Chapter 47: Misgivings in the Heart
Ouyang Feifei didn't say anything more, lowered the car window, and nodded at the beautiful woman standing outside who shared her similarly stiff expression. The woman immediately opened the car door, and Ouyang Feifei got out of the car.
Luo Ziling harbored a bellyful of discontent, but in the end, he still pushed open the car door and got out.
After getting out of the car, he saw Jin Guoqiang, the steward he had met during his first visit, standing at the doorway, who immediately came over to greet them as they got out of the car.
"Mr. Luo, please come inside," Jin Guoqiang said with a smile, offering Luo Ziling a bow, "Huihui has been naughty, and I'm glad you're okay after being frightened."
After greeting Luo Ziling, he then respectfully addressed Ouyang Feifei, "Miss has returned, Sir Ouyang is inside waiting for you."
Ouyang Feifei nodded at Jin Guoqiang and, without saying anything, walked into the villa with an elegant stride.
Following behind her, the expressionless cool-faced woman also entered the villa behind Ouyang Feifei.
Luo Ziling intentionally lingered behind, and when Ouyang Feifei and her companion had walked a few steps away, he quietly asked Jin Guoqiang, "Mr. Qiang, does Sir Ouyang know about what just happened?"
"Yes," Jin Guoqiang nodded, "Sir Ouyang instructed the young lady to handle the matter. Don't worry, it will be taken care of. The Li Family won't come looking for trouble, and they will be here to apologize shortly."
"I almost got killed by their random shooting," Luo Ziling said with indignation on his face, "It would have been terribly unjust if I had died just like that."
Thinking of his grandfather who raised him, Luo Ziling felt an immense sense of resentment.
His grandfather had raised him and kindly sent him to the big city, and yet, just a few days after his arrival, he nearly met an untimely death.
He couldn't imagine what his grandfather would think if he knew about this.
He couldn't conceive how heartbroken his grandfather would be if he had actually died.
But Luo Ziling knew for certain that his grandfather would be devastated.
With these thoughts, his resentment towards Ouyang Huihui and that person named Li Dongjun was enormous.
Seeing Luo Ziling's angry face, Jin Guoqiang was slightly surprised, but ultimately he said nothing.
As Luo Ziling entered the living room following Jin Guoqiang, Ouyang Feifei was standing by Ouyang Lingyun's side talking. Her companion, the cool-faced beautiful woman, still stood expressionlessly to one side, eyes fixed on the ground in front of her, exuding a calm demeanor.
When Luo Ziling came in, Ouyang Feifei stopped talking and ordered the other woman, "Wang Qing, you can go out first!"
"Yes, Miss," the woman replied, and after giving a slight nod to Ouyang Lingyun, she left without casting a glance at Luo Ziling.
"My assistant, Wang Qing," Ouyang Feifei explained to Luo Ziling, then continued, "Grandfather already knows about the incident, and soon they will come to apologize and compensate you for your loss."
"Ziling, I'm sorry you were frightened," Ouyang Lingyun said, full of remorse, "I had Huihui bring you over for a simple meal today, but I did not expect such an incident would happen. I'm truly sorry. I'm grateful you're okay; otherwise, I wouldn't know how to face your grandfather."
"Grandfather, it's all trouble caused by Huihui," Ouyang Feifei softly interjected.
"Soon I will have Huihui apologize to you, as well as Li Jiacheng and his son Li Dongjun. They will come to apologize and offer you some compensation," Ouyang Lingyun said to Luo Ziling, looking embarrassed, "Li Jiacheng has been our business partner for many years, and our relationship is pretty good. So, if you could, try not to take it to heart too much. They will compensate you; just consider it a favor for this old man."
Since Ouyang Lingyun had put it this way, Luo Ziling naturally couldn't keep showing his dissatisfaction and thus smiled, "It's fine, the matter is in the past now."
However, he resolved in his heart to keep his distance from the Ouyang Family as much as possible in the future to avoid bigger troubles.
Today, he had narrowly escaped with his life, and who knew what would happen next time.
Also, if it weren't for his own adeptness, he couldn't imagine what the likes of Ouyang Huihui would have done to him today.
Being displeased at heart, the meal he had today was entirely tasteless.
The Ouyang Family's dinner was lavish, but Luo Ziling had little appetite.
The only ones joining the dinner apart from him were Ouyang Lingyun, as well as the sisters Ouyang Feifei and Ouyang Huihui.
The Ouyang Family had many members; Ouyang Feifei's father had several brothers, but this villa was usually inhabited only by Ouyang Lingyun, with the younger generations seldom visiting. Ouyang Feifei and Ouyang Huihui also had their own residences elsewhere.
During the dinner, it was mainly Ouyang Lingyun speaking. Ouyang Huihui and Ouyang Feifei said little, and Luo Ziling also spoke few words.
Ouyang Huihui was reprimanded by Ouyang Lingyun and Ouyang Feifei, feeling full of resentment. Her grudge against Luo Ziling deepened a bit more.
While eating, she sulked in silence, simply focusing on her meal.
Ouyang Feifei by nature rarely spoke and seldom initiated conversations.
Dinner was somewhat somber, which made everyone quite uncomfortable.
After dinner, Luo Ziling declined Ouyang Lingyun's entreaty to stay and insisted on leaving.
Ouyang Lingyun had wanted Luo Ziling to wait for Li Jiacheng to bring his son, Li Dongjun, to apologize and discuss compensation, but seeing Luo Ziling's disgruntled mood and insistence on leaving, Ouyang Lingyun eventually did not press further.
"I'll take you back," Ouyang Feifei volunteered to drive Luo Ziling back to school, also suggesting that Ouyang Huihui join them.
Ouyang Huihui had wanted to protest, not wishing to leave with Luo Ziling, but in the end, she yielded to Ouyang Feifei's domineering attitude.
However, using the excuse of not wanting to disturb Luo Ziling and Ouyang Huihui's private conversation, she hid in another car.
That Rolls-Royce Phantom, topped with an "R," was occupied only by Luo Ziling and Ouyang Feifei, aside from the driver.
"Are you still brooding over today's incident?" Ouyang Feifei initiated the conversation in the car.
There was a soundproof partition between the front and rear seats; conversations in the back could not be heard by the driver in the front.
Looking out the window, Luo Ziling turned to glance at Ouyang Feifei, who looked at him with clear eyes, and after smiling, he said, "The matter's in the past, let's not talk about it."
Of course he minded—it was what Luo Ziling felt in his heart.
He wasn't magnanimous enough to forget almost losing his life, having walked through Ghost Gate Pass, without holding the instigator accountable.
Being clear about gratitude and grudges was his life's principle.
"You haven't let go in your heart."
Luo Ziling didn't respond, instead turning his gaze back to the car window.
The city's neon lights interwove into a dazzling landscape outside the car window. Luo Ziling watched blankly, not wanting to say a word.
He missed the life in the small mountain village, with his grandfather by his side; that felt like home.
Having come to the Capital, he felt very alone.
Seeing that Luo Ziling was not interested in conversing with her, Ouyang Feifei, feeling snubbed, also fell silent. Thus, the two of them remained silent throughout the journey.
When the car was still a distance from the school, he asked to stop.
After stopping, he uttered a simple goodbye and then strode away.
