Chapter 15: Reconnaissance
After a whole two years of training to build a new core, I saw some results and not from the amount of energy built but from the control that I am attaining of my energy ball.
At night I would lie in my bed placing it underneath the window.
I sit cross-legged and breathe in and out allowing my ball to do the same, but I had to do it in opposing motions while concentrating on condensing a new ball of energy within the center of the original ball.
I found that compared to my previous rock life the substance that radiates this energy is extremely dense in this ecosystem.
I don't know if it is the same across the planet I honestly don't know if this is a planet, the laws of physics as I know them are out the window.
Sending out a thin strand of energy I was able to instantly tell that the earth was rich in energy.
I withdraw my energy after my experimenting not wanting any attention. I could tell a lot by the energy I was able to siphon from that patch of dirt.
It was just like in the mountain of my rock life, very rich in energy.
I wish I had a chance to see what was behind that miasma, but my curiosity did not outweigh my survival, and being stuck in one place limited my range of motion.
By practicing splitting my attention I was able to generate a smaller condensed ball of energy that was siphoning energy from my outer greater ball it wasn't visible, but I could clearly sense it.
The rate at which my inner ball of energy condensed the outside energy was terribly slow but my control over it was amazing not letting any energy leak out.
I could even condense in my sleep, but I didn't, not wanting any accidents if any energy was released while I was condensing it would damage my body.
When I was done, I would release the outer energy and keep the condensed ball.
Doing this over and over I was able to solidify a more condensed energy core. It looked like a small sun with a milky white center and a clear haze swirling around it.
As I breathed in my inner core would contract, while my outer core expanded trapping as much energy as it could.
While I breathe out my inner core expands and my outer core contracts purifying the energy before the cycle starts again.
I was strengthening my inner core to its utmost when suddenly, I hear a flicker I open my eyes to see that my ball of haze is having trouble contracting it was up against the pressure from my inner ball.
I could feel the difference in both like never.
I was getting intense pushback from my inner core, it has not solidified visually but I am able to perceive it.
After battling with the ball for over an hour I finally push through and as I do, I feel a sense of relief like I emptied my bowels and drank cold water at the same time.
All the energy accumulated from the outer ball immediately rushed into the inner ball creating a luminous pearl standing out in the middle of the night glowing like a street lamp.
The white light was enchanting, but I quickly placed it inside my body and hid it underneath my covers. I must assume that I have been caught.
That was way too flashy on a dark night.
Looking inwardly at my new core I was elated at the feeling of energy surging wave after wave crashing into my body.
I didn't feel the backlash either, when there was too much energy, I redirected the rest back to my core which felt like it had ample room.
This energy was purely mine I could feel the connection with it like nothing I have felt before in my past life and it didn't overload me.
I couldn't bring it out again, for risk of being caught.
I immediately started breathing to feed it energy inside my body giving my new core its fill. When I felt it stabilize, I stopped but oddly enough it didn't stop siphoning energy.
I kept feeding it wanting to know the limits of this new core when suddenly, my outer core starts to expand, it is a hazy field growing larger.
Waking up the next day I found that no one was talking about a mysterious light that popped up for almost seven whole seconds, but I couldn't be sure.
I needed a safe plan to practice my energy manipulation, It was time to make an exit plan.
I could reinforce my body with energy to make up for my three-year-old frame so living in the wild isn't an issue, but I would rather play it safe.
I knew that if I messed up and died now it would be an exceedingly long time before I could get another opportunity like this.
This was my only life to explore death… as morbid as this sounds, I am extremely grateful for this foul institution that created me.
The next day I started exploring. As soon as we arrived at the work area, I dashed along one of the trails the children made with Isla behind me telling me not to run too far.
"Forget about that runt we need to get the rest of the mana grass we didn't move yesterday."
Kirle was already in a bad mood but as far as he or anyone else was concerned I had a hard time understanding and needed to be told multiple times.
I do this so that I can protect myself, when you are weak and unassuming even plain old stupid people will actively try to ignore you so that they don't have to give the obligatory pity.
No one paid attention as I ran away. Following the path for a little under a mile I hear the rushing of a stream. Going over to check it out I see a group of children from a distance.
It seems we are not the only settlement of children, which begs the question where do the rest go?
At this point, I did not care I would be extremely far away before I am ever close to the age of getting on that wagon.
I observed these children for a time and then went upstream walking only half a mile I see other children lounging around in rags just like mine.
I look across the stream to where there is more red grass, which I found out was called mana grass, uncut and growing straight up past seven feet.
I wanted to leave but that area is a no-go, I don't want to get into fights with any unknown predators.
I decide to turn back and come again later hopefully the coast would be clear and I could continue with my recon.
