Chapter 392.2: Bloody Battle In The Mist
Tail, Sesame Paste, and Roshan exchanged glances. Although it was the same line, they clearly felt a change in the guy's attitude.
Now that he knew the serum had been taken out of the shelter, he didn't bother to make up detailed excuses.
Perhaps in his view, snatching that box of serum from them wasn't a difficult task. However, perhaps considering the potential risk of the serum being damaged, he was still trying to trick it out of them.
If Sisi hadn't uploaded the entire journal into the forum, they might truly have been kept in the dark.
"Oh, no problem! What should we do?" Tail blinked twice before asking.
The voice from the radio continued, "I'll give you a set of coordinates. You can find the person I mentioned there. He will tell you how to use those serums."
Thinking of the plan Sesame Paste mentioned earlier, Tail couldn't help but ask, "Now?"
Mr. Yong explained patiently, "Of course not now. My friend doesn't want to risk being spotted by that airship when he goes out, Let's wait for the day after tomorrow."
"The fog is expected to rise early in the morning the day after tomorrow. Just bring the serum with you then."
Knowing that the serum had been successfully brought out of the shelter, Mr. Yong, who had been urging them to hurry, was no longer in such a rush.
Two days quickly passed.
At the agreed time, the Order of the White Bear brought the serum to the designated location following Mr. Yong's instructions.
However, to everyone's surprise, what awaited them here was not a human but a Deathclaw that had just passed its juvenile phase.
Its limbs were completely bitten off, and only half of its tail remained. It was lying on the ground, its raspy breathing sounding like a wail.
Tail instinctively tightened her grip on her assault rifle, raising the muzzle to aim at the wild creature.
The next second, the radio in Sesame Paste's arms suddenly rang again. "Don't worry, that guy is harmless, and now that he's become like this, he doesn't have the strength to bite you anymore."
With a laugh that made one's teeth ache, that voice no longer hid the owner's excitement and cruelty.
Pretending not to hear any abnormality, Sesame Paste took a deep breath of the cold air around her and asked seriously, "Where's your friend?"
"He can't make it due to some issues, but no worries, having you here is just the same," Mr. Yong spoke cheerfully.
As expected, it's much easier to fool the residents of the shelter than those cunning wastelanders.
Previously, to lure those mercenaries and bounty hunters into the shelter to retrieve the serum for him, he had resorted to kidnapping, death threats, and promises of benefits.
Now... All he had to use was the excuse of saving the world.
Expecting to save the world with a few doses of serum... Only residents of a shelter would believe such a fairy tale.
Sesame Paste asked earnestly, "What next? What do you need us to do?"
"Hmm...Let me think. First, carry the box over there, then take out the serum from the upper left corner. You can inject it anywhere into the beast."
Ordinary needles couldn't pierce the scales of a Deathclaw. However, the injured creature lying before them was different.
That unfortunate creature had its eyes poked out, limbs and tail bitten off, and was left with barely half its life. Every breath it took was like a candle in the wind, as if it would breath its last the next second.
Clearly, Mr. Yong didn't fully trust them.
Perhaps the ease of obtaining the serum had made him wary, so he brought in a little guy from somewhere to help him test out the serum in case of any poison.
However... Tail and the others weren't planning on using poison anyway.
With the immunity and regenerative abilities of a Deathclaw, probably only a dose strong enough to kill it instantly could poison one.
"... I'll do it." Shooting Tail and Roshan a determined look, Sesame Paste pretended to be unaware and placed the radio on the ground. She slowly carried the box containing the serums forward.
She took a serum from the silver-white box, aimed at the blood-soaked half of the injured Deathclaw's shoulder. Gathering her courage, she stabbed the needle into its body.
As she pushed the syringe down, a raspy scream emerged from the lips of the Deathclaw on the ground.
The creature that was injected suddenly sprung up from the ground like it was electrified, then lost balance and crashed back down.
Like a last flicker of life before dying, it writhed on the ground in pain, blood splattering everywhere.
In less than a minute, the Deathclaw turned stiff and curled up into a ball. It no longer breathed and its heartbeat stopped.
Witnessing the bloody scene before her, Sesame Paste's heart raced, and she couldn't help but step back in fright. "What... What happened?"
"Ha ha ha... It's nothing. Very well done!"
After he spoke, Mr. Yong went silent. The voice no longer came from the radio.
At almost the same time, a towering figure emerged from the morning fog in the distance. Its body was draped with chains, and it approached with a heavy and steady pace.
Feeling the overwhelming pressure, the remaining members of the Order of the White Bear stared at the creature with wide eyes.
"OH MY GOD! It's a super sized Garbage-kun!" Tail muttered under her breath, cautiously glancing at a distant skyscraper before quickly withdrawing her gaze.
Standing beside her, Roshan was nervously on guard. She stood ready in a defensive stance and asked, "Is this another female species?"
"Eh?! How can you tell it's a female?" Tail looked at her in fright.
Roshan's face turned subtly red. "Can't you take a look for yourself?"
The massive Deathclaw didn't take her wariness to heart. Glancing at Roshan, it suddenly spoke in the Federation tongue.
"Not all beings can bear the grace of evolution. That little guy had all its potential tapped out. It's normal to die after that."
The next second, the giant Deathclaw eyed the girls standing in the middle of the street. Its lips curled up into a smile and it spoke, "Don't panic. I won't hurt you, after all, you've done me a big favor."
Sesame Paste gulped, her voice trembling as she spoke. "Are you... Mr. Yong?"
She had guessed as much, but seeing such a large creature speak still seemed somewhat unbelievable to her.
"It seems you're surprised." Pleased with the expression on the catgirl's face, the Deathclaw seemed too lazy to make up complete excuses any longer. It simply commanded, "Now, help me inject the serum. Afterward, I'll need your help with one more thing, You need to kill that beast in Shelter 79. It's right below the room at the entrance to the experimental facility."
"After the job is done, I'll pay you."
It didn't possess complete authority yet.
A part was still held by the real administrator of Shelter 79. Only by killing the Mother of Deathclaws could it gain complete authority, fully controlling every inch of Shelter 79.
Looking up at that giant, Sesame Paste muttered, "How will you pay us?"
"Evolution." Casually speaking, the Deathclaw looked down at her with a smile, the breath from its nostrils causing the leaves poking through the concrete road to sway left and right.
"Don't you want to be like me? To possess extraordinary power? You'll keep your own will and become the strongest beings on this planet. You could even propagate your own species, becoming their founding ancestor!"
Sesame Paste's expression stiffened, and she didn't speak.
Standing not far away, Tail suddenly shivered. "Uh, sorry... I still think bears are cuter."
Roshan also nodded subtly. "Hmm, suddenly I feel being a bear isn't so bad."
Following the usual cutscene-style gameplay, their decision would likely lead to a branch in the storyline. If they chose to embrace evolution, they might embark on a completely different main storyline.
However, since the game was still in its Beta test, entering an unfinished storyline might also lead to a crash due to a bug.
"How should I inject you with it?" Sesame Paste cautiously asked, "The needles for injecting the serum can't penetrate your scales, can they?"
"That's simple." Pleased with the submissive attitude of the lass in front of him, it slightly lowered its towering head, drawing closer.
It slowly opened its massive jaw.
The stench of decay hit her face. Clearly, since becoming a mutant, Mr. Yong had never brushed its teeth.
Looking at the forked tongue wriggling and the pulsating capillaries, Sesame Paste, holding the serum, felt her hair stand on end. The blood seemed to freeze in her veins.
Regardless, there wouldn't be a better chance.
The moment Mr. Yong let down its guard, two shortened-fuse grenades appeared in a flash as she tossed them into its mouth.
The moment those strange objects were thrown into its mouth, Mr. Yong's basin-sized pupils instantly filled with surprise and fear.
Not waiting to watch the explosion, Sesame Paste agilely ducked beside a derelict car.
The next instant, a loud blast resonated through the air.
Flames filled the area as flesh and shattered Deathclaw's teeth splattered on the walls and wrecked cars on both sides of the street. There was even a sizzling sound of charred flesh from the aftermath.
Sesame Paste carefully peeked her head out from behind the cover.
She was greeted by a massive head that resembled rotting wood with the entire jaw blasted open. It was a bloody mess...
"Did it work?" Excitement flickered in her eyes, but her excitement didn't last two seconds before her gaze turned serious when the large body started moving again.
The flesh in the open wound crawled like worms as they healed at an incredible pace.
While she had considered that hoping to finish off such a super-boss level figure with two grenades was somewhat fantastical, what she didn't expect was that its recovery speed completely exceeded her understanding. Injuries to the head, which should have been fatal, healed easily, making him as good as new. She didn't even have a chance to strike again.
Is this guy still a carbon-based life form?!
"Very well..."
As the last inch of the wound stitched itself together, Mr. Yong gently shook its head. With the chains around its body clattering, it turned to Sesame Paste who was hiding behind the old car.
It spoke extremely casually, "The path to transcendence lies before you. I gave you a chance, yet you foolishly chose to reject it."
The next second, it extended its claws.
They were half a meter long, and they curled like five scythes. Tangible murderous intent permeated the dense morning fog, filling the entire street in an instant.
At the same time, shrill cries came from the distance.
Those were howling of Deathclaws.
Like all bosses... The ability to summon minions was a basic skill. Clearly, Mr. Yong didn't come alone.
It had already transformed the nearby area and clearly, those of its fellow species inhabited the street.
"I will kill you in the most brutal way. Including everyone in your species!"
"Farewell..."
Before its words fell, a flash of fire tore through the fog as a thunderous blast rang in the distance.
A 37mm armor-piercing incendiary shell fired from a heavy cavalry gun, traveling over a kilometer in a flash, slammed into the back of the Deathclaw. The large body shook as though it took a heavy kick to the back.
A painful howl filled the air as Tail punched the air in excitement. "Oooo! Nice shot!"
Visibility in the area was less than 100 meters. However, a shot calculated from their positions actually hit the target accurately!
It was a pity they failed to hit a vital spot...
With a slight gasp, a calm voice also came through the earpiece.
"Plan B..."
"Move, move, move!"
