Realm's Periphery
Chapter 78 Realm's Periphery
Aleshia poked at the brush with her stick, and the leaves began to sway as if they were still in motion. After a while, they began to stay still again. 'This might have stopped moving because of the strange space, or it's because of the law of inertia,' Aleshia thought as she dug up a clump of mud and threw it upward. The clump of dirt flew in the air, but as it began falling, it slowed down. Just as it neared her head, it bounced upward, then abruptly stopped moving altogether for no apparent reason. The clump of dirt was now an arm's length above her, and when she grabbed it, it completely fell apart, as if it had absorbed all the momentum all at once.
She wiped away the dirt covering her with her arm and gathered more dirt. She made another dirt ball, but this time, she strengthened herself with her magic and chucked it harder into the air. The dirt ball rapidly flew up in the air and came back down. Aleshia moved away a bit from the falling ball. As it reached the previous dirt ball's height, it bounced and abruptly stopped, just like the dirt ball previously.
Aleshia walked up to the dirt ball and was about to touch it again, but then remembered the previous outcome. She looked at the stick in her hand but decided it was too short. She began searching for a longer stick on the ground and, after a few minutes, found one that was twice the length of her arm. Aleshia brandished the stick like a swordsman and lightly swung down on the dirt ball. Upon contact, the ball immediately exploded into a cloud of dirt. Even though Aleshia was at the farthest point from the explosion, she was still at the periphery and got hit by some of the flying debris. The force of the blast sent her flying backward and out of the strange realm. After composing herself and clearing the dirt off, she found that she was back to where she was before entering the strange area. "Well, that certainly was not something I was expecting," she said excitedly. Aleshia walked toward the furrows in the ground, passed them, and a few seconds later found herself right back where she had started.
"I might be able to find out more if I experiment on the periphery of this realm," Aleshia thought as she marked the periphery to the realm with the stick she had been holding. Then she picked up another clump of dirt and threw it past the marked spot. She witnessed it disappear from her view. Intrigued, she ventured to the other side and found the dirt had collapsed into a small heap on the ground. After this discovery, she made another lump of dirt on her side and tossed it to the other side, where she found it in suspended animation in mid-air. "This is a neat thing to know," Aleshia remarked. When she grabbed onto it, the ball did not collapse in her hand and maintained its shape. "Judging by this one not becoming dust or collapsing, I can assume it keeps its momentum," she postulated.
