The Witcher: Lord of the Empire

Chapter 154: The Lion’s New Follower

Before assigning the necessary tasks to his assistants, Lann had one more thing to do.

Looking at the three attendants in front of him, Milva, House, and Levin.

Lann called out to the only one who didn't have a [Follower] panel. "Levin, come out, kneel on one knee."

The servant, who had already heard the rumors about the lion pack, opened his eyes in surprise and excitement. He looked at his two companions, who returned encouraging glances.

Yes, the ability point he had gained with the recent update, Lann had no intention of immediately using it on abilities. Instead, he would open a new follower panel for Levin.

This brave warrior, who had fought griffins as a mere mortal and had established good relations with the dryads, would be the future mayor of Brokilon. Levin had already earned Lann's recognition.

Lann said solemnly: "I believe you have heard some rumors, and I can tell you now with certainty that they are all true. Levin Bloth, you have my approval, and I will accept you as a member of my lion pack. From now on, you will be able to gain strength from punishing evil and supporting the weak."

Levin's face flushed with excitement. "With my life, I will answer your trust, until my last breath!"

Using an ability point to open a new follower panel, Lann placed his hand on Levin's head. The experience points decreased slightly.

[Ability point +1]

Although Levin did not have innate talent like Milva or Ace, he had many skills.

His skills with the sword and bow, as well as his survival and exploration abilities acquired in the Brokilon forest, were remarkable. He had also been the one who discovered the Verden soldiers' plan to pose as dryads to ambush travelers.

What is more valuable is that he also has certain diplomatic and management skills.

He's a talent. Lann planned to give him more responsibilities once they restored the kingdom.

Meanwhile, Levin felt a revitalizing current running through him. Fatigue disappeared, and old injuries and hidden problems from his childhood vanished. All his skills learned in the past emerged clearly in his mind.

Although he had always decided to follow Lann, he now viewed his lord with even more admiration and respect.

Seeing Levin's reaction, Lann smiled with satisfaction.

Lann then had the three assistants come forward to assign them the mission for the day. "I have a task for you to complete."

All three of them adopted serious expressions.

"It's not a combat mission, at least not yet. I need you to go to the Borsody Auction House and get an item called the Maximilian Borsodi's house. It's a model of a house. It's very important to the Borsodi family, but I need it. Try to negotiate a price first. If that's not possible, come back and we'll discuss the next steps."

"House, you will lead the team. Take ten soldiers. This is a diplomatic mission, and I trust you because of your background in the royal court."

"Levin, learn from him. You are talented, and I hope to entrust you with great responsibilities in the future."

"The Borsodi family is a local force. I will communicate with Chappelle of the Eternal Fire to see if I can give you some help."

Lann hadn't mentioned the Master Mirror to anyone else, so the three of them couldn't understand why their lord wanted so much the model of a house that seemed to be a family treasure.

But they would never question the earl's orders, so they firmly assured that they would not disappoint his trust.

Lann encouraged them once more before dismissing them to prepare for the mission.

Lann was soon the only one left in the room. He thought for a moment and opened the system panel to assign the ability point.

Add points - [Sign] branch, [Igni Sign] subcategory - [Melt Armor]!

[Melt Armor]: Damage dealt by Igni also permanently weakens enemy armor. The effect scales with Sign intensity. (2/5)

This meant that using the [Igni Sign] when attacking would also apply a debuff to the enemy. Under the influence of [Magic Tide], this ability directly leveled up to level two.

At that moment, the [Griffin School Contact Notes] that Lann carried in his bag began to vibrate.

Jerome replied.

...

Leaving his residence, Lann rode alone to an uninhabited area. This was a lighthouse on the coast. Jerome gave this location in the letter.

The Griffin medallion vibrated, and a strong wind suddenly blew in front of Lann.

A portal opened, but Lann sensed something strange in the chaotic energy in the air.

He was no longer unfamiliar with portals, and he was especially familiar with Jerome's portals.

Each portal had slight differences depending on the sorcerer who cast it, and the one in front of him… didn't seem to be Jerome's.

In Lann's puzzled and somewhat wary eyes, two figures emerged from the portal.

One was a female sorceress with flaming red hair and dressed as a traveler.

The other was a grey-bearded druid, dressed in a sealskin robe and carrying an oaken staff.

After exiting the portal, they briefly examined their surroundings and soon their eyes fell on Lann.

"Uncle Mousesack, Triss." Lann opened his eyes wide in surprise. "Why are you here?"

He went forward and hugged the two enthusiastically. He really didn't expect to wait for the support of these two people.

Mousesack looked Lann up and down. After not seeing him for a long time, he felt that this child he had watched grow up had become more mature, and the druid was full of relief.

"In addition to the letters you wrote to me, I have always been in contact with Jerome. I often communicate with him about your recent situation. The communication method of the Griffin School is really convenient."

Mousesack sighed. “I heard that you were planning to confine a large magical creature for a long time. Hearing this, Jerome immediately recalled the [Artefact compression] spell. Unfortunately, he himself cannot cast it yet. Although he has awakened his constitution as a Source, his mastery of the spell is…”

The old druid smiled weakly and stroked his beard. "So he contacted me immediately, and Triss happened to be there, so I came with her."

Triss had stood politely to the side while Mousesack spoke, smiling all the while.

During the hug with Lann, she had been especially affectionate.

As Mousesack gestured towards her, Triss spoke: “Things in Aretuza are a bit quieter for now. Recently, I’ve been helping out in Brokilon. When I heard you needed someone to cast the [Artefact compression], I came.”

Mousesack nodded and added: “Triss is the one who will help you the most this time. I can’t be away from Brokilon for long. I came to see you and give you some advice. In addition to helping you confine the creature, we want to try to teach you this spell.”

Lann was stunned.

Seeing Lann's confused look, Mousesack smiled. "Your Elder Blood has long been awakened, which is a powerful force beyond ordinary magic sources. But you have been busy with various political affairs and have not been able to systematically learn magic knowledge. This is a pity."

Lann looked at Triss, who was smiling with narrowed eyes, and pointed at himself. "So this time Triss came here to be my teacher?"

"It won't take too long." Although Triss was smiling, there was still a trace of regret in her tone. “Brokilon Town, Aretuza, Kaer Morhen. I’ve been traveling a lot. Although I would like to stay with you, I prefer to make the most of my time and help Cintra.”

"Thank you for your hard work when I was away, Uncle Mousesack, Triss." Lann thanked sincerely, and then hurriedly said: “Now I will take you to my accommodation so we can talk calmly.”

The two nodded and followed him without objection.

...

In a house on the outskirts of Temple Island, Lann briefly shared with Mousesack and Triss what had happened since his departure and the current situation.

Of course, he omitted any mention of the Master Mirror.

After learning the whole situation, Mousesack thought for a long time before saying: "Vizimir II is a valuable ally, but he surely has his own intentions. You must be careful with him. As for Rience..."

Lanen added: "Rience is not the problem, the worrying thing is who is behind him: Vilgefortz."

Lanen had already discussed this topic with Mousesack in Brokilon Town, using as an excuse his prophetic dreams due to his Elder Blood.

Seeing the worried eyes of the two, Lann took the initiative to comfort them: "Everything is under control for now. If Vilgefortz sends his minions, it means he doesn't want to reveal his identity yet. A failed sorcerer like Rience can't be a real threat to me. If I beat him once, I can do it again."

"When I return to Aretuza, I will observe the situation closely," Triss said with concern. "After all, we are talking about Vilgefortz."

Temeria, Redania, Vilgefortz, Nilfgaard... Mousesack knew Lann was dealing with many forces, and there were probably more he didn't know about.

The old druid shook his head and felt more and more distressed for Lann.
