I had arranged a carriage bound for Riveria.

As Mirabelle boarded the carriage, her expression seemed somewhat uneasy. Even though she couldn't use magic yet, she must vaguely sense that she was a witch.

After all, it had been the source of all her misfortune.

But I had no other choice. I needed to turn Mirabelle into a witch to liberate her in the best possible state.

In truth, slave liberation itself was possible anytime as long as minimal conditions were met. For Mirabelle, the minimum condition for liberation was removing the 'Distrust in Humanity' debuff.

The clergy who showed her kindness killed her mother. Her only remaining blood relative betrayed and sold her into slavery.

If I could somehow fix just that part and bring her back to normal, the conditions to set her free would be met.

But this was a tycoon game.

Sure, you could make kimbap with just seaweed and rice, but it was only natural that beef kimbap with various ingredients like spinach and pickled radish sold for a higher price.

I was going to invest everything I could into Mirabelle's foundation. That way, I would be able to reap the generous rewards later and even return home. Among those investments, teaching Mirabelle magic was absolutely essential.

Afterward, the two-horse carriage rolled its wheels, departing from the city.

As we entered the forest path, the scent of the woods wafted through the air, and birds singing could be heard. Hmm, how peaceful.

Screech.

I thought I heard the sound of a demonic beast dying, but I casually ignored it.

There wasn't much to do during this journey. I might as well do a mid-point check and look at my status.

[Name : Karami]

Title : Slave Reaper

Points : 27,000

First, the title.

To be honest, titles were pretty useless. Sometimes in games, titles came with stat bonuses, but that was not the case in TOS. This was a tycoon game about raising slaves, not an RPG where I became stronger.

But there was one interesting thing. The title 'Slave Reaper' didn't exist when it was just a game. It seemed that as people kept calling me that, it became officially recognized as a title in my status window.

Next, the points.

This was the currency you received upon liberating slaves. You could purchase various items from the shop with it, but its most useful function was exchanging it for gold coins.

The exchange rate for points is 1:1 with Korean won.

In other words, it was basically cash. Since the gold coins bought with points were equivalent to those purchased with real money, I had 2,700 gold coins for emergencies.1

Next were skills…

[Master of Negotiation Lv.3]—Your words become more convincing and persuasive.

Though the description was vague, the effect is certain. Even if I said something bullshit, the other person would think, 'Huh, is that so?' and reconsider.

I reaped plenty of benefits from this guy throughout my time so far.

The problem though was this bastard.

[Transmigration : Slave Trader]—You have transmigrated into Slave Trader Karami. Your soul has synchronized with Karami's.

This skill existed to help someone who lived in the 21st century like me adapt to this medieval-like world. It made me react with an 'Oh my' even if someone died right in front of me.

The bigger problem, though, was that it changed my way of speaking entirely. Instead of a simple 'Oh my', I ended up saying something like, 'Oh my, they've gone to meet their parents', complete with a characteristic wicked smile.

This thing put me through hell.

And it will continue to do so.

With nothing else to look at, I closed the window. That was when I noticed Mirabelle sitting across from me.

Her gaze traced a diagonal path to the ground with a gloomy expression not much different from when I first saw her at the slave market.

When I named her and made her wear the maid outfit, her reactions were so lively that I thought, 'Is this going to be easy?' But of course, that was only temporary. Mirabelle's emotional wounds wouldn't heal so easily.

But I didn't feel like leaving things as they were. After all, a beautiful young girl was most valuable when she was smiling. As her master, I should try to improve my slave's mood.

"I can see your panties when you sit like that."

"…"

Mirabelle quietly pressed her thighs together and looked at me like I was trash.

I shrugged my shoulders.

"Didn't I buy them for you anyway? There's no point in hiding them, I already know what color and pattern they are. Haha."

"T-This and that are different!"

Mirabelle shrieked the loudest I'd ever heard her so far.

This was much better to look at indeed.

TMI, but they're white lace.

"Miss Mirabelle, are you not curious about me? We'll be spending quite some time together, so it wouldn't hurt to know each other better."

"Quite some time…? Not forever?"

"Did you want to stay with me forever? Ahem, such a sudden confession is troubling…"

"…"

"I'm joking."

She looked ready to commit murder on the spot, so I felt compelled to apologize immediately.

"When you say for the time being… Are you going to k-kill me too?"

"Kill you? What a frightening thing to say."

"I know why people call you the Slave Reaper."

I don't think you do.

"Those slaves. What did you do to all of them?"

"Which slaves are you referring to?"

"The beastkin slaves. You bought dozens of them, didn't you?"

"Ahh, them. Of course I remember."

How could I forget?

They were my first slaves after transmigrating, and they became my ticket to a better life. I'd still be working at an inn if it weren't for them.

"I sent them to a… better place. Much better than the Traul Kingdom. I'm sure they're at peace now."

"Oh…"

"If I were to go there, don't you think those who went ahead would welcome me?"

I liked this story very much.

"They would welcome you. To pay you back for everything you've done to them."

"I sincerely hope so."

Then maybe I could live the rest of my life happily. Though of course, I would be going home.

After two more days of travel, the carriage finally arrived at Riveria.

***

"Halt. Do you have anything to prove your identity?"

The guard at the city gate asked in an official tone, to which I presented the ID issued by the Slave Traders' Association.

"Slave trader… Tch."

His expression soured upon seeing it. I was used to this reaction, so it didn't hurt anymore.

"Riveria is no place for the likes of you. Get lost."

"As far as I know, there's no regulation prohibiting slave traders from entering, is there?"

"You dare cite regulations to me, you slave trader scum? Leave while I'm still asking nicely. Don't you see the line behind you?"

Thump.

The guard roughly pushed my chest with his gauntlet, and my frail body swayed like a piece of paper.

How tiresome.

It was obvious why he was doing this. He desired money. He wanted me to hand over my dirty money earned through inhumane means.

Well, does dirty money become clean once it's in his pocket?

I'd like to say that, but I can't.

This world was survival of the fittest. A weakling like me couldn't stand up to a trained soldier, so I just put on a friendly smile and fumbled in my inner pocket.

"I understand perfectly well why you're doing this, sir. But what can I do? There's a noble waiting for me inside."

"Are you trying to threaten me?"

"Haha, of course not. I'm just saying we're all trying to make a living. Here, it's not much, but please accept my sincerity. I've included enough for your colleagues as well."

I handed the guard a money pouch containing twenty gold coins. His eyes widened when he checked the inside.

A soldier's monthly salary was roughly 10 gold. I had paid twice that amount just as a passage fee, so of course he was surprised. It was an excessive amount, but paying this much meant they wouldn't ask for more later.

I hate being bothered.

The soldier, unable to hide his surprise, turned his gaze back to me, and I gave him a light smile.

"May I enter now? The noble will be waiting."

"Huh? Uh, o-of course. We can't keep a noble waiting. Go on in."

"Thank you."

The guard stepped aside, and I entered the city gate with leisurely steps, hands behind my back. Mirabelle followed close behind.

"How much did you give him?"

"Twenty gold coins."

"T-Twenty gold coins?"

Mirabelle counted on her delicate fingers, trying to grasp how much that was. She mumbled, "One loaf of bread a day, two, three…" Then let out a shrill "Eek!"

I chuckled at her cute reaction.

"Why are you so surprised? You are worth a thousand gold, Miss Mirabelle."

"A th-thousand…"

Mirabelle's expression grew distant when faced with the astronomical sum. Her fingers stopped moving, having given up on counting, while her mind seemed to have already drifted off to Andromeda.

***

The first thing you should do is secure lodging when you arrive in a new city. It would be troublesome if we dawdled and couldn't find a place to stay.

Given that the medieval era had worse public safety than even South America, sleeping on the streets was out of the question unless you had a death wish.

The inn I chose is called The Mage's Rest, located near the main street. As expected of the City of Magic, even the inn's name was on theme.

For reference, I booked a double room.

It had two single beds.

A master and slave would typically share a single room, with the slave relegated to the floor. But who was I? A gentleman among gentlemen. I simply couldn't let my lovely slave sleep on the cold, hard floor.

"Miss Mirabelle, you can sleep on that bed."

"M-Me too…?"

"Indeed. It would bother me if you slept on the floor. We need to wake up early tomorrow, so don't stay up too late. Well then, I'm going to bed now. I'm tired from the long carriage ride."

I took off my shoes and lay down on the bed. I felt like someone was watching me, but after a while, the candle was extinguished, and the feeling disappeared.

***

At the same time Karami and his companion were settling down to sleep in Riveria…

"T-The young lady is gone!"

"Where could she have gone? She was in her room just a moment ago!"

"Narsha! Where are you!"

The Bryan Count's mansion was in chaos. Narsha, who had only just returned to her family after two years, had vanished in the dead of night. Once again, the entire household was plunged into turmoil.

"…"

Not far from the mansion, on a tree bathed in moonlight, a woman was looking down at the estate.

Her name was Narsha Bryan, and once again she offered an unheard apology.

"Mother, Father. I'm sorry."

But she couldn't imagine a life without that man.

While the world may look down on Karami by calling him a Grim Reaper, Narsha knew. That he was the opposite of what people think.

And that he was a loner with no one to rely on.

Narsha believed she needed to be by his side. Clutching the sword she took from her family, she turned her back.

"Wait for me, Master."

Though she did not understand why he left her here, there must have been some sort of unavoidable circumstances. After all, he was someone who saw things that others couldn't even begin to fathom.

Of course, it hurt me. No matter the circumstance, how could he have left me without a word between us? When I meet him, I'll ask him for sure.

Until then, I'm coming. To keep our promise to be together forever.

With a side of revenge for leaving me behind, as well.
