THREADS OF VENGEANCE

Chapter 3: CHAPTER TWO - THE ACCIDENT IN THE PARKING LOT

As she had been storming towards the exit, determined to escape the suffocating atmosphere of the ballroom, a voice pierced through the air, echoing off the marble walls.

"Lily, wait!"

They're sound sent shivers down her spine, a thousand knives twisting in her chest. She knew that voice, the familiar tone that now seemed laced with malice.

Eliot.

Her ex-husband's voice was like a dark whisper, a haunting reminder of the pain he had inflicted upon her. She didn't need to turn around to know it was him; the very sound of his voice seemed to draw the air out of her lungs.

Lily's eyes scanned the room, searching for an escape, but the crowd seemed to close in around her, trapping her in a sea of expectant faces. She felt like a wounded animal, cornered and vulnerable, as Eliot pushed through the throng, his eyes fixed intently on her.

"We need to talk," he said, his voice low and husky, as he reached her side. The words sent a shiver down her spine, a cold dread that seemed to seep into her very bones.

Lily's eyes locked onto his, her mind racing with questions.

What did he want to talk about?

And why did he seem so interested in her all of a sudden?

But before she could ask any questions, Eliot's hand closed around her elbow, his grip firm but gentle.

"Let's get out of here," he said, his voice low and urgent. "We have a lot to discuss."

Lily's heart pounded in her chest, her anger and fear mingling into a toxic cocktail. She knew Eliot's games, his manipulative tactics, and she wasn't about to fall for them again.

With a surge of adrenaline, Lily pulled her elbow out of Eliot's grasp and took a step back, her eyes flashing with anger.

"I have nothing to say to you, Eliot," she spat, her voice low and venomous. "You've made it clear how you feel about me. I'm not interested in hearing any more of your lies."

Eliot's eyes narrowed, his jaw clenched in anger. But Lily didn't back down. She stood her ground, her heart pounding in her chest, as she waited for him to make his next move.

The air was thick with tension, the silence between them heavy with unspoken words. And then, without warning, Eliot's face twisted with irritation, and he stepped closer, his hand reaching for her arm in an attempt to comfort her.

But Lily was beyond consolation. She was a woman on the edge, driven by a fierce determination to escape the toxic web of her past.

With a fierce cry, she pulled away from him, her heart pounding in her chest.

"No!" she snapped, her voice rising. "You don't get to do this. You don't get to waltz in here with your new girlfriend and pretend everything's fine."

The anger in her voice only seemed to fuel his bitterness. He took a step back, his eyes narrowing.

"You're unbelievable, you know that?" he sneered, his voice dripping with venom. "After everything I did for you, this is how you repay me? You were never enough, Lily. I was always the one carrying this relationship."

Lily recoiled as if he had slapped her. She had heard his hurtful words before, but tonight they felt different.

Cold.

Calculating.

Cruel.

"You never loved me, Eliot," she whispered, the truth finally breaking free. "You never cared about me. I was just some trophy wife to you."

Eliot's face darkened, his nostrils flaring as he stepped even closer.

"You're pathetic," he spat, his expression twisted with contempt. "You think you can just walk away from this? You're nothing without me, Lily. Absolutely nothing."

Lily's chest tightened with the force of his words. She was trembling with rage, but she held her ground, refusing to let him see her weakness.

"I don't need you," she said, her voice low and steady now, a quiet defiance. "I'll be better off without you."

Without another word, she turned and walked away, leaving Eliot standing there at the door of the ballroom, his eyes burning with fury.

She could hear his angry muttering behind her, but she didn't look back. She couldn't.

As she walked deeper into the crisp night air, the wind bit at her skin, and she wrapped her arms around herself, trying to find some warmth. She had to leave. She had to get away from this nightmare.

As she pulled out of the parking lot, the night air was suddenly shattered by the sound of screeching tires and crunching metal. She glanced over her shoulder, her pulse quickening as a black SUV pulled out from the shadows, its headlights blinding. But before she could react, the SUV slammed into her car with incredible force, sending her vehicle spinning out of control like a top. The impact was like a sledgehammer, crushing the rear of her car and sending her careening across the road.

The world around her became a chaotic blur. Her car crashed into a lamppost, the impact throwing her forward against the seatbelt. The airbag exploded in her face, the force of it knocking the wind out of her. She felt like she was trapped in a never-ending nightmare, with no escape from the terror that surrounded her.

The SUV hit her again, its tires squealing in protest as it deliberately targeted her car. The impact was like a bomb going off, the sound of crunching metal and shattering glass filling the air. Lily's car was tossed around like a toy, her body thrown violently against the seatbelt.

Pain exploded in her chest, a searing agony that threatened to consume her. She felt her body being tossed around like a rag doll, her vision fading to black. Blood trickled down from a gash on her forehead, but the worst was the crushing sensation in her chest. It felt like an elephant was sitting on her, squeezing the life out of her.

The darkness crept in, a cold and unforgiving shroud that threatened to consume her. Lily felt herself slipping away, her thoughts fragmenting into a thousand different pieces. Her last thought was a desperate prayer:

"Please… let me have a second chance."

And then, she saw it - a shadow. A figure, tall and imposing, standing just beyond the wreckage of her car. The figure's eyes glowed with an intensity that seemed almost otherworldly. She couldn't make out the details, but there was something about him - something powerful.

Before she could make sense of it, everything went black. The last thing she remembered was the sound of screams, echoing through the darkness like a haunting melody.
