Chapter 239: Subspace Hostage
The words continued to ring inside his ears like church bells. This was a revelation he did not expect.
Something happened to Mistress Sienna?
His gaze naturally shifted back to the possessed Venissa. The calmness of her expression when facing directly against a Saint unsettled him greatly.
Moments later, he heard the woman chuckle. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Don't try to play games with me." Solyara replied. "Entering this dungeon unannounced is impossible. Even Monarchs would have trouble achieving it, let alone a slimy bastard like you.
"The only way you could have breached us without me noticing would be through Sienna's connection to this dungeon. Her Soul Weapon is directly related to this subspace."
There was a brief moment of silence before eventually, Venissa sighed.
"As expected of the Astral Maiden…
"You are right. Your disciple is under my cont—"
Before she could finish the sentence, Solyara aimed Her palm, allowing a colossal beam of energy to shoot out in Venissa's direction.
Sensing the approaching danger, Venissa jumped back with her own burst of starlight while casting another that resembled a barrier. Despite this, Solyara continued to shoot the ionizing beams of light with clear indifference.
Watching the light show from a distance, Soren prepared himself with several layers of Fairy Barrier. However, just from witnessing the clashes, he was certain his defensive magecraft would not hold up at all…
Meanwhile, Venissa continued to maneuver away from the beams of light. The rapid fire seemed unending—exhaustion slowly began to set in. And yet, despite this, she continued to smile brightly, as if none of this even mattered.
"High Mistress Solyara. Are you sure about this?
"Sure, perhaps killing me might end it all here, but you would have to sacrifice me in the process."
Solyara clicked Her tongue. "Stop acting as if you are her. Venissa is not controlling her body."
"You're wrong." Venissa's reply was full of venom as she dodged another attack. "This child… She is perfectly happy to be possessed—all of my puppets are. Reading her memories, it seems she's held some very deep seeded grudges toward you and the temple.
"I wonder what horrors you've all subjected her to… Poor girl…"
As she said this, the Whispering Dream used Venissa's body to cast another spell, creating massive clouds of colorful dust that sparkled in the darkness of the void. They somewhat resembled star-cradling nebulas.
Seconds later, the tiny stars twinkling inside them began to burn brightly then flew toward Solyara like missiles.
Seeing the incoming spell, Solyara's face remained neutral. With a casual flick of Her wrist, the star cluster scattered, as if they had been locked into orbit around Her. Then, just as they had completed their first rotation, the High Mistress sent them hurdling back in Venissa's direction.
Explosion after explosion rang out as the entire subspace shook from the impact. From the very beginning, he had known that this realm was inconsistent. His journey walking toward Solyara's perceived location took several hours, but after arriving here, he realized that their altercation was only beginning.
The subspace was folding and unfolding around him rapidly in inconceivable ways, altering the perception of time for all of them. And now, their magecraft was also causing their own ripples to form in the fabric…
However, at that moment, neither party cared. Their battle was continuing with no end in sight. Despite this, Soren still believed that Solyara was holding back massively.
As much as She was a high tempered person, the High Mistress was also very considerate of everything around Her. She knew that the true hostage in this situation wasn't Venissa…
It was Sienna.
Soren's teacher had somehow come under the control of Silmar. And since her abilities give her authority over this subspace, everyone inside it had also become his hostage…
Fortunately, Sienna wasn't the only one with control. Although the authority ultimately resided in her Soul Weapon, Solyara was still the one in charge of the Dungeon Core.
This battle… It was no longer about defeating an intruder. It has now evolved into a fight over who gets to decide what happens within this subspace.
According to the information I gathered during our last encounter, his ability called [Dream Hop] allows him to instantaneously teleport between the dreams of puppets he controls. Even if Venissa is currently housing the Whispering Dream inside her Three Layers, there is no doubt he will simply escape the moment she's defeated…
Knowing this, Solyara's current apprehension was logical. Killing Venissa wouldn't guarantee anything. At the same time, She needed to buy time to figure out a way to free Sienna from his grasp. If they could achieve that, then Silmar would naturally lose control over the subspace.
As he pondered over this, he noticed the possessed woman emerge from the debris clouds caused by her own spell. Her signature crimson hair was disheveled and burnt in countless ways, and yet she remained full of vigor. In the next few seconds, another flurry of spells was launched against the distant star shining brightly in the void—none had any effect. But it did cause a few quivers in the subspace once again.

Soren finally had proof for his theory—there was no doubt in his mind now that the Whispering Dream's attacks were mostly aimed at loosening Solyara's control over the subspace. The tug of war was once again resuming, but it was hard for him to really see what the results were like.
Frowning, he fully resolved himself to dive deeper. I know She advised against it, but there's no other choice…
He was going to use [Eyes of the Fairy] on the dungeon once again. This time, the barriers that obstructed him from seeing the unseen were gone. All that remained was the essence of this dungeon—the subspace that's intrinsically linked to the Dungeon Shroud.
Taking a deep breath, he finally gave the mental command. The Records began to glow faintly as its radiant pages shimmered and broke apart into a swarm of butterflies that once again rushed into his eyes.
However, just as this was beginning to occur, he noticed a change that made his spine crawl.
The Whispering Dream—Venissa—was staring directly at him…
Shit…
As his Soul Weapon skill continued its activation, he also began recasting his Fairy Barrier as well.
His instincts turned out to be correct. Just as the first layer of the glass-like bubble formed, a sudden flash of light emerged before him, shattering the barrier and sending him flying back. The casting of [Eyes of the Fairy] was also cancelled.
Struggling to get back up, Soren clutched his chest tightly—his previously broken ribs were once again pulsing with pain. In the distance, he could see Venissa once again returning to her battle. Solyara on the other hand surprised him. She remained more composed than the void itself, and yet, as She began to look at him, hints of curiosity dotted Her face.
"Do you think your plan will work, boy?" The Astral Maiden only spoke in Her usual tone, but Her voice still boomed across the subspace. He was certain that the question was aimed at him.
He looked up at the flashing white star in silence, unsure of how to answer. Then, a realization struck him.
Venissa's attack against him… It was definitely out of desperation. She had cast that beam of light during Solyara's barrage which almost killed her. The fact that she was willing to risk that just to disrupt his Soul Weapon's skill…
Is the Whispering Dream trying to hide something?
Smiling arrogantly, Soren looked up at Solyara who was swatting Venissa's attacks like they were flies and said:
"I don't have a plan. Only a goal."
"Then what are you waiting for?" She chuckled. "Do what you need to do."
Without hesitating any further, Soren's smile widened as he wiped the blood off his lips and once again gave the mental command.
[Eyes of the Fairy].
Just like before, his Soul Weapon swiftly began the skill's usual activation sequence. And predictably, Venissa also changed course, aiming her next spell directly at him.
Fortunately for Soren, he had protection this time. Just before her beam of starlight pierced through his chest, an even brighter barrier formed around him like a flaming shell. His vision slowly began to shift into pastel colors, but he was still able to see the Whispering Dream's desperation to stop him.
Though, It was all too late in the end.
Once again, Soren was now staring directly at the very fabric of this subspace. The endless, ever-shifting mesh of fractals intertwined into a vast web had grown far clearer than before. Now that he was observing it from beyond the dungeon's interior, streams of information that had once eluded him were now flooding his mind like an avalanche. Though, not without a cost—the immense pain was already causing his eyes to bleed.
Despite this, Soren didn't stop using [Eyes of the Fairy]. Even if his pain was doubled, he would still not give up on witnessing the beauty now present around him.
For the once-empty void…. had now become a galaxy.
Every direction he looked gave him a new grasp on fate's inner workings. The stars forming every spiral arm of the galaxy fed him more information than he could ever hope to grasp. And yet, his desires burned for more answers.
Just as he was about to forget his goal, Soren felt a pair of arms gently wrap around his neck from behind. He looked down and saw them—translucent and ghostly, their forms shimmering with drifting motes of stardust.
And yet, despite the strangeness, Soren didn't panic. There was no malice in that embrace—only warmth and quiet solace. In fact, his mind only became clearer, as if he was being cleansed of all his pain.
Taking a deep breath, he turned his neck back and immediately saw who was clinging to him… A spectral body with even more stardust than he could count. Her hair waved slowly in the void, as if she were submerged underwater. And her pupil-less eyes burned brightly with light as she stared directly into his…
Because [Eyes of the Fairy] was still functioning, a string of information about her swiftly entered his mind. Parsing through it, a name immediately burst from his lips:
"Yvain?.."
The First Witch of Star Fate… Original Inheritor of the Vessel of the Stars—an Empyrean.
Soren froze, unable to speak any longer. All he could do was stare in awe—and who could blame him?! This was the first ancestor of the Three Temples—a figure the sisters worshiped as though She was divine, to the point of even adopting Her name.
And now, this legendary being from Yarian's history was… hugging him? Of all people?!
A whirlwind of thoughts—some more sacrilegious than others—tore through his mind. Yet in Her presence, he dared not let them linger. Soren simply stood there, gazing at Her radiant form, awaiting for Her to speak.
But no words came.
Gradually, unease began to settle in his chest. Despite Her warmth, Soren couldn't help but wonder if She was judging him… Or perhaps even preparing a punishment fit for his transgressions.
However, his worries were unnecessary. Unwrapping Her arms, Yvain simply pointed to the sky instead… His gaze naturally shifted there—glancing past the endless array of dazzling stars that pierced through the empty void. Eventually, [Eyes of the Fairy] settled on something immensely distant, but shined brighter than the rest.
The Galaxy's center…
Squinting his eyes, he began to notice faint details… A shadow at the center of the light.
No wait—a silhouette?.. He thought inwardly. Only after [Eyes of the Fairy] began to register its information did the realisation hit him.
This was not just another Fate Star… This was a Fate Star belonging to the one who held the highest authority over this dungeon—Sienna herself!
