Chapter 101: Chapter 100 Suitable
"Boom, boom…"
Carl knocked on Beth's door. At this point in time, Carl didn't know why Beth was still in the bedroom, but according to Hershel, Beth was indeed there.
The door was opened, and Beth was wearing a set of fluffy pajamas, well, very tight ones, and she looked a little sleepy, as if she had not yet woken up.
Beth was already used to Carl, so she went back to bed after opening the door.
"Can I come in?" Carl asked.
"Damn it, why do you have to ask every time I open the door." Beth shrank back into the quilt and said unhappily.
Karl nodded, walked into the room, closed the door, sat down in the chair beside the bed, and stared at his hands in a daze.
After a while, Beth said strangely, "Karl, according to convention, you should find a topic first."
"You are sleeping." Carl said absentmindedly.
"I didn't, I was just lying in bed." Beth covered herself with the quilt and stared at Carl beside the bed.
Carl nodded, turned his gaze to Beth, and then quickly turned away. Carl knew that he must be acting very guilty.
But now Carl didn't know what to say, not only because he learned from Glenn that Beth already knew that his purpose was "impure".
"Carl, you don't seem very happy today. Is something on your mind?" Beth asked.
Carl nodded and shook his head. He didn't know why he came to find Beth now. Maybe he wanted to find a place to stay for a while, or maybe he wanted to see Beth.
This was the first time that Carl came to see Beth without any preparation, not even mental preparation.
"Hey, Carl, what's wrong with you? Look at me." Beth sat up on the bed and held Carl's head with both hands. "I remember you never acted like this. You should tell me what's on your mind. Believe me, you will feel much better."
Feeling the warmth of Beth's hand, Carl smiled, a very innocent smile, "I don't know how to put it, I just feel inexplicably irritated."
"What is there to be upset about? It's the end of the world. Why don't you be happy? Live as long as you can and be happy every day. Be good and be happy." Beth showed an infectious smile.
Carl knew why he wanted to come here at this time. He wanted comfort and warmth.
Beth did not disappoint.
Carl thought for a moment and said, "Glenn told me."
"What?" Beth was stunned.
"Tell me what you talked about at the dinner table after I left that day." Carl said truthfully.
"Ah?" Beth was startled, then immediately let go of Carl, quickly shrank back into the quilt, and wrapped herself tightly with the quilt.
Carl was stunned. Why did Beth's reaction be so big, even bigger than his own?
"Beth?"
no respond.
So Carl called out again, "Beth?"
Still no response, Carl hesitated. Under normal circumstances, he should have left.
But today, whether Carl had come to his senses or because of his mood, he did not choose to leave.
After sitting quietly for a while, Beth still curled up in the quilt, and Carl thought she might have fallen asleep.
Carl hesitated for a moment, stood up, but did not walk out of the room. He walked from the bed to the dressing table on the other side, next to a window.
There were no cosmetics on the dressing table, just a few novels, a jewelry box, some hairpins, hand cream, sunscreen and other things.
There was a watch in the middle. The ladies' watch looked small and delicate, with signs of having been worn. It should have been taken off by Beth.
Carl looked at it for a while, hesitated, and picked it up. Four thirty-two, and then stood by the dressing table, looking through the window at the scenery outside.
Beth's window was diagonally facing the main road leading into the farm. Apart from the trees beside the road in the distance, there was no obstruction and the view seemed very empty.
In this position, looking at the scenery outside the window, Carl's heart became particularly peaceful.
After a while, there was no sound. Beth thought Carl had left and couldn't help but stick her head out in annoyance.
Then he saw Carl standing by the window.
After hesitating for a long time, Beth finally couldn't help but take action, "Carl!"
"Uh, what's wrong?" Carl turned his head, a little confused. Beth seemed a little angry, or was she just pretending to be angry?
Beth stared at Carl angrily, not knowing what to say.
Carl scratched his head helplessly, wondering why his reaction became so slow at this moment? Normally, shouldn't he have been having a good chat with Beth?
"Carl, who told you to touch my things!" Beth saw the watch in Carl's hand and seemed to have finally found a topic to talk about.
Karl was stunned, and quickly put his watch on the dressing table, "Sorry, sorry, I just checked the time."
"Okay, I don't blame you, Carl. You're acting weird today, you know?" Beth couldn't help laughing when she saw Carl looking nervous.
"I don't know what's going on, but Beth, you seem to be a little abnormal." Carl reacted and looked straight at Beth.
Beth's pretty face immediately blushed, and she asked in a much quieter voice, "Did Glenn say anything about me?"
Carl understood, smiled gently, and shook his head, "No, I think I know why I'm not feeling right."
"Why?" Beth asked cooperatively.
"Glenn told me that you already know me... I'm not an ordinary kid, and I'm afraid you'll distance yourself from me." Carl hesitated for a moment, but decided to use a more euphemistic approach.
"Just because of this?" Beth was stunned, then laughed, "Karl, how could that be? I really like the feeling of being with you, and you call me sister, don't you? How could I distance myself from you?"
"Really?" Carl was very surprised.
"Of course." Beth made a face in annoyance.
"Thanks, Beth, I feel much better." Carl smiled.
"Is that so? Then I'll make you feel better." Beth pinched her chin, thought for a while, and then asked, "Carl, have you ever received a gift from a girl?"
"Does Mom count?" Carl said.
"Then I want to give you a gift. Well, a sister should give a gift to her brother. Let me think about what I can give you."
Beth threw back the quilt and got out of bed. Maybe she was a little cold when she first got out of bed. Beth hugged her arms, shivering slightly, and frowned slightly. For a moment, she seemed unable to think of anything suitable.
Carl cast his eyes towards the dressing table, "Beth, I want it if I can!"
Beth looked in the direction Karl pointed, and saw her own watch, which was very ordinary and not a brand. She raised her eyebrows slightly and said, "I have worn it before."
"But I really need a watch, and with the current size of my wrist, apart from children's watches, it seems that only women's watches can barely fit me," said Carl.
"Is that so?" Beth walked over to Carl and picked up the watch on the dressing table. "To be honest, if I gave such a gift before, I would be laughed at, but...
Who makes you like it? "
Beth handed it to Carl with a sweet smile. Carl just took it when Beth suddenly snatched it back.
"Let me bring it to you and see if it's suitable. I hope you won't regret choosing such a gift."
"No, I like it very much."
