Chapter 9
When Jiang Wei was twelve years old, she experienced the first "transformation" in a girl's life.
Coming back from the bathroom during the last class break, Jiang Wei held her stomach with a poor complexion. Yi Ming threw her several notes but she did not take any of them.
After school, Yi Ming rode his bike to catch up with her and grabbed her shoulder, "I was wrong, hit me."
Jiang Wei stopped and frowned slightly: "Why?"
Yi Ming pursed his lips tightly, looking at her solemnly: "You ignoring me means I'm wrong. No matter what I did, it's my fault. I apologize, please forgive me, okay?"
Jiang Wei was stunned for a moment, then smiled helplessly: "It's not because of you."
Then she continued, "I'm going to die soon, you probably won't see me in a few days. So you won't feel sad for me after I die, I decided we should stop contacting each other after today."
After saying that, she took off her backpack behind her and took out the things in the folder of the school bag and handed them to Yi Ming.
The remaining pocket money, the silver bracelet her mother gave her, and a box of cherry flavored candy.
"These are all the legacy I left for you, you must keep them well. The candy was brought back from Japan by my cousin, it has a short shelf life, you should eat it as soon as possible."
At that time, Jiang Wei did not know what a "first period" was at all, and Yi Ming was a boy, so he naturally did not understand either.
Jiang Wei thought she was going to die soon. She felt reluctant to part with Yi Ming but could not cry.
The only way she could express her feelings was to ignore him. If she ignored him, he would slowly forget about her. That way, even if she left, she would feel much more at ease.
Thinking of the "straight girl style" elegy she once used to scare Yi Ming into crying in public, Jiang Wei thought about it and finally did not send out the farewell message.
She was used to dealing with distress silently by herself. Saying goodbye only stayed in her heart.
After moving in, on the first day, Jiang Wei took the initiative to clean up the entire room.
The landlord told Jiang Wei that her roommate would be finalized soon. The other party was a girl planning to go to graduate school, with a gentle voice and cheerful personality. She had an 8-year history of raising pets at home before coming to school, gentle and loving.
Jiang Wei was not good at socializing. She could only silently do what she could for her future roommate.
After finishing the dusting for the senior sister’s room, at dusk when the stars spilled onto the night sky, Jiang Wei brought a small stool and sat with Xiao Shi to watch the stars on the open balcony.
“Xiao Shi, did you see stars before you met me?”
Jiang Wei gently stroked Xiao Shi's fur on his back, very soft, like a small furry blanket with body temperature.
"When I was little, he and I would often watch the night sky together. That guy always volunteered to count stars for me until I fell asleep leaning on his shoulder, and he would still be counting."
After a pause, Jiang Wei sighed gently, "Don't you think he was silly?"
Xiao Shi nestled in Jiang Wei's arms and miraculously whimpered twice immediately, as if he had already developed a “compete for affection” feeling towards this “love rival” whom he had never met.
Jiang Wei smiled. She blinked and looked up at the sky, and sniffed her nose.
What people fear the most is getting used to something.
Getting used to someone's late-night phone calls, getting used to someone's daily good night, when one day these habits suddenly start to disappear from your life, you realize that you have been together for so long.
Just as Jiang Wei was lost in thought, there was a sudden strange rustling sound from the balcony next door.
Xiao Shi was the first to wake up. The little guy suddenly got up from Jiang Wei's arms, sniffed with his nose, and began to rumble in his throat.
"Xiao Shi."
Jiang Wei patted Xiao Shi's back to comfort him. She suddenly remembered that the landlord had said that the neighbor had been vacant for a long time. The owner was far away in Canada and had no intention to rent it out because it was troublesome.
So... this sound is...
Mice? Stray cats? Racoon dogs?
Or maybe... Thinking of this, Jiang Wei suddenly felt a chill down her spine. Remembering that she was alone tonight, she hugged Xiao Shi for safety, put on her slippers and ran back to the room.
