Chapter 66
The bell rang, signaling the end of the anatomy class. Yi Ming, wearing a white lab coat, walked out of the Fourth Teaching Building and spotted a small figure waiting for him under a tree in the distance.
He smirked and approached her.
"Why did you come here?"
Usually, Yi Ming liked to stroke Jiang Wei's soft hair when they met, but this time his hands were still stained with some chemicals from the lab that he couldn't wash off, so he just pursed his lips into a smile and stood there gazing at her.
Jiang Wei's hands were tightly clenched together in front of her. Her eyes darted around, and then she let her hands fall to her sides.
"Were you... taking an anatomy class just now?"
She asked softly.
"Yeah, how did you know?"
Yi Ming looked at her with some surprise, eyeing her up and down with a light chuckle, "Did our little Jiang Wei sneak a peek at my schedule? Trying to get to know more about my daily routine..."
"Who wants to know." Jiang Wei's handsome face looked cool and aloof, but the corners of her mouth curled up slightly, "It was Xiao Liang. Xiao Liang has a friend in your department, and she heard from her friend that the lab animals you used today would be sent to the pet rescue center to be adopted. Is that right?" "Yes, that's right." Yi Ming nodded, speaking gently, "Before class, I discussed with the professor about how to handle these little ones, and he agreed to adopt the most humane approach."
Jiang Wei nodded, feeling proud of Yi Ming's kindness deep down.
"Xiao Liang's sister works in a nearby city and lives alone. She's been wanting to keep a small pet for companionship, so Xiao Liang wanted to ask me to talk to you. You have a good relationship with the professor, so could you maybe contact him and see if he can give her a little rabbit?"
Yi Ming looked slightly stunned upon hearing this, but then nodded, "That shouldn't be a problem. I can help talk to the professor."
"Okay, thank you."
Jiang Wei let out a light breath.
"So, you came here to find me after class because of someone else's business..."
Yi Ming shoved his well-defined hands into the pockets of his lab coat, the corners of his mouth slightly curling up as he reverted to his usual lazy, nonchalant demeanor, "Ah, I thought a certain someone missed me and came here especially to see me. Looks like I was overthinking it..."
Jiang Wei's mouth curved slightly, "What counts as 'especially' and what counts as 'not especially'? I could have just waited for you to come home at noon and told you then."
"So you were in a hurry to see me after all?"
Yi Ming was delighted now, his eyes brimming with joy.
Jiang Wei didn't respond, but although she wasn't as direct in expressing her emotions as Yi Ming, she knew that seeing him smile would instantly make her heart flutter with life...
Yi Ming needed to go back to the dorm to change out of his lab coat and clean up properly.
Jiang Wei accompanied him on the way back. As they walked, Jiang Wei, who had been looking down, suddenly looked up and asked, "Yi Ming, that small building next to the one where you take anatomy classes... what is that building?"
Jiang Wei's question made Yi Ming pause. The building next door... was the storage building for the Department of Clinical Medicine, which housed rooms for storing medical research-related materials.
"That building is the storage building belonging to the Department of Clinical Medicine. Why do you ask?"
"No... no reason."
"Jiang Wei?" Yi Ming noticed Jiang Wei's expression suddenly becoming somewhat odd. He knew something must have happened, so he pressed, "What's going on? If you don't tell me, I'll go ask the security guard at the storage building myself."
"Hey, don't!"
Jiang Wei abruptly looked up, grabbing Yi Ming's arm urgently and shaking her head, "Don't go."
"Okay, I won't go. But then you have to tell me honestly, what happened?"
Yi Ming stood still, looking at her with some concern in his eyes as he asked.
