Chapter 7 part 1
Chapter 7 part 1
As Lynet spoke with a smile, Kenneth initially thought she was just saying those words to garner his attention. However, he soon realized that wasn’t the case.
“Just pack the essentials into boxes.”
“Miss, are you really leaving this house?”
“Of course, there’s no reason to stay here pretending. Katrine, don’t worry, I’ve arranged a place for us outside.”
Although Lynet told Katrine not to worry, Kenneth couldn’t help but worry. She didn’t pack expensive jewelry and dresses in boxes, fearing they might be stolen. Katrine only packed simple clothes and money that could be easily carried.
“What about me, Miss? What should I do?”
“What else, Katrine? You’re my maid, so naturally you’ll come with me. If you don’t want to, you can stay here.”
“No, miss, you’re not going to leave me; of course I’m coming with you.”
Katrine had no desire to stay in this house without Lynet, so she packed her things too and smiled with satisfaction when she saw how much she had packed into the boxes.
“Hey! Are you really leaving this house?”
Even though he had heard that she was going to the palace today, Edgar asked, eyes wide open.
“Yeah, I’m leaving.”
“Are you crazy? What if something dangerous happens when you go outside? Just stay here and do whatever you want.”
“I’m going to live my life from now on, and you can live here and do whatever you want. So, step aside. I’m busy packing.”
Although Lynet hadn’t often come to this place until she was fifteen, she could understand why. At that time, Lynet was attending the academy and used studying and training as an excuse not to come home, even on weekends. Lynet had lived a considerable distance from home, only occasionally visiting once a year.
Seeing Lynet, who seemed to have lost affection for this place, Edgar sighed inwardly.
“Lynet, I know you’re disappointed in me and Father, but it’s not right to use this method. You should express your anger or do whatever you want at home.”
“When I needed you in the past, you pretended not to see me. So, I hope you keep that attitude until the end.”
It was Lynet who was always scolded by her father whenever she clashed with Esther. Sometimes she’d send Edgar a look for help, but he’d always pretend not to see it. She hated her father for hitting her, but she hated Edgar for pretending not to see it.
“If you listen when I speak for once…”
“I’ve never been your sister. You never paid attention when I asked for help or anything.”
Due to her outspoken personality, Lynet often clashed with boys. Despite fighting and arguing, Edgar, her only brother, always just brushed it off. He only complained about getting hurt, and Edgar never paid attention to things like fights among children.
“Lynet, that’s…”
“It’s too late for excuses. So, just let me go. Oh, give this to the birds here every morning. This is a bird feeder. Well, I’m busy, so I’ll go now.”
After telling Edgar to give the feeder to the birds, Lynet pushed him out and called someone to move the boxes to the new address.
“What should I do with this?”
Looking at the teddy bear on the bed, Lynet pondered for a moment. Seeing this, Katrine took the teddy bear and went outside. With everything resolved without needing to worry, Lynet went outside, and Kenneth rushed over to her.
“Lynet, really…”
“Goodbye.”
Lynet gave a brief farewell and turned away. Acting as if she had let go of all regrets, Lynet’s action prompted Kenneth to quickly reach out and grab Lynet’s wrist.
“Lynet, no matter what, this isn’t right. I know it’s filled with things you don’t like, but it’s still better to deal with them at home. It wouldn’t be good if others found out.”
“Even at this moment, Father seems more concerned about what others think.”
“It’s inevitable for people to be like that as they live. Especially for nobles like us, once our reputation declines, it’s hard to restore it.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll pretend not to see Father if I encounter him outside, so don’t worry. And our reputation hit rock bottom a long time ago.”
With a bitter smile, Lynet pushed away Kenneth’s hand and boarded the waiting carriage right away.
“Just in case, I’m telling you, don’t come barging into where I live. Otherwise, I’ll move to an even deeper and dirtier place.”
Lynet smiled and closed the carriage window. Then she smiled at Katrine and signaled for them to start.
“Are you sure we can go? You’ve received your dowry……. Wasn’t that a gesture of forgiveness from the Lord?”
“Just having money won’t heal the wounds I’ve endured all this time. I’d rather live a little further away for now.”
The decision was made that it would be better to stay out of the house for a while than to live uncomfortably in the same one.
“Miss, the House of Pruina is gradually getting smaller.”
“Don’t worry. Even if it gets smaller, it’s still there; it’s not going anywhere.”
As they distanced themselves from the House of Pruina, Lynet clenched her fists and closed her eyes. If it weren’t for the problems with Fernando and Esther, the House of Pruina would have been bustling by now.
Lynet and Edgar would argue, while Esther would sip her tea arrogantly and watch. Kenneth would shake his head, wondering when they would grow up.
That was the usual scene at Pruina Manor. Lynet realized that what she once considered everyday happiness was nothing but an illusion. The affair between her fiancé and her sister had crossed the line of forgiveness.
“Dum spiro spero”
