Chapter 44 Unlocked Memories
After a few minutes of further discussion, Aleshia and the hat reached a consensus. The hat concluded their dialogue by saying, "Until Kailey's soul is healed and reconnected with the mind, the chance her body will be able to function without being used will be very slim. But since we have another driver in the seat, you, Aleshia. The body should be able to carry out its normal functions without weakening or atrophy. We should be thankful that you could throw the Tome away from her hands before she was too deep into reading it. We should probably let Kailey recover on her own for a while. If we try something now, we could lose her since I don't know much about healing broken souls. In the meantime, how about we discuss how some of my memories were unlocked?"
The atmosphere in the room took on a subtle shift the moment the hat spoke those words. After a few moments of silence, Aleshia tried to understand what it meant but still did not understand. She asked the hat to elaborate since she did not understand what it meant. "What do you mean by memories unlocked? I am certain I have never met you before today." The hat was momentarily puzzled by Aleshia's reply but swiftly recovered and proceeded to explain why it said those words.
"I assumed that you wouldn't know. Let me explain. When Kailey mentioned that she believed she was soul-bonded with you, I initially thought it was impossible since she was unconscious inside this place. I knew there shouldn't have been any other sentient creatures besides me and her to contract with. However, when I investigated whether there was a soul link between Kailey and you, I was surprised to indeed find one. What she claimed was right. However, when I approached to examine it, your soul must have perceived my presence as a threat and tried to attack me. When I defended myself, something seemed to have latched onto me, traveling through Kailey's mana circuitry and into my mind, where it uncovered some of my memories."
Aleshia listened attentively to the witch's hat as it explained why it had made its previous assertion. What she heard baffled her. She now understood why the witch's hat asked that question, as her soul somehow unlocked the hat's sealed-away memories. With these thoughts swirling inside her mind, she had to sit back down to reorganize herself.
