The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide

Chapter 4: Here We Go

The Valentine Duchy was quite chilly at night, despite it being summer.

Considering I was flying through the air, it definitely felt even colder.

“Ugh, it’s freezing!”

Using fire magic to create a barrier around me for warmth, I flew for a while until I spotted the bustling shopping district of the capital, Virant.

Landing in a deserted alley, I pulled my hood tightly over my head and blended into the crowd.

“This place is lively every time I come here.”

Despite it being night, Virant was bustling with many stalls and a crowd of people.

Especially the adventurers, some were celebrating hard with the money they earned that day, so this town hardly ever quieted down.

As I wandered through the streets, the delicious smell of grilled skewers wafted through the air, prompting me to head in that direction.

“Hey, mister! One skewer, please!”

“Sure thing! Hang on a sec! …Here you go, sorry for the wait!”

“Thanks!”

After receiving my skewer and paying, I started strolling through the streets again while munching on it.

“This is delicious! That rich flavor is just irresistible.”

In my repeated lives, there was a time when I sought strength and hunted monsters like an adventurer.

It was then that I first bought a skewer from a stall, and the juicy, heavily seasoned meat felt like heaven for my tired body. Ever since, I’ve been hooked on street food after hunting.

“Alright, where to next?”

Finishing my skewer, I looked around to decide what to do next.

Suddenly, I felt a tug on my arm from behind, pulling me into a back alley where I found myself surrounded by three unfamiliar men.

“Hehehe, a kid all alone at this hour? Kiddo, you might be in danger!”

“Yeah, you might just get caught by some bad men!”

“…”

There were a lanky, tall guy, a short and plump one, and a bald, muscular fellow who simply glared down at me.

These three men had varying builds but wore lewd grins as they looked me over.

“What do you want?”

“You’re some rich brat, aren’t you?”

“We just want a little donation from ya.”

“…”

I see; I understood the situation. They thought I was a wealthy noble’s son and dragged me here to extort money since I was all alone.

“Hmm, I see.”

“Hehe, now that you get it, hand over the cash quickly!”

“If you don’t want to take a hit, it’s best to listen to us!”

“…”

A normal kid would probably cry out and hand them some money in this situation, but too bad for them, I wasn’t a normal kid. I was a genius known as a prodigy. There’s no way I’d let these weaklings get the better of me.

(Seriously, bald guy, say something already. Why are you just standing there silently?)

“Guess I’ll have to do something.”

“Oh? You planning to hand it over?”

As the lanky guy stepped closer, I used a non-chanting body enhancement spell, stepping forward instead of fleeing, and got in close to punch the guy on the jaw.

With that simple hit, his brain rattled, and he rolled his eyes back before collapsing face-first.

The plump man stood there, dumbfounded by the sudden turn of events, but I didn’t miss that opening and dove into his space, knocking him out just like the last guy.

“…Kid. Not bad.”

Suddenly, the bald man, who had been silent until now, cracked a fierce smile and began to focus on me.

“Well, I’m a genius, after all. There’s no way I’ll lose to the likes of you.”

“Hmph. Let’s see if that’s really the case.”

With that, the man clenched his fists and assumed a fighting stance, his presence feeling amplified.

(Hmm, he seems decent. But…)

“Honestly, you’re no match for me.”

A little more motivated now, I stepped in again.

“I saw that same move earlier. That trick won’t work on me again.”

The man dodged my punch aimed at his jaw, then swung his fist down at me in retaliation.

“Too easy.”

I ducked low to dodge it and, using the momentum, circled around behind him to deliver a hard kick to the back of his knee.

“Ugh!”

With his balance broken, he leaned forward slightly to regain it. In that moment, I leaped up high, swinging my right leg down to land a crushing kick on his head.

“Uwaahh!”

He let out a pained cry and promptly knocked his head into the ground, knocking him out cold.

“Pathetic.”

I pulled some rope from the clothes of the three men, tying them up and attaching them to a nearby pillar before heading off to call the guards.

After handing the men over to the guards, I felt no desire to continue exploring the town, so I activated my flight magic and returned to my room.

“Sigh. That was a hassle in the end, but this town really is wonderful.”

I liked this territory. It wasn’t blessed with great weather, but everyone seemed to live happily and enjoyably.

Many times I thought about wanting to protect the happiness of these people in the future, but I was doomed to die, and that dream had never come true.

“Well, there’s no use thinking about it. Time to sleep again.”

I had been painfully reminded of how my dreams would never come true throughout my repeated lives.

I was far from the person to live with dreams or hopes anymore, so I switched my mindset and lay down on my bed.

The next morning, just like any other day, Miria woke me and helped me get ready, and we headed to the dining hall for breakfast.

“Are you feeling alright, Luis-sama?”

“No problem.”

I had told Miria during last night’s dinner that I wouldn’t participate due to feeling unwell, so she seemed genuinely concerned.

Without further conversation, I entered the dining hall and took my seat.

Across from me sat the Pestelrose family, and as I sat down, the meal began.

Not that we were having a lavish breakfast; it was more of a light snack.

“Oh, Luis. You feeling better already?”

While we enjoyed tea after finishing our meal, my father asked about my health.

“Yes, I’m perfectly fine now. A good night’s rest did wonders.”

“I see. You’re still a child, so be sure to tell us if something’s wrong.”

“Thank you.”

After finishing with me, my father started chatting with Marquis Pestelrose, and my mother joined in conversation with the marquis’s wife.

As I sipped my tea and relaxed, I noticed Iris was also quiet, simply enjoying her tea beside me.

A little while later, it was time for Iris and her party to leave, so we stood in front of the mansion to see them off.

“Maile, let’s meet again.”

“Yeah, Edward. With the engagement of our kids set, I’ll come again when I can.”

Edward is my father’s name, and my mother is Elise. As he shook hands with Marquis Pestelrose, they exchanged pleasantries before boarding their carriage.

As my mother waved goodbye, I turned to see Iris approaching me.

“Luis Valentine-sama, thank you very much for your hospitality.”

“No, I’m sorry I couldn’t offer more. Please travel safely.”

“Thank you very much.”

After offering her thanks one last time, Iris headed towards the carriage and got inside.

“Ah, that’s done. Now I can just ignore things.”

Thus, I was once more engaged to the Grim Reaper, Iris Pestelrose, and we took off on the usual path towards our predetermined future.
