The Witch Hat's Quest for Curse Curing Magic

Afraid of Little ol' Me?

Chapter 57 Afraid of Little ol' Me?

"Oh? So these wolves can speak." Lucia said it with curiosity in her voice. She looked around the group and noticed the other four wolves trembling quietly. She wondered, 'Well, it seems the only one available to speak with me now is the one in front. But why are they afraid of little ol' me?' Puzzled, Lucia began examining herself. She melded a thread of consciousness away from the witch hat and turned to observe. 'Oh, so that's what I look like. Hmm, quite scary if I say so myself.' she thought with a light chuckle. The image Lucia saw at first was just of some ordinary hat, albeit one tailored for witches. But as her threaded consciousness pervaded the minds of the wolves before her, Lucia eventually started to see an aura of undulating, monstrous darkness around the witch hat she inhabited. Similar to the aura of corruption and death the undead produced.

As Lucia inspected her witch hat, she felt a sudden pull on her consciousness. She sensed the danger of several unseen entities from another plane of existence attempting to slip into her consciousness. Lucia frantically tried to recover the thread of consciousness before it was too late. When the thread re-entered her mind, she immediately sealed it away in the recesses of her mind. After a brief moment of calm, Lucia remembered her prior engagement before she was overwhelmed by the impending danger. She struggled to recall why she wanted to interact with these wolves. Just then, a fleeting thought from the previous few seconds glowed in the back of her mind.

'The way that wolf spoke didn't seem to be fluent human. Still, if I am to speak with the wolf, it should be when we can both fluently understand each other. It would be too bizarre and uncanny to speak with a wolf that gives off such an air of confidence with its limited human vocabulary. I might as well go into their heads and learn some of their native tongue.' Lucia recalled the passing thought and started projecting her consciousness again, now with added layers of protection.

The consciousness appeared as an unnoticeable, faintly glowing thread with tiny, delicately crafted hexagrams covering the thread. It snaked through the air like a Will-o'-the-Wisp. As the glowing thread reached the leading wolf, it quickly bounded back to its group as if it instinctively sensed something was wrong. The wolf then shouted with indignation at the witch hat, "Monster! What are you planning with this strange ambush?"
