Tokyo: From Lawless Madpolice to Minister

Chapter 676: Tasting the Sweet Rewards of Treason

"What's the matter?" Xiu Xin asked curiously.

James replied, "Captain Smith is the adopted son of Army Major General Lawrence. Smith's father sacrificed himself to save Major General Lawrence during a mission, and Smith was raised by him."

Xiu Xin's heart sank. In that case, Lawrence would do everything possible to protect Smith.

If they don't cooperate, he can't just barge into the US military base to arrest someone; even the fiercest wouldn't play it that way.

But if he can't capture Smith, how will he explain to the angry citizens once the news airs?

"Alright, understood, let's leave it at that for now." After hanging up the phone, Xiu Xin pondered for a moment and then went directly to Annie's residence; he needed her help with this matter.

Annie, who was at home resting, was quite surprised to see Xiu Xin, "Why are you here at this time?"

"I encountered some trouble." Xiu Xin walked over, sat beside her, picked up a glass of water from the coffee table, and drank it straight down. He then recounted the rape case and said, "The citizens have incredibly high expectations of me based on never letting them down. If I fail to arrest these two individuals, the greater the expectations, the greater the disappointment; the hard-earned reputation I've built will crack, and my public support will decline."

"This won't be good for my career progression, and if my development gets restricted, it's not beneficial for the interests of the United States. You've invested so much time and resources into me, you wouldn't want to see me fail, would you?"

Xiu Xin doesn't have enough influence; only higher-level power can pressure Lawrence into cooperating and handing Smith over for trial.

"Those bastards," Annie, as a woman, cursed through clenched teeth, then took a deep breath and said, "Sit tight, I'll make a phone call."

Xiu Xin nodded, "Thank you for doing this."

Annie didn't respond, got up, and went upstairs to her study to make a call to the CIA headquarters via satellite phone. She relayed Xiu Xin's request and added her own perspective, "Sir, considering the long-term interests of the United States, we should assist him. If he manages to arrest those two Army degenerates, his prestige among Japanese civilians will only increase further, and it's his first time asking a favor from us."

"Yes, sir, Xiu Xin is the most promising, kindest Japanese young official toward the United States, who stands eligible for the position of Prime Minister. Once in power, the relationship between Japan and the United States will enter an unprecedentedly close state."

She was pregnant with Xiu Xin's child, and if the American side decided to withdraw their support for Xiu Xin, she would suffer the most loss.

Thus, she exaggerated Xiu Xin's influence in Japanese society and the benefits his rise to power would bring to the United States, urging the domestic side to invest more in him.

After half an hour, she finally came downstairs.

"How did it go?" Xiu Xin stood up and asked.

Annie curled the corners of her mouth, "The higher-ups will communicate with General Lawrence and get back to you shortly."

Upon hearing this, Xiu Xin knew the matter was mostly settled and heaved a genuine sigh of relief.

"Thank you, now I understand the perks of selling out one's country." He shrugged and chuckled.

If not for his long-standing collusion with the United States, this incident would have cornered him.

Annie agreed without reservation, "Don't mention it, I just conveyed your request as it was, the arrangements are up to the higher-ups."

"That won't do; I always repay kindness generously." Xiu Xin gently embraced her, his hand moving up from her rounded belly to her well-rounded conscience. "I want to thank you properly."

Annie, with blonde hair, blue eyes, and pale skin, appeared more charming with her pregnancy.

"Damn, let go of me, aren't you afraid of hurting your child?" Annie, blushing furiously, struggled in embarrassment and anger.

She was genuinely afraid of hurting the child inside her.

Xiu Xin was already kissing her slender neck, murmuring indistinctly, "Let me in to see my child; I miss him."

A father wanting to see his child, how could the mother resist? Annie half-heartedly complied.

However, to avoid hurting the child, she only agreed to be half-hearted, to stop at the point, not to pursue everything deeply.

Xiu Xin agreed wholeheartedly, but once the battle was heated, all those concerns were forgotten, cursing internally.

"Ring ring! Ring ring!"

At that moment, the phone rang.

"It's yours," Annie said, her eyes hazy.

Xiu Xin multitasked, answering the phone.

"Xiu Xin, I know about the incident at the Police Headquarters entrance, what are your thoughts?" Yanchuan Shilang asked.

Xiu Xin quickly gestured for Annie to remain silent, then said, "Thank you for your concern, Grandpa. I have no choice, once the evidence is undeniable, they must be arrested. Otherwise, the citizens' backlash alone will overwhelm me. Anyway, I have no grand ambitions in this life. Being satisfied with becoming a member of the National Assembly under your wing doesn't mind offending the American side."

Seeing him playing it straight, Annie mischievously wiggled her full, rounded hips.

Xiu Xin gasped involuntarily.

"Ah, the burdens of reputation," Yanchuan Shilang sighed, then added, "I'll try my best to speak for you to the American side, rest assured. As long as I'm around, no one will touch you."

In fact, he hoped Xiu Xin would shoulder this matter, because if Xiu Xin didn't, he'd have to stand up as Prime Minister and face the dilemma between the citizens and the American side.

And if Xiu Xin took on this issue, only he'll offend the American side. Meanwhile, he could step out and make some noble-sounding statements to win the citizens' favor, sharing in the good reputation the matter would bring.

"Thank you, Grandpa, so I mustn't let you face trouble with this; leave it to me." Xiu Xin knew that if he didn't tackle this affair, the Cabinet would have to. Whilst he's tackling it, he mustn't do it in vain; making his godfather understand it's for him too!

Yanchuan Shilang was deeply moved, sighed, and said, "It's a grievance for Xiu Xin."

"It's not grievances; relieving Grandpa's burdens is my duty." Xiu Xin said touching words.

After he hung up, Annie turned to mock him, "Even deceiving old men, utterly shameless."

"To get where I am today, apart from relying on my ability, it's all about deceiving women and old men." Xiu Xin laughed heartily, not ashamed but proud.

"Ring ring! Ring ring!"

Right then, his phone rang again.

"Mosi, Mosi."

"Is this Director Aoyama? I am US Army Major General Lawrence; are you available to meet?"

Xiu Xin was startled, "Of course, it would be my honor. When and where?"

"Tonight, how about you choose the place?"

"Certainly, tonight I'll host the General."
