TO HEAVEN WITH YOU

Chapter 16: THE BREAKING POINT

Mia’s attitude towards hanging out with other guys didn’t change. If anything, it seemed to get worse from Max’s perspective. He often saw her laughing and joking with different guys, and each encounter gnawed at him more. His insecurity grew into a quiet rage, and he decided he couldn’t continue this way. He started avoiding Mia, withdrawing himself completely.

Mia noticed the sudden change in Max’s behavior. His warm smiles turned into cold stares, and his playful banter became terse and distant. She was confused and hurt, but she didn't want to let things fester. Determined to address the situation, she decided to meet him at the studio.

She arrived at the studio one afternoon and found Max practicing some dance steps. His shirt was off, and sweat glistened on his skin. He was deeply focused, lost in the rhythm of the music. Mia called out to him as she approached, trying to maintain her usual light-hearted demeanor. "Hey, Max!"

Max stopped mid-step and looked up, his expression unreadable. Mia walked closer, reaching out to touch his bare chest in a romantic gesture. "I miss you," she said softly.

Max flared up, his eyes blazing with anger. "Don’t touch me, Mia!" he shouted, his voice echoing through the studio.

Mia recoiled, shocked by his sudden outburst. Tears welled up in her eyes as she backed away. "Max, what’s wrong with you? Why are you acting like this?"

Max's chest heaved with heavy breaths as he struggled to contain his rage. "You don’t get it, do you? I can’t stand watching you flirt with every guy in this studio. It’s like you don’t even care about how I feel!"

Mia’s tears spilled over, and she turned on her heel, running out of the studio sobbing. Max watched her go, his heart aching but his mind resolute. This couldn’t go on.

The next day, Max decided to confront Mia. He found her sitting alone in the lounge, her eyes red from crying. He took a deep breath and approached her. "Mia, we need to talk."

Mia looked up, hope flickering in her eyes. "Max, please, I’m so sorry about yesterday. I didn’t mean to upset you."

Max shook his head, his expression stern. "This isn’t about yesterday, Mia. It’s about everyday. I can’t do this anymore."

Mia’s face crumpled as she started to cry again. "What do you mean? Max, please don’t say that."

Max’s resolve hardened as he spoke. "I can’t date you, Mia. Your behavior with other guys—it’s too much for me. I’ve tried to deal with it, but I can’t. I need someone who makes me feel secure, and that’s not you."

Mia reached out, trying to hold his hand, but Max pulled away. "Max, please! I can change, I promise. Just give me a chance."

Max’s voice was firm as he replied. "No, Mia. This isn’t something that can just be fixed with promises. I’ve made up my mind. Nothing you say will change that."

Mia’s sobs grew louder, her whole body shaking with grief. Max turned his back on her, walking away with a heavy heart. He knew it was the right decision, but it didn’t make it any easier.

As Max left the studio, leaving Mia in tears, he felt a profound sense of loss. Despite everything, he had cared for her deeply. But he also knew that staying in a relationship that made him feel insecure and unhappy wasn’t fair to either of them. It was better to end things now, before the hurt and resentment grew even stronger.

Mia watched him go, her heart breaking with each step he took. She knew she had made mistakes, but she hadn’t realized just how much they had affected Max. Now, it was too late to make things right. The realization hit her hard, leaving her feeling lost and alone.

Their relationship, once filled with potential, had unraveled completely. And as they went their separate ways, both of them were left to pick up the pieces and figure out how to move forward.
