The Weakest Hunter In Nigeria

Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Shadows and Betrayal III

The following morning, Olutola woke with a sense of purpose. He rolled out of bed, stretched, and prepared himself for the day ahead. The encounter with the rogue hunter weighed heavily on his mind. He knew that to uncover the truth, he had to dig deeper into the mysteries of the dungeons.

He met Mei, Lei, and Adebayo at a bustling café in Victoria Island. The air was filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the lively chatter of early morning patrons.

"Morning," Olutola greeted as he joined them at their table.

"Morning," they replied in unison.

Adebayo leaned in, lowering his voice. "Any news on the rogue hunter?"

Olutola shook his head. "Not yet. But I've been thinking. We need to find out who sent him and why. There's more going on here than we realize."

Mei nodded. "Agreed. But we can't rush into this blindly. We need a plan."

Just then, their attention was drawn to a commotion outside the café. A group of young men were arguing with a street vendor over the price of suya. The vendor, an elderly man with a weathered face, was clearly distressed.

"Let's check it out," Olutola said, already on his feet.

As they approached, they could hear the young men shouting. "This is robbery! You're charging too much!"

The vendor tried to defend himself. "Please, this is fair price. I'm just trying to make a living."

One of the young men reached out, attempting to grab the tray of suya. Olutola's hand shot out, gripping the man's wrist with a strength that belied his calm demeanor.

"Let go," he said, his voice cold and authoritative.

The young man looked up, eyes widening as he recognized Olutola. "Hey, man, we don't want any trouble."

Olutola released his grip, but his gaze remained steady. "Then leave the man alone. Pay for what you took or walk away."

The group exchanged uneasy glances before dropping some crumpled bills on the vendor's tray and hurrying off.

The vendor sighed in relief. "Thank you, sir. You saved me."

Olutola nodded. "Just doing what's right."

As they returned to their table, Adebayo chuckled. "Always the hero, huh?"

Olutola shrugged. "Can't help it. Now, back to business. We need to gather information. Adebayo, I want you to talk to your contacts. See if anyone knows anything about rogue hunters."

Mei leaned forward. "And what about us?"

"We're going to the dungeon again," Olutola said. "There's something down there. Something we missed."

---

Later that day, Olutola, Mei, and Lei stood at the entrance of the dungeon. The shadows seemed to beckon them in, and Olutola felt a strange pull. He knew he had to uncover its secrets.

They descended into the darkness, their footsteps echoing off the stone walls. The air grew colder, and the tension between them was palpable. As they ventured deeper, Olutola's senses heightened. He could feel the presence of the shadows, whispering to him.

Suddenly, the ground trembled, and a section of the wall crumbled, revealing a hidden passage.

"Did you see that?" Mei whispered, eyes wide.

Olutola nodded. "Let's check it out."

They entered the passage, the air growing even colder. The whispers grew louder, and Olutola could feel the shadows swirling around him. His heart pounded in his chest, but he pressed on, driven by an unyielding determination.

At the end of the passage, they found a massive door, adorned with strange runes. Olutola reached out, touching the cold surface. The runes glowed, and the door slowly creaked open.

Inside, they found a chamber filled with ancient relics and inscriptions. Olutola's eyes were drawn to a pedestal in the center, where a strange artifact rested.

"What is this place?" Lei murmured, awe in her voice.

Olutola approached the pedestal, feeling the power emanating from the artifact. He knew this was what they had been searching for.

"This," he said, "is just the beginning."
