SIDE STORY – Waking Up the Protheans
This side story takes place after chapter 49 and onwards
Javik had arrived at the planet Samael owned in a flash. Ever since he received the news that the facilities were already built, he rushed to the place. He was looking forward to having more of his people to interact with.
After all, he was the only one of his species alive up until now.
Samael had already informed LD personnel about Javik's arrival, so they didn't react much when an unknown ship landed close to them.
Remember, because they had to protect Jason and his builders, 1000 LD men were on the planet, so no one was crazy enough to go there.
Even if they did, what was waiting for them was certain death.
Javik got out of the ship and went to a nearby officer and asked, ''How are they?''
By now, all LD personnel knew Javik and that he worked for them. The officer who got asked knew immediately what he was talking about, '' They were in the hospital. We are told to wait for your arrival before waking them up.''
Samael made sure that Javik was there and instructed everyone beforehand to listen to the Prothean when the subject was his people.
'' Take me there.''
'' Follow me.'' The officer started to make his way toward where the sleeping Protheans were, with Javik following close behind. He made small talk on the way, '' You know, it was surprising to see so many of the so-called extinct species alive. You're supposed to be the last one alive, so it must have been a shock to you.''
'' It was, but I'm just glad to not be the last one alive.'' Javik knew that with the technology at hand, he could repopulate alone somehow, but now, with so many survivors, it was different and more simple.
The small talk continued until both reached the point. The officer said, '' They were inside. There's a medical team around the place, and when you feel ready, just say the word, and they will wake them up for you.''
'' Thank you.''
The officer left, and Javik took a big breath before entering the hospital. There, he saw the many familiar cryopods. He had parted ways with them a few weeks ago, and now he was back in their presence. This time, he was waking them up for good.
'But, how do you do that? Wake all of them up in the same moment or in batches?'
After a little thought, Javik, who wasn't exactly the type of Prothean who waited, decided to wake all of them at the same time. So, he called the medical team.
'' Wake them up. Leave as soon as you do that.'' Based on his own experience, he knew the Protheans would be disoriented and would attack others, just like he did with Samael and the crew.
The medical team then started to wake all of them. Five minutes passed, and they left in a hurry.
In the hospital, only Javik and the open cryopods remained. Anticipation was seen on the Prothean face.
Slowly, the Protheans inside the pod began to wake up one by one. Those who woke early stumbled out of their cryopod and looked around with a little bit of panic in their eyes.
'' Soldiers!'' That shout gathered the attention of everyone.
'' Welcome home.''
--
After a few minutes of explaining the situation to the 100 Protheans, some of whom were scientists, soldiers, etc. They were now up to date with what happened to them and to the galaxy.
Well, not all of what happened in the last 50.000 years, but at least they now know when and where they are.
'' So they are coming again?'' One of the many Protheans, a soldier more specifically, asked, but from his tone of voice, he already knew the Reapers were coming.
Javik nodded, '' And it's our duty to once again guide the inferior species. This time, we will not be at the forefront, but rather at the back, helping them when necessary.''
'' Of course, if they need it, we will be by their side in battle. But until then, we will help them in other ways.''
'' How so?'' One of the Prothean scientists inquired.
'' You see, even though it's 50.000 years into the future, the technology is stagnant. My best guess is that the Reapers must have somehow intervened in this because our technology is better in almost every part.''
It was true. Very little progress has been made in this field for the past 50.000 years.
'' So, we can start with that.'' Javik then noticed the tired faces of everyone. He stopped, and a feeling of compassion rose within the once-cold Prothean.
' They had just woken up from defeat, their last memories must be haunting, and I was just going to throw them at work... Even Samael was better.'
Sighing internally, Javik said, '' But first, let's take a week for you guys to adapt. Then we can start.''
Nods come from everywhere.
'' By the way, this is our planet. Well, not ours exactly, but a good friend of mine lent it to us and said to feel free to upgrade it if necessary.''

FEW WEEKS LATER
The Protheans adaptability was awesome. Save for a few hiccups, like when they tried to act superior with LD personnel, only to be humbled pretty quickly by the superior numbers LD had, they were on good terms with everyone.
The soldiers sparred daily with LD personnel and spent most of their time on the shooting range inside the arsenal. The scientists already started to work on some projects and made a list of what they remembered from the war, such as where the top secret facilities were located, etc.
All in all, the Protheans were adapting well.
The pilot went straight to Javik and asked him to take care of it.
'' Samael personally sent it.'' The pilot said that and left the planet.
Javik looked at who was inside the cryopod, and it clicked on his head, ' Makes sense.'
There's also a note on the cryopod: ' See if you can help her with Prothean Technology.'
Javik smiled at Samael's shamelessness. He would do that without the human asking, as the person in the pod, even though they didn't interact much when they were together, was a good person.
He passed the cryopod to the medical team and said, '' Make sure the person inside is okay. I want a team checking on it every few hours, do you get it?'''
The medical team and a few Prothean doctors nodded at Javik. They then took the cryopod to the infirmary.
Javik then looked around the place, where Protheans were helping humans here and there. He could see the potential they had if they united.
He looked at the sky, facing a past he could not return.
' If there were other species on my cycle, perhaps we would've won...'
The Protheans almost won against the Reapers, the only reason they lost was because of the betrayal by those indoctrinated. If other species were involved...
Javuk shook his head, sending those thoughts away.
' The past is in the past, I must think about the future.'
Looking forward to what the galaxy could do united against the Reapers, Javik returned to his people.
