To Sleep In The Sea Of Time

Chapter 11: Husky

I am six months old and am able to roll over and pick my head up, getting a better view of the things around me.

I am astounded at first, by how many more babies I see.

It is a total of thirty-one babies some older, many younger.

I could not tell if there were more, my vision is cut off after the last row of cribs.

The door is sturdy but medieval, the bolts and hinges being too bulky to be manufactured industrially.

The walls are painted red, and white, while the ceiling is all white.

Light comes from the ten windows lined two feet apart, giving plenty of light when it was daytime, and allowing me to star gaze at night.

At this point, I could stay awake a whole day without getting tired.

A break in the repetition came, and I was picked up and taken through the door by a husky older woman, with as little appeal as she had gentleness.

I was scooped up by her with one arm along with another baby, and marched out of the room.

Along the hallway, I saw more women with one thing in common.

They all wore dresses and they all had dark skin.

With plenty of rooms in between the hallway, it looked like an early-thirties hotel hallway lined with all sizes of women.

Some cooed at us and others ignored us while I see a few younger girls running away from the Siberian husky-looking women.

She took us down a flight of stairs at the end of the hall, and was met with a ballroom packed with women and men.

Some of the men wore slacks and others are in leather, and some with older styled tunics.

All being attended to by these women.

There was a mix but the majority of them are fair-skinned and looked Caucasian, with a really harsh tan.

I might have been born at night but not last night, this is a classic look of a small-town strip club.

I spotted a stage in the far corner of the room.

As I glance over I notice the other baby stuffing a fist into his or her mouth to be immediately met with heavy drooling.

Seems like someone is teething.

Teething was a heinous and annoying pain but nothing I couldn't brush aside, although I do feel bad for the poor little guy or girl.

We are brought into another hallway and then an office where the woman met with a skinny dark skinned man, who she gave some sour words to.

His response is to give her some gruff commands and go back to sitting in his chair drinking something out of a tin mug.

I was brought out, and taken down another flight of stairs, and brought outside for the first time.

The sky is blue, and the night sky is black filled with stars.

Those are the two constants I know, along with the fact that clouds are sometimes present in this world.

The husky woman shifts me, and I got a good look at her.

She had black skin smelling of olive oil and mustard.

Her dress is an annoying purple with little silver straps, I was getting upset with her handling of me.

She takes me away, and as I was looking at the big house getting smaller and smaller, I craned my neck to look to my right.

I see a street with another two buildings just as big, lined next to each other, and to the left another building almost twice as big.

There were other taller buildings that shadowed it but we were walking away from them, it looks like I am being taken out of the community.

She trekked along a rural area but the road is still pavement, I can tell that it was formed artificially but I couldn't tell the actual material.

She hurriedly walked along the brown road, but she wasn't kicking up any dirt, I brushed it off.

Not the weirdest thing I have seen.

The women stopped at a cul-de-sac at the end of a two-mile road.

Four houses are to the right, and five more to the left making a semi-circle.

These houses are quite small in comparison to the large ones we walked past.

It looks like it was three bedrooms at least.

From my point of view, all the houses are the same.

They are made with the same brown-colored material as the road.

I can see hammocks, and tools lying around.

There is a gap between the houses, where I see fields of red grass.

I physically shudder.

I recognize that grass.

It is the same stuff that the lion jumped out of in my first cycle.

It seems as if it is being trimmed as the parts where it was cut extend about forty yards into the fields.

The husky reaches the door of the house in the middle and walks in without knocking.

She hollers and some children come out.

Two boys and two girls.

It looks like the girl is the oldest, followed by the two boys and another little girl.

I can't tell the ages, but they are all extremely dirty.

The woman comes up to the oldest girl and hands me to her, barking a couple of more orders before walking out along with the other baby.

I look up and see the eldest girl's features up close.

She was quite pretty, with light brown eyes and dark hair, and thin lips.

She will be a beauty when she gets older.

I hear the two boys start talking as soon as the husky leaves the house.

After a few exchanges, and not even bothering to talk to the girls, they turn around and go into their own room situated to the left.

We stand in what I assume is a kitchen with a few cupboards made of stone and tree bark.

It is elevated above the ground, and a door is to the right, that leads to another room on the opposite side.

Two bedrooms in total with the back leading out to the red grass.

I am taken to the kitchen, and the older girl looks at me with some disgust before taking out a sack and pouring its contents into a bowl.

She then grabs a loaf of bread from the stone pantry and dips a piece in, attempting to feed me.

I happily comply.

She looks surprised by how I am devouring it.

Although it is sour and tastes like it had gone bad, I wasn't getting anything else to eat, social care seems pretty much nonexistent.

I can't imagine a social worker coming in here telling her to feed me, and by the look she initially gave me it seems like I am pretty much expendable.

I decide to play the ball early on, hopefully, avoiding any tense situations that might lead to my murder.

At least not before I could control my bladder.
