Harry Honda just wanted a simple life: a steady job, a happy girlfriend, and maybe a career as an erotica writer. But thanks to his roommate Jonathan, Harry now lives in Foundation City, the gateway at the base of the Dawn Tower, where Earth and five other worlds collide.

There's always more problems of course, for example, writing erotica in Foundation city is taboo, and Harry has no class. Among Earth's ascenders, that makes him practically powerless. His only gift, [Return], lets him revisit places he's already been. Useful? Yes. Impressive? Not really. Which is why he's been stuck as the heroes' taxi for decades.

But when an unusual lineup of heroes enters the Tower, Harry and his companions stumble on a secret that could change everything. The heroes may not be who they claim to be. The Tower is hiding truths no one dares to speak. And suddenly, the weakest man in Foundation City is being hunted—because sometimes the one who runs is the only one who can return.
