Thriller!Me? The Death Knight

Chapter 2: Lina, the Vengeful Ghost in Red with Unstable Energy

"Human, it seems you're quite interested in me?"

The sultry, velvety voice of the mature nurse snapped Yi Bai out of his excitement and back into reality.

She stood just under half a meter away, tall and graceful, her figure slender and seductive. In her hand, she now held a sharp scalpel, twirling it skillfully between her long, pale fingers.

Yi Bai could feel the air around him growing colder, thicker with an oppressive aura.

Killing intent!

Danger!

His sharp instincts immediately kicked in. He quickly realized the situation. His earlier intense gaze had caused a huge misunderstanding with the nurse from the Third Hospital. It seemed the nurse's patience was thin, and Yi Bai's lingering stare had pushed her over the edge.

The nurse's patience seemed to be wearing out. Seeing that Yi Bai remained silent, she slowly lifted the cold scalpel, bringing it closer to his face.

Yi Bai's forehead broke out in cold sweat. For the first time in such a situation, his mind was clearer than ever before!

Eye of Insight!

He instantly activated his divine-level talent.

Before his eyes, data only he could see appeared.

Third Hospital Nurse: Lina

Species: Phantom

Affection Level: Hostile (Your fiery gaze has completely wiped out any initial goodwill she had towards you)

Strength: Vengeful Ghost in Red (Who would have thought that a mere nurse could be a terrifying vengeful ghost?)

Likes: Passionate about medicine, aspires to become a renowned physician in the horror world, respecting skilled doctors.

Weakness: Her long, shapely legs are both her pride and her Achilles' heel (Different attack methods will yield different results).

Current Condition: Experiencing a rare, annual state of emotional instability, leading to irritability and mood swings (A common issue, but cannot be solved by traditional "medical" methods in this world). Treatment: Yin Soul Spring water mixed with ten-year-old Otherworldly Flowers, simmered on low heat to a sweet, temperate taste.

Yi Bai barely had time to marvel at the power of his divine-level ability or the strange hints the data provided, for Lina's scalpel had already pressed against his cheek. The cold sensation made his hairs stand on end.

"It seems you don't want to answer my question," Lina's smooth voice was like velvet, yet carried an icy chill that cut to the bone.

The other players closed their eyes, unwilling to witness what they feared would be Yi Bai's gruesome fate.

But then, something unexpected happened.

Yi Bai, unafraid, boldly reached out and grabbed the arm that was holding the scalpel against his face.

It was cold, smooth, and delicate—almost comforting. He thought to himself, In summer, this would feel quite nice...

Lina, seemingly stunned by his boldness, paused for a moment, not immediately tearing him to shreds.

Seizing the opportunity, Yi Bai quickly adjusted his grip and adopted a traditional pulse-checking gesture, just like an old-school Chinese doctor.

"My beautiful lady, no one could possibly be indifferent to your perfection, myself included."

His first words were a compliment, delivered with a calm and confident smile.

He believed that even a ghost would care about her looks, and sure enough, his Eye of Insight immediately showed a subtle shift in Lina's affection level. From "hostile" it shifted to "antagonistic."

Although it was a small change, it confirmed Yi Bai's suspicion: a well-timed compliment worked wonders, no matter the situation!

"If that was your last words, then you can rest in peace," Lina's voice remained cold as ever, and her ghostly aura made everyone else uneasy, afraid her wrath might spill over and claim them as well.

"No, of course, it's not just that. As a doctor with professional ethics, what interests me more is your condition, my lady."

Yi Bai's words were smooth, as he shifted the conversation.

"I'm sorry if my gaze was too... intense, leading to some misunderstandings. But please, forgive me."

"This is my first time in the horror world, and I find the symptoms of non-human beings like yourself incredibly fascinating!"

Yi Bai adopted the persona of an obsessed medical enthusiast, casting an exaggerated, passionate gaze towards the Third Hospital.

"I'm fortunate! My first stop in this world is the Third Hospital! This place is my dream come true!"

"It's only here that I can fully realize my potential as a doctor!"

The scalpel remained against his face, but Yi Bai noticed that Lina's expression softened slightly.

Her affection hadn't changed significantly, likely because she hadn't fully trusted him yet.

"Oh? You're a doctor?" Lina's gaze pierced through him, as if she were searching for any sign of deceit.

"Of course!" Yi Bai responded with unwavering confidence. Years of working in the 996 grind had sharpened his acting skills to a professional level.

"Do you know what would happen if you lied to me?" Lina's voice grew even colder.

"I don't know, but I never lie," Yi Bai answered, his face the very picture of honesty.

"Good!" Lina smiled, her lips curling into a smile so seductive that it was easy to forget she was a vengeful ghost.

"Since you're a doctor and mentioned my condition, why don't you tell me what's wrong with me? Think carefully before you speak. If you're wrong, it won't matter whether you lied or not, because Third Hospital doesn't need quacks."

Lina's agile tongue traced over her sharp little fangs, and her smile hid the most lethal of threats.

Yi Bai calmly released his grip on her cold wrist and shifted his stance.

"I don't need to think. I've already confirmed your condition through pulse diagnosis."

His voice was steady, and he changed the subject with ease. "But... beautiful lady, are you sure you want me to say it out loud?"

Lina's expression shifted subtly. She knew her own condition all too well.

Every year at this time, she felt irritable and uneasy, but there was no real way to solve it. The ghost doctors were great at treating the usual afflictions—missing limbs, organ replacements, even head transplants. But when it came to her specific problem, well... it was taboo, hard to discuss, and none of the ghost doctors had expertise in this area.

"You all, go wait outside the hospital entrance," Lina ordered the other players.

Naturally, none of the others dared to stay and observe, so they obediently headed towards the entrance.

Once they were far enough away, Yi Bai could tell they wouldn't hear anything. Then, Lina gave him a look, signaling that he could speak.

Clearing his throat, Yi Bai paused before saying with full sincerity,

"You're suffering from irregular menstruation... or rather, more accurately, 'annual irregularity.'"

Lina's pale, bloodless face briefly flushed with a faint pink hue.

She wasn't surprised by Yi Bai's precise diagnosis, but immediately asked, "Do you know how to treat it?"

Unknowingly, Lina's tone had shifted from cold to curious.

As Eye of Insight had predicted, she valued medicine highly and respected skilled doctors. She was eager to hear what Yi Bai had to say.

Yi Bai smiled inwardly as he saw the shift in Lina's affection level, now shifting from antagonistic to neutral.

With more understanding of Lina's behavior, he chose not to give the answer immediately.

From what the survivors of the horror world had shared, Yi Bai knew that ghosts weren't all mindless killers. Under certain conditions, humans could strike deals with ghosts to gain special rewards beyond the game's tasks.

And Yi Bai saw just such an opportunity with Lina.
