There’s No Way My Maid Is a Villain

Ch. 10

Elder Sister

After many events, Yinhua finally arrived at the school. Seeing the male butler next to Xiya, she realized that this must be a bodyguard arranged by her family.

Last time's incident couldn't have been concealed from her family.

However, Yinhua didn't intend to explain the truth to Xiya—she feared there would be a rift between Aili and Xiya, as, after all, one of them had tried to kill the other, which was no trivial matter.

With the ringing of the class bell, Yinhua withdrew her wandering thoughts and returned to the classroom.

"Ordinary magic cannot achieve flight. However, we can use magic to gather air beneath our feet and step upward, but this method consumes a lot of mana. Jumping to a certain height requires multiple uses of this spell, so you must be careful around the time of casting. If you run out of mana and the platform cannot form, falling from a great height will be extremely dangerous."

The teacher tirelessly explained various marvelous uses of magic.

But Yinhua didn't listen to a single word—not because she didn't want to, but because it was all meaningless to her.

No matter the magic technique, there's one prerequisite: you must possess magic.

For Yinhua, with a 0% magic resonance rate, she couldn't cast a single spell. No amount of technique could help her.

The reason she attended classes at this school was simply that it was a famous institution—Baiying Academy, where all sorts of people mingled: nobles, commoners, children of officials and generals, and even possibly enemy spies.

The reason the imperial capital placed her here was because of the princess's overly conspicuous status—they hoped to use her as bait to catch some bigger fish.

"Teacher, according to what you said, if we use magic to gather air beneath our feet, what if the opponent uses large-scale wind-element magic and prevents the air from gathering? What should we do then?"

The question came from the class monitor, Jin Yu. Because Yinhua had been absent a lot shortly after starting school, they hadn't interacted much.

"I can answer this for you. Some people can control the direction of lightning in a storm. Likewise, we can control air currents. When the wind blows away air, it also brings airflow. We can use the airflow to form platforms again. This is essentially the same as gathering air."

"Then..."

Yinhua stopped listening to their discussion. She felt that she simply wasn't from the same world as them.

Even the most ordinary people would have a 1% to 10% magic resonance rate.

She, with 0%, was the first—this fact had always made her gloomy.

Meanwhile, a mysterious woman had hurriedly arrived at Yinhua's home.

Aili, as a maid, received this guest who had come from afar.

The woman with long golden hair immediately asked Aili where Yinhua was.

Upon being told she was at school, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Noticing her anxious demeanor, Aili prepared some tea and pastries, hoping to calm her down.

But when she returned carrying the refreshments, the young woman had already fallen asleep on the sofa.

Back at the school, as the bell marking the end of the school day rang, Yinhua packed up her things. Glancing toward Xiya, it seemed Xiya was about to greet her, but the butler stopped her:
"Young miss, the master has instructed that you must not encounter any accidents in the next few days, so please avoid contact with others."

Helplessly, Xiya withdrew her outstretched hand.

Seeing this, Yinhua couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt. After all, things had turned out this way in no small part because of her.

"Xiya, I'm sorry. One day I will confess everything to you. Please forgive me."

With that, she picked up her schoolbag and left campus. Xiya watched Yinhua leave until she was out of sight, and only then did she follow the butler home.

As the moon draped the night sky, Yinhua also returned home.

"I'm back."

"Welcome back, my dear miss."

Aili performed a standard maid's curtsy and greeted Yinhua.

"How can you act so natural?"

Yinhua thought.

Ever since that morning, she hadn't known how to face her maid.

Seeing Aili act as if nothing happened made her unsettled, like she'd been toyed with and then tossed aside.

"Ah, by the way, dear miss, there's a guest who has been waiting for you for a long time."

"A guest? I don't have any guests."

Yinhua tilted her head in confusion. She hadn't been here long and didn't know many people. It was hard to imagine anyone would come looking for her.

"It's your elder sister."

"Sister? No way..."

Suddenly, Yinhua thought of something.

Entering the living room, she saw a woman sprawled unattractively on the sofa, talking in her sleep and drooling.

"Big sis Liqin, why are you here?"

This woman was Yinhua's imperial elder sister, Wanhua Liqin—a water-type mage with a 90% magic resonance rate.

Since the woman on the sofa showed no sign of waking up, Yinhua had to use her ultimate move.

She slowly bent down next to her ear and whispered, "Big sis Liqin, mother is here."

The girl's eyes snapped open, full of panic, and she leapt off the sofa—only to lose her balance and fall. She quickly climbed back up.

"Why is your sister so afraid of the Queen Mother?"

Aili asked in confusion.

"I'll tell you another day."

Once she realized that person wasn't there, the girl let out a long sigh of relief.

She was about to climb back onto her comfortable sofa when she finally noticed Yinhua.

"Ah! Little Yin, you're back! I missed you so much!"

"After so long apart, isn't there something else you should say first? What brings you here? I'm warning you, I have no power or money now."

Yinhua spread her hands, showing her poverty.

"Oh, come on! What kind of little sister makes her big sis wait all day and doesn't even let her nap? And you even scared me with the 'mother' trick! Then you break my heart as soon as you open your mouth. Am I that kind of person, Aili?"

"Yes."

The maid replied without hesitation.

"My little sister's lack of trust pains me, as if pierced by a thousand arrows."

"My trust in you has long since been tossed to the Creator."

"Ahem, enough with the jokes. There's something important this time."

"What is it?"

Liqin's voice suddenly turned serious, catching Yinhua off guard.

"In three days, it will be January 1st of Year 5000."

"Don't tell me—!?"

"That's right. The once-in-a-millennium Spirit Selection is about to begin."
