The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide

Chapter 30: The Goddess

When I woke up, I found myself in a completely empty white space.

“Where is this… I am sure I…”

Gradually, as my hazy consciousness cleared, memories started to resurface.

I had come to the dungeon with Fiera. Up until the boss room on the 40th floor, everything had been going smoothly, but the boss in that room turned out to be an ice dragon.

I fought the dragon and created a barrier to protect Fiera, but the last icicle pierced my stomach.

In the end, I had engaged in a deathmatch with it and emerged victorious, but I had no recollection of what happened afterward.

“I see. I died, huh?”

“No, you are not dead.”

Suddenly, a voice came from nowhere, and as I looked around, the woman was standing right in front of me as if it were entirely natural.

With mysterious golden hair and golden eyes, she wore only a white outfit but exuded overwhelming beauty.

Yes, she looked just like a goddess…

“Yes. I am a goddess.”

It was as if this woman could read my thoughts about her being a goddess, but I wasn’t particularly surprised.

“You’re not surprised, are you?”

“Well, I kind of figured there was a divine presence.”

If there weren’t a god, it would be impossible for me to rewind after dying so many times.

Thus, in my previous life, I had somewhat understood that the existence of a deity was real.

But what was important was that I might not be able to die because of this goddess. In other words, this goddess could be the root of all my troubles and might even be my enemy.

“Don’t worry. I am not your enemy. In fact, I want to help you, Lewis.”

“You want to help me?”

“Yes. First, let me introduce myself. I am the Goddess of Destiny, Oriens. Feel free to call me Oly.”

Oriens said that with a smile and suddenly conjured up a table and chairs in the empty space.

“Standing while talking is not ideal, so please have a seat first.”

Doing as she asked, I sat across from Oriens.

Then, drinks and cookies appeared on the table, and Oriens took a sip.

“So, let me ask again: I’m here because I died, right?”

“Yes. You are not dead yet. However, it’s true that you are in a critical situation. But don’t worry. You will be saved.”

“I see. Then why did you bring me here?”

After hearing my question, Oriens placed her cup on the table and looked at me with a serious expression.

“I have something to convey to you this time. Though I can’t say much just yet… To put it simply, various challenges will befall you from now on. I want you to overcome them all and gain strength.”

“What do you mean?”

“I’m sorry. I can’t say more at this moment. Just one thing: your fate has changed slightly because you committed suicide in your previous life. You must gain strength to prepare for what is to come.”

Oriens looked apologetic and repeated those same words, as if she really couldn’t say anything more detailed.

“Then one last thing. If I die now, will I achieve eternal death?”

“Not at this stage. You have not yet escaped that fate.”

It seems my instincts were correct; I was still under the fate that would send me back if I died.

“It seems time is running out. Lewis, I am always watching over you. After entering the academy, whenever you can, please be sure to visit the cathedral in the Holy Kingdom. I will tell you everything there. Now, do your best from here on out.”

With Oriens’ last words, my consciousness gradually faded.

“Lewis. I will definitely…”

Oriens, alone, gazed at the seat where Lewis had just been sitting, thinking about his future.

When I next opened my eyes, I found a ceiling covered in ice directly in front of me.

“Did I… get saved?”

Just as Oriens said, it seemed I truly wasn’t dead.

However, I couldn’t comprehend why, despite being seriously wounded from the icicle piercing my stomach, I was still alive after fighting.

I slowly moved my neck to look around.

There, I saw multiple potion vials, one that Fiera had, and the ones I had brought, scattered around.

“Fiera used a potion…”

Having understood the general situation, I began to search for her to thank her when I felt a weight of some sort around my stomach.

Thinking it might be what I feared, I managed to lift my head and found Fiera sleeping with her head resting on my abdomen.

“So you’re sleeping there, huh? …But, thank you.”

Looking at her cheeks, it seemed she had cried for me; there were tear stains left behind.

As I stared at her, grateful, Fiera slowly opened her eyes and looked at me.

“Good morning.”

“E… El?”

“I guess I worried you.”

“El!”

When Fiera heard me call her name, she immediately hugged me tightly while lying down, beginning to cry into my chest.

I gently stroked Fiera’s head and waited until she calmed down.

“El… are you really okay now?”

“Yeah. Thanks to you, Fiera.”

After crying for a while, Fiera finally seemed to calm down, but she still wouldn’t let go, remaining clung to my chest.

“How long has it been?”

“About half a day.”

It hadn’t been that long, but since we had arrived at the dungeon slightly before noon, it must be completely dark outside now.

I wanted to go home immediately, but unfortunately, it looked like I still wouldn’t be able to stand up.

With Fiera supporting my body, I leaned against the wall and checked my magic power.

(Not much has recovered yet.)

I thought about casting a healing spell on myself if my magic power had recovered, but since it wasn’t recovering as much as I thought, that seemed impossible.

“Well, I guess I’ll stay here a bit longer.”

“Understood.”

So we remained in the ice-covered boss room until my magic power recovered enough for me to move.

“Ah— finally made it out!”

“Yeah. The sun is bright.”

After two days of being unable to leave the boss room, Fiera and I finally stepped out.

It seemed my injuries were worse than I initially thought. Even after using healing magic, I couldn’t move immediately, and it ended up taking two full days before we could finally leave the dungeon.

Fortunately, no other adventurers had come to the 40th floor in the meantime, and since the boss wouldn’t respawn until we left, we were able to rest peacefully.

“Fiera. First, let’s go to the guild.”

“Okay. Got it.”

Having been unable to move properly for two days, we decided to run back to town without using any body enhancement spells as a sort of rehabilitation.

“Eir! Fiera!”

When we entered the Adventurers’ Guild, Sheila saw us and rushed over with a worried expression.

“I’m so glad you two are okay! I was worried since you suddenly disappeared!”

Sheila’s face looked like she was about to cry, so it took us a while to calm her down.

“So, where have you two been?”

“Actually, we were in the dungeon until now.”

“In the dungeon?”

“Yeah. We were fighting that thing.”

As I said this, I pulled out the magic stone from the final boss of “Icy Fake,” the ice dragon, from my bag and placed it on the table.

“T-this is! The magic stone of the dragon from the 40th floor?!”

“Yep.”

“No way you two took it down all by yourselves?”

“It looks that way.”

After hearing our story, Sheila looked at us with a stunned expression, unable to hide her surprise.

“Th-that dragon required at least eight A-rank adventurers’ strength, right? Plus, you would need a balanced party of healers and tanks to defeat it… and you did it with just the two of you…?”

“Well, it was a close call, though. More importantly, I’m sorry. I’m exhausted, so could you please handle the conversion for me?”

“Oh! Right! I’ll hurry to cash it in!”

Sheila hurriedly grabbed the magic stone from the table and rushed toward the back.

“El. Are you okay?”

“Yeah. I hardly feel any pain. I just want to sleep in a bed as soon as possible.”

“Agreed. Sleeping on ice is exhausting.”

As I chatted with Fiera while seated in a chair against the wall to pass the time, Sheila soon called us back after finishing the conversion.

“Thank you for waiting. Here’s your reward.”

“Thanks.”

After receiving the bag with our reward, we thanked Sheila and set off home to recuperate from our exhaustion.
