Chapter 270 David Stern and Adam Silver's Bet_8
Trouble containing them.
When the Boston Celtics' attention was all on the two of them, Dior's slight flick of the wrist meant that Paul George, who hadn't touched the ball yet this game, grabbed it and raised his hand for a three-point shot.
"Clang!"
The shot was on line.
So, even though it bounced out of the basket, it still scared the hell out of the Celtics' assistant coaches sitting on the bench.
They had just called a timeout, specifically to make defensive adjustments against the Knicks' three-pointers.
If the Knicks had hit their third three-pointer right away, especially one scored by someone other than Su Wan or Curry, it would have definitely been a blow to their morale.
Thank goodness it didn't...
"Bang!"
Before they could breathe a sigh of relief, Tyson Chandler grabbed the ball flying out and slammed it into the basket.
The arena erupted into pieces.
Cheering wave after wave.
The New York Knicks' scoring tonight was just...
Fierce!
Even the New York fans didn't expect the home team to come out shooting so aggressively tonight.
Rivers held back his impulse to call another timeout, and Kevin Garnett tried to go one-on-one with the ball.
While Dior stood his ground, Su Wan came over to help and forced the ball out of his hands.
For the rest of the time, the ball just kept moving outside the Celtics' three-point line, and they couldn't get inside.
With the final three seconds ticking down and no offensive opportunity, Rajon Rondo forced a breakthrough, but the shot didn't make it in.
Su Wan calmly grabbed the rebound.
Dior sprinted out from his side, and he quickly tossed the ball in that direction.
Dior caught the ball and launched a long toss.
"Bang!"
Paul George showcased his elegant dunk.
Now, all of the New York Knicks' starters had scored, except for Dior.
And while Dior hadn't scored, he had 4 assists.
Rivers shook his "pig head" and called the second timeout of the first quarter, with less than 3 minutes into the game.
The live commentator, excited by the double-digit difference in the score, said, "We all know a lot has happened this summer, the League went into a lockout, and the players got plenty of rest time, which made us worry about what kind of condition the New York Knicks would start the new season in. Now, in the first three minutes of the first quarter, they've given us the answer, declaring they're ready to defend their title in the new season!"
The crowd in the stands stirred again.
The New York fans were now completely at ease.
Just like the live commentator said.
They had been worried that the long offseason might ruin the Knicks' bright future.
A worry not unfamiliar to New York's past.
But now, it seemed to be really different.
The long offseason hadn't made them worse; instead, it seemed to have made them better.
Boston's adjustment did have some effect, at least the first possession saw Paul Pierce reply with a three-pointer from outside the line.
This three-pointer was indeed a morale booster.
But the problem was...
Three-pointers were like an "Immortal Pill" for the Boston Celtics, a life-saving measure, but for the Knicks, they were just everyday occurrences.
It was still the Dior-at-the-top-of-the-arc strategy, with the runs by Su Wan and Curry on both sides, which caused a lot of trouble for the Celtics' defense.
Eventually, when both sides went for the tackle, Dior, without any hesitation in the face of the wide-open Celtics' defense, raised his hand for a three-point shot.
He had aimed for a long time on this three-pointer.
So the ball dropped steadily into the basket.
This was simply no contest!
As Dior also hit a three-pointer, the same thought rose unanimously in the minds of the Celtics:
Shoot!
The Celtics, who had been very spirited, began to lose their fighting spirit.
The Knicks, on the other hand, didn't care about them at all and continued to orderly execute their tactics.
By the 8:34 mark of the first quarter, the score had been widened to a 15-point lead.
D'Antoni was all smiles.
By this point, the Knicks had sunk 6 three-pointers, and for him, there was no better sight than his team's smooth three-point shooting while holding a large lead.
New York made the first substitutions.
One would have thought that when Su Wan and others went off, the Knicks' firepower might decrease a little, but Vince Carter and Ray Allen, especially, were also in great form, with "God Sniper" Allen hitting all three of the shots he took.
Rondo didn't even dare to make eye contact with him such was his form.
Truth be told, the game was practically in "garbage time" after the first half.
But in the second half, the Celtics, to show their "toughness" and "tenacity," still attempted a push on the court, until the Knicks pulled away by a 35-point margin, and then they finally settled down.
At the end of the game, the New York Knicks won big at home with a score of 118 to 78, a 40-point victory against the Celtics, welcoming the "season opener".
Su Wan played 20 minutes, hit 3 three-pointers, and ended the game with 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist;
Stephen Curry played 23 minutes and 14 seconds, hit 5 three-pointers, and ended the game with 18 points;
Ray Allen also hit 5 three-point shots, totaling 16 points for the game;
Vince Carter also contributed with 3 three-pointers, totaling 14 points for the game;
Tonight, the Knicks' least effective player was Paul George starting for the first time.
In 30 minutes and 13 seconds on the court, he totaled 8 points but was 3 of 9 from the field, 1 of 3 from three-point range, and also 1 of 2 from the free-throw line.
