Chapter 706: Chapter 28 Jake Lockly
Steve hit the incoming monsters with his shield while protecting the people from harm but he could tell that his stamina was draining fast due to his heightened usage of his power to boost his physique.
Furthermore, he saw his allies being exhausted and struggling before the monsters and Harrow who was harnessing power of the God.
" I am getting old, huh?"
He muttered quietly under his breath while fixing his helmet to match his eyes. He then looked at Harrow who was watching with him vigilance because he swore he never saw a human like Steve who fought tooth to tooth against the monsters while protecting the people and keeping him in check.
In this moment he felt Steve was more dangerous than Arthur due to his unbreakable concept of justice that fueled his body.
" Why don't you just give up? What I am doing is right and you know it too. You saw how people can be evil and how selfish they could be. So, why are you still fighting?"
Steve wiped blood from his mouth while picking his shield up. His finger slowly pointed to his chest, telling him that he was a soldier for people.
Throughout his entire life, Steve never regretted protecting people from harm even if they were evil and selfish because he believed in the goodness of humans. In his mind everyone can be fixed and saved, even the most evil person needs a chance to change.
" What you are doing is wrong, Harrow. Maybe your goal might be right but execution is wrong. In this world, everyone deserves a second chance or a third chance to prove themselves."
The righteous words of Steve nauseated Harrow who believed there would be no perfect human. Even Arthur who was the symbol of hope was flawed but Steve who was just a mortal, looked more perfect than Arthur.
It was no wonder that Arthur and other heroes respected him so much. He was truly a symbol of merciful justice, unlike Arthur who adhered to heroic justice.
" Then die with them. Although you deserve a chance, the goddess will understand my intent for you are a big obstruction."
Steve didn't say anything to him except to raise his shield. His calm blue eyes lingered on the people while he stood before Marc and others with his shield. His tall back felt like a cover of mountain to them as he bled for everyone.
" Marc, we have to do something. At this rate, he will die and we will lose. We don't know how long they will hold the goddess but we need to move now."
Marc felt a splitting headache when he heard Layla's words, not knowing what to do. No matter how hard he tried he couldn't kill all these monsters, unlike Steve who fought bravely.
" Steven, what should we do? At this rate, we will lose."
He sought help from Steven who had the brain. However, to his disappointment, Steven also felt helpless. Surely their combined effort was nowhere to enough to hurt him much less capture him.
Furthermore, the desperate looks of his friends and lover caught his attention as he felt something inside of him was boiling.
The terrifying darkness engulfed his mind, drowning him in the land of dreams while a man emerged from the darkest part of his heart.
It was a butcher who found pleasure in killing and torturing. His cold and insane demeanor was the opposite of Marc's as he symbolized vengeance.
" It will be alright my friends. You are will have been heard and I shall help you."
The man lowered his head while looking at Harrow with a cold look. The white suit emerged from his chest while he pulled two golden chakram-like weapons. The black and white suit looked like a crescent moon in the sky as his hands made a cracking sound.
" Marc?"
Before Layla could understand what was happening, Jake disappeared into the darkness while slashing the creatures. The blood and screams gushed out from both monsters and humans as they dropped one by one under their eyes.
Jake swung his weapons without any shred of mercy and kindness, killing everything that stood in his way even though they were humans.
