Chapter 57: Chapter 57: The initial recording reveals a cloud of doubt
As the footsteps approached, Dai Shiya held her breath and hid herself deeper in the shadows. At the end of the corridor, a familiar figure appeared - Wei Qing, who was walking hurriedly, looking anxious, and holding a laptop in her hand.
Seeing Wei Qing, Dai Shiya felt relieved. She rushed over as if she had grabbed a life-saving straw and pulled her to hide in the storage room next door.
"Why are you here? It's too dangerous!" Dai Shiya lowered her voice and said hurriedly.
"I found something." Wei Qing opened her laptop and pointed to the floor plan on the screen. "Look, this is the structural diagram of the family mansion. I found an abandoned ventilation duct behind the monitoring room that leads directly to the utility room next to your room."
Dai Shiya looked at the blueprint, and a glimmer of hope ignited in her heart. If she could enter the monitoring room through this secret passage, she could avoid the bodyguards at the door.
"But," Wei Qing pointed to a red dot on the drawing with a serious look, "This pipeline has been in disrepair for a long time. I'm worried..."
Dai Shiya understood what she meant. This secret passage had been in disrepair for many years and could collapse at any time. Entering it would be like stepping into an unknown trap.
"There is no other way." Dai Shiya took a deep breath, her eyes determined, "I must get the surveillance video, even if it's risky, it's worth it."
Wei Qing nodded and looked at her worriedly: "Then be careful, I'll meet you outside."
Dai Shiya returned to the room, found a flashlight and a screwdriver from the toolbox, and then quietly sneaked into the utility room next door. Following Wei Qing's instructions, she found the dust-covered vent in the corner.
Dai Shiya used a screwdriver to pry open the vent, and a musty smell hit her face. She held her breath, bent over and crawled in, and the darkness swallowed her in an instant.
It was pitch dark in the narrow pipe. Dai Shiya turned on the flashlight, and the weak light illuminated a small area in front. The pipe was full of dust and spider webs, and it made a "creaking" sound with every step, as if it would collapse at any time.
Dai Shiya didn't dare to think too much. She stuck close to the pipe wall and moved forward cautiously. The sound of her heartbeat echoed in the silent pipe, as deafening as a drum...
After an unknown amount of time, a faint light appeared ahead. Dai Shiya was delighted and quickened her pace.
With a "click", a piece of metal plate suddenly fell. Dai Shiya's feet were empty. She screamed and her body fell rapidly. She instinctively reached out and grabbed, her fingertips scratched the cold metal pipe, but she couldn't grab anything. The feeling of falling lasted only a few seconds, but it felt like a century. With a dull "bang", Dai Shiya fell heavily to the ground, and a sharp pain came from her ankle.
She gritted her teeth, endured the pain, and shone the flashlight around. This seemed to be an abandoned storage room, and the air was filled with the smell of dust. Dai Shiya struggled to stand up and found that her ankle was sprained. The excruciating pain made her sweat. But she didn't dare to delay, and limped to the door and gently pushed open the half-closed door.
Outside the door is the monitoring room.
Dai Shiya carefully looked around and made sure that no one else was there before slipping in. The light in the monitoring room was dim, and rows of screens were flashing with faint blue light, and the monitoring images were playing silently on them. Dai Shiya walked to the main control console and began to carefully check each device.
She found that many of the interfaces of the monitoring equipment had signs of being pried, and some of the connecting wires were also obviously worn. Dai Shiya's heart sank. It was obvious that someone had deliberately hacked into the monitoring system. She took a deep breath, forced herself to calm down, and continued to check.
In a corner of a pile of new equipment, Dai Shiya found an old surveillance video recorder, which was almost forgotten in the corner and covered with dust. She was moved, and her intuition told her that this inconspicuous device might hide important clues.
Dai Shiya carefully opened the VCR, but found it was empty, without any videotapes. She did not give up and began to check the internal structure of the VCR. When she opened the hard disk box, she found obvious burn marks on the data interface of the hard disk.
"Someone tried to destroy the data!" Dai Shiya said in her heart.
She connected the hard drive to her laptop and started the data recovery software. A progress bar began to appear on the screen, moving slowly, and each advance seemed to challenge her patience. Time passed by minute by minute, and Dai Shiya stared at the screen nervously, sweat oozing from her palms.
Finally, the progress bar reached the end, and the software prompted that some data fragments had been restored. Dai Shiya immediately clicked to check. Although these fragmented data were incomplete, some images could be vaguely seen.
One clip showed a blurry figure walking stealthily in the corridor, holding something in his hand. Another clip showed someone operating equipment in the monitoring room, but the picture flashed by and it was unclear who it was.
Although these clips were blurry and incomplete, Dai Shiya already had the answer in her mind. These deleted data fragments were the key evidence of her slander! She immediately copied these data fragments to her USB drive, and then carefully restored the recorder to its original state.
Just then, she heard a burst of hurried footsteps coming from far away...
"Damn it, they're coming!" Wei Qing's voice came from the headset, with a hint of panic, "I saw Dai Hua leading people towards the monitoring room!"
Dai Shiya's face changed, "..." Dai Shiya's face changed, her heart beat like a drum. Without time to think, she quickly closed her laptop, stuffed it into her backpack, and limped behind a huge equipment cabinet in the corner of the monitoring room. The cabinet door was ajar, leaving only a narrow gap for her to observe the situation outside.
Almost at the same time as she hid, the door of the monitoring room was pushed open. Dai Hua walked in aggressively with two security guards, with obvious anxiety and anger on their faces.
"Search carefully! Don't miss any corner!" Dai Hua ordered sternly, his eyes scanning every corner of the monitoring room like a hawk. "I want to see who dares to do something wrong here!"
The two security guards immediately separated and began a carpet search. Dai Shiya held her breath and dared not move, for fear of making any sound. The cold metal shell of the equipment cabinet pressed against her skin, making her feel cold.
At this moment, Dai Yong also walked in, his brows furrowed, with a hint of confusion on his face. "Brother, why did you call me here so anxiously? What happened?"
"Someone hacked into the surveillance system!" Dai Hua pointed at the prying marks on the interface of the surveillance equipment, with a hint of barely perceptible panic in his tone, "I suspect someone wants to destroy the evidence!"
Dai Yong walked to the monitoring station and checked it carefully. He then went around the corner and saw the old video recorder. He reached out and touched the dust on the video recorder, frowning even more. "Why is this antique still here? I remember it should have been eliminated a long time ago."
"Who knows? Maybe some careless guy forgot to deal with it." Dai Hua waved his hand impatiently. "Anyway, the most important thing now is to find the intruder and find out who is behind this!"
Dai Yong was not affected by Dai Hua's anxiety. He squatted down and carefully checked the video recorder. He found that the screws of the hard disk box had fresh marks of twisting, which made him suspicious. He raised his head and stared at Dai Hua sharply, "Brother, are you sure that someone just hacked into the system and not trying to cover up something?"
Dai Hua's expression changed slightly, his eyes flickered, but he quickly regained his composure. "What do you mean? What am I covering up? I'm the victim!"
Dai Yong did not speak, but silently rechecked the video recorder, then stood up and patted the dust off his hands. "I hope so." His tone was calm, but there was a hint of doubt and inquiry in his eyes.
After the two security guards finished the search, they walked up to Dai Hua and shook their heads, "Boss Dai, we didn't find anyone."
Dai Hua rubbed his temple irritably, "Keep investigating! We must find that sneaky guy!"
Dai Shiya hid in the equipment cabinet, listening to the noise outside, feeling extremely nervous. She knew that Dai Hua's actions further proved her guess - he was indeed trying to cover up something. She had to find more powerful evidence as soon as possible to expose Dai Hua's true face.
At this moment, Dai Yong's eyes suddenly turned to the equipment cabinet where Dai Shiya was hiding. He slowly walked over, stretched out his hand... and stopped in front of the cabinet door. "Behind this..."
Dai Shiya's heart almost jumped out of her throat. She bit her lips tightly to prevent herself from making any sound. The gap between the equipment cabinets was very small, but she could still see Dai Yong's leather shoes stopped less than half a meter away from her.
Did he find out? Was he trying to trick her? All sorts of thoughts flashed through Dai Shiya's mind. She tightly grasped the USB drive hidden behind her, her palms full of cold sweat.
Dai Yong's eyes stayed on the equipment cabinet for a few seconds, as if hesitating whether to open it. Dai Shiya could even feel the warmth of his eyes, as if an X-ray was trying to see through her.
"Brother Yong, what are you looking at? There are only abandoned equipment in here, nothing to see." Dai Hua's impatient voice came from the control console, interrupting the suffocating silence.
Dai Yong didn't say anything. He retracted his gaze and turned to walk towards Dai Hua. "I just find it strange. If it is discarded equipment, why don't you dispose of it? Instead, you pile it up here and take up space?"
"This..." Dai Hua was speechless for a moment. He couldn't say that he kept this monitoring room and these old equipment just to hide his tracks.
"Maybe the person in charge was negligent." Dai Hua said vaguely, "Let's find out the matter of the intruder first."
Dai Yong did not ask any more questions, but there was a hint of suspicion and scrutiny in the look he gave Dai Hua.
Dai Shiya hid in the equipment cabinet, listening to the conversation between the two, and felt a little relieved. It seemed that Dai Yong did not discover her, but she knew that she could not let her guard down yet.
She held the USB drive tightly in her hand and swore secretly in her heart: Dai Hua, I will definitely find evidence and expose your true face!
The search outside was still going on, and Dai Shiya knew she had to leave here as soon as possible. She quietly took out her cell phone and sent a text message to Wei Qing: "Come to the monitoring room quickly, there is a discovery!"
Time passed by minute by minute, and Dai Shiya hid in the equipment cabinet, feeling that every second was extremely long. She didn't know when Wei Qing would arrive, nor did she know how long she could hold on.
Suddenly, the door of the monitoring room was pushed open again. Dai Shiya's heart tightened suddenly. She looked through the gap in the equipment cabinet and saw a familiar figure walking in... It was Wei Qing!
