinate from the office.

He was alone again. He opened the drawer, took out a square glass and the whiskey, poured himself a drink, and then dialed Special Case Group Emily's number.

After two beeps, the call connected.

Jack said, "Check out the women's restroom on the first floor of Shibuya's Marui Department Store."

He didn't mention Dio's name throughout the conversation, nor was there a need to; it was best to avoid leaving any actionable intelligence. That was their mutual understanding.

Jack was clear about his own abilities. He wouldn't try to show off by arranging the investigation himself; he was more keen on letting intelligent people handle difficult matters. All he needed to do was sit here and reap the results. That was the biggest difference between him and Robert. Intelligent people always enjoyed the thrill of seeking the truth for themselves. Mediocre men like him preferred to sit back and enjoy the fruits of others' labor. The process didn't matter; the outcome was crucial.

"Okay, I'll inform you if there's any news," Emily agreed immediately and hung up. She grabbed her communicator and said, "Okayama, you and the SAT members head to Shibuya. Iwaki, our target is active in Shibuya tonight; keep a close eye on that area."

"Wasn't Dio always in Shinjuku? Why did he suddenly appear in Shibuya?" Katerina looked confused.

Emily smiled wryly. "Don't forget his abilities; it's normal for Dio to appear wherever he wants. We probably won't be able to meet him tonight." She let out a light sigh. To think I dressed up so nicely, even choosing a perfume according to Morimoto Chiyoda's suggestion. And now he's gone off to Shibuya. My last-minute change in plans is bound to be imperfect; capturing Dio's location is nearly impossible. Damn it, superpower users really are cheaters! Emily fumed internally.

「...」

RUMBLE.

The sound of propellers was loud. Military helicopters circled over Shibuya, their external lights blinking.

Aozawa appeared in the cockpit of the aircraft. He looked at the fully armed SAT members, covered from head to toe, not a patch of skin exposed. He could see what looked like a submachine gun slung around a neck; on their waists, were those flashbangs, tear gas, or grenades? He wasn't a military enthusiast, so he couldn't differentiate what was hanging on their waists. But he was surprised to see them here.

Marked Detonation couldn't possibly leave any clues behind. Did someone from the restroom call the police? If that was the case, I had to commend that person's courage. Not everyone could muster the bravery to call the police after such an incident, especially when I had already dealt with the perpetrator.

Aozawa let the thought pass through his mind and quickly discarded it, not caring about such trivialities.

It's time for me to head back. Before leaving, should I scare them a bit?

After considering it, Aozawa chose not to frighten these people. He decided to let them continue flying around in the sky, enjoying the breeze.

With a thought, Aozawa returned to the small park in Adachi District, checking that no one was around. His body transitioned from ethereal to tangible. He bent down to pick up the hidden phone, swiped his index finger to unlock it, and saw that his messages had shot up to 99+.

Why are there so many messages? A flicker of confusion went through Aozawa's mind as he opened them to check.

The 99+ messages were all from Ayatsuki Ayaka. The remaining messages were from Hojo Tetsuji, Shouko, Phoenix Academy Maggie, Arakawa Reina, and others.

He first responded to the messages from Hojo and the others, then opened the chat interface with Ayatsuki Ayaka.

"A hundred smiley faces, wishing you a good night's rest."

Is this a new ritual popular among high school students? Aozawa complained internally. But seeing how earnestly the other party had sent the messages, he felt it wouldn't be right not to read them all.

Aozawa scrolled directly to the top, wanting to read from start to finish. Once at the top, he noticed a long message above all the smiley faces.

Was Tama Chan present at Marui Department Store at that time? I can't recall. He decided to give up thinking about it. Because I don't remember what Tama Chan looked like at all, there's no use in thinking.

His finger continued to slide down, all the way to the end.

"Iroha, I believe you. If only we could have that kind of power."

Aozawa typed out the message, tapped send, and hurried off toward Ayase Apartment. He didn't want to miss curfew and then get punished by Morimoto Chiyoda.

「...」

In the Akizuki Residence, the lights in Iroha's bedroom were bright.

Ayatsuki Iroha wasn't curled up in bed; instead, she stood in front of her wardrobe, enthusiastically taking pictures of her outfits to send to Maru and the others for reference. She was deciding what outfit to feature in tomorrow's short video. She had already uploaded today's short video. Having over three hundred subscribers made a difference; there were more than a dozen comments in the comment section.

While she was studying the comments, her phone chimed. DING-DONG. A notification.

Ayatsuki Iroha put down the T-shirt in her hand, picked up the phone, and saw it was a message from Aozawa.

"Iroha, I believe you."

The simple words captured all of Ayatsuki Iroha's attention. They contained an incredible, magical power that instantly warmed her heart, like lying in a sunny spot on a winter afternoon. Ayatsuki Iroha felt her heart was about to melt. At that moment, she realized her feelings for Aozawa were deeper than she had thought, just as she believed in Maru. Aozawa also had that kind of trust in her, to believe what she said without any evidence.

Ayatsuki Iroha took a deep breath, tears welling in her eyes, and she quickly typed a reply: "Aozawa, I'm so glad you can believe such a thing. The moment I heard Maru say that, I wanted to share the good news with you."

After tapping send, Ayatsuki Iroha's cheeks flushed, and her hands slowly clenched. I've decided. I'll confess to Aozawa tomorrow. With such a strong emotional foundation, it indicates that my position in Aozawa's heart is clear. It's time to reveal my hand. In my heart, it doesn't matter who confesses first. I don't care if Aozawa has the upper hand over me for life, as long as we can be together.

Thinking this, Ayatsuki Iroha ran to the door again, pounding energetically on her sister's room and shouting, "Sis, remember to make the vegetable juice extra tasty tomorrow!"

"Hehe, I still prefer your original rebellious look. Who was it that said they didn't care for my vegetable juice?" Ayaka's tone held a hint of teasing, her mood exceptionally pleasant.

"Sis, I love your vegetable juice the most now!" Ayatsuki Iroha didn't care about her own pride; she only wanted her sister to give it her all, to support her confession with the best vegetable juice. If I succeed, that bottle of orange juice will be for us to share.

Ayatsuki Iroha ran back to her bedroom and checked her phone. Seeing that her message was still unread, she entered the Hot Girl chat room. After hesitating for a moment, she chose not to tell Saeko and the others that she was planning to confess. I'll tell them after it's over. Then, I can boast that Aozawa confessed to me first. After all, Aozawa wouldn't tell Saeko and the others who actually confessed. It wouldn't hurt for me to brag a bit.

DING-DONG. A message arrived. Ayatsuki Iroha quickly opened it.

"Sorry, I was a bit busy with something and didn't respond to you right away."

"It's okay. Sometimes I get so busy I forget to reply to Maru and the others too," Ayatsuki Iroha typed, then asked, "Are you going to sleep?"

"Mhm, I'm already at my doorstep. Going to take a shower and then head to bed."

"Then we shouldn't chat anymore. I have something I want to tell you tomorrow."

After sending this message, Ayatsuki Iroha's lips curved into a smile. I'm so looking forward to Aozawa's reaction to my confession tomorrow! Will he be eager to hug me, or will he kiss me right away? Oh, the anticipation!

Ayatsuki Iroha was so excited she rolled around in bed, then hugged her pillow, imagining it was Aozawa. Her face gradually drew closer.

DING-DONG! The sound of an incoming message shattered her fantasy, making her stop just inches from the pillow. She turned over and picked up the phone.

"Is there something you can't tell me over the phone?"

"It has to be said face to face. You'll know tomorrow."

Aozawa stood at his doorstep, reading Ayatsuki Iroha's words. His expression turned grave. It has to be said face to face... Could it be... she wants to confess? This is bad. If she confesses now, will she be able to accept Chitose? With this on his mind, Aozawa began to consider how he should respond.
