Chapter 5: Echoes of the Past
Eva pulled away, her heart pounding as she looked into Elias's eyes. The flicker of the beast within him had terrified her, but she also saw the agony he endured to resist his nature.
Elias turned away, his voice strained. "Eva, I can't...I can't control it.....you shouldn't be near me."
Eva reached out, her fingers trembling as they brushed against his hand. "Even though I'm terrified of you, I feel like I'm meant to be with you...there's something about you that feels...familiar, like a memory I can't quite grasp."
Elias's eyes softened with a mix of sorrow and longing. "You don't understand, Eva.....being with me while you're still mortal puts you in danger. There are things about me...about us, that you don't know."
Despite his warning, Eva felt an unexplainable pull towards him. "I don't care about the danger I need to know why I feel this way. Please, Elias, tell me everything."
Elias hesitated, torn between his love for her and the fear of what his truth would bring. "Eva, your heart is leading you into shadows darker than you can imagine but if you truly wish to know, I will tell you."
. She learned about Elias's eternal life as a vampire, his struggles with his thirst for human blood, and the painful decision to hide his true nature from her.
As Elias spoke, Eva's heart ached with the weight of his confession. She felt a strange sense of déjà vu, as if she had heard this story before, in another lifetime. The room seemed to close in around them, the air heavy with unspoken words.
Eva took a step back, fear creeping into her heart. "Why do I feel this connection to you ? If I've lived so many lives, why do I still remember part of you?"
Elias looked at her with a mixture of hope and despair. "Some bonds are too strong to be broken by time or death. Our love is one of those bonds but it comes with a terrible price."
Eva's mind raced, trying to process everything. "What price?"
Elias's grip tightened on the edge of the table, his knuckles white. "Bloodlust, every moment I'm with you, I'm fighting not to give in....one slip, one moment of weakness, and you could be in danger."
Eva stepped closer, determined despite the fear that gripped her. "T...Then teach me. Teach me how to help you control it I....I won't let fear drive us apart."
Elias hesitated, his voice trembling. "It's not just me, Eva.Lucian, he won't stop until he destroys everything I care about. Including you."
Eva's eyes widened in terror. "How can you say that so calmly? T....This is too much, I thought I could handle this but.....I...I need to get out of here."
Before Elias could react, Eva turned and fled from the room, her fear driving her through the darkened streets. The night air was cold against her skin as she ran, her breath coming in ragged gasps. She had no destination, only the need to escape the overwhelming terror.
Her vision blurred by tears, Eva didn't notice the car speeding towards her. The headlights bore down on her, and she froze, paralyzed by fear. Just as the car screeched to a halt, inches from her, she felt strong arms wrap around her and lift her off the ground.
Elias flew into the night sky, his grip firm yet gentle. "Eva, you can't do this. Running away won't solve anything. It only puts you in more danger."
Eva's heart pounded even harder, fear gripping her as she looked into his intense, angry eyes. "I was just trying to get away...I didn't mean to..."
Elias's voice was a mix of anger and desperation. "You could have been killed. I can't lose you again, Eva. Not like this."
They landed softly in a secluded spot, far from prying eyes. Eva trembled in his arms, her fear of Elias now mingling with her fear of the unknown. "I don't know what to do, Elias. I'm scared."
Elias's expression softened slightly, his anger giving way to concern. "I'm scared too, Eva but we have to face this together. I'll protect you, no matter what."
Eva shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "I don't understand any of this. How am I supposed to believe that I've lived multiple lives, that your brother is trying to kill me? It sounds like a nightmare."
Elias gently wiped away her tears. "I know it's hard to believe, but it's the truth. I wish I could make it all go away, make you forget everything and just live a normal life but I can't. All I can do is promise to protect you."
Eva looked up at him, her fear mixed with a glimmer of hope. "You've watched me die so many times. Why didn't you stop him?"
Elias's face twisted with pain. "I tried, Eva. Every time, I tried. But Lucian is cunning, and he knows how to stay one step ahead. This time, I won't fail. I will protect you."
The weight of his words settled over Eva like a heavy blanket. She felt the enormity of their situation pressing down on her, but she also felt a strange sense of calm. "I don't know how we're going to do this, but I trust you, Elias. I just need time to understand and accept everything."
Elias nodded, his expression filled with determination. "Take all the time you need. I'll be here, watching over you. We'll face whatever comes together."
As they stood in the dim light, a silence settled between them, filled with unspoken promises and shared strength. Eva couldn't shake the fear, but she knew that whatever lay ahead, she had to face it. With Elias.
Suddenly, Elias's grip on her tightened, his breath growing shallow. Eva felt his body tremble, and she saw the hunger in his eyes. "E....Elias...what's happening?"
Elias's voice was strained, barely controlled. "I need to get you home, now. My bloodlust...it's getting stronger. I can't fight it much longer."
Eva's fear spiked, but she nodded, understanding the urgency. Elias moved swiftly, carrying her through the streets to her home. Once they reached her door, he set her down gently, his hands trembling. "Stay inside, Eva. Lock the doors. I need to go, before I hurt you."
Eva reached out, her voice shaking. "Please, Elias, don't leave me."
Elias's eyes were filled with a desperate longing. "I have to. For your safety. I'll be back when it's safe."
With that, Elias turned and flew into the night, his silhouette disappearing against the moonlit sky. Eva watched him go, her heart aching with fear and confusion. the man she was suppose to fear, she wanted him to stay?. She locked the door behind her, sinking to the floor as the reality of their situation settled in.
