Chapter 11
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Episode 11: Senior Adventurer
Two days after hearing about the rank-up exam at the Adventurers’ Guild, I arrived at the guild a bit earlier than usual.
The trolls appear deep in the forest, so if we don’t leave early in the morning, by the time we return, it will be dark out.
With that in mind, I opened the door to the Adventurers’ Guild and found Sheila and an adventurer examiner already there.
“Sorry for keeping you waiting.”
“No, it’s fine. We haven’t been waiting long.”
After she said that, a handsome guy with blonde hair who looked to be in his mid-twenties began to speak.
“You must be Eir. I’ve heard about you. They say you’re a promising newcomer.”
“Not that special, really.”
“Haha, is that so? Well, I’m looking forward to today.”
“Izel, a self-introduction, please.”
“Oh, right. I’m Izel, an A Rank adventurer. Nice to meet you.”
“I’m Eir. Nice to meet you.”
After we finished our introductions, we decided to head straight to the forest where the trolls were located, leaving the Adventurers’ Guild with Sheila seeing us off.
After arriving in the forest, we immediately entered and began searching for trolls.
Though we had already located them using detection magic, we just needed to head to that spot now.
“Eir, you can use magic too? You really are quite skilled. What other magic can you use?”
“I can’t use much magic… I can use water magic, that’s about it.”
“Water magic, huh? Hmm…”
Izel pondered for a moment before starting to walk forward. I followed behind him, and after a while, we reached the area where the troll was located.
“How much do you know about trolls, Eir?”
“Well, they move slowly, have regeneration abilities, and can use logs as weapons.”
“That’s enough. I’ll wait here and watch. If things get dangerous, I’ll help you, so just give it your all.”
“Understood. ‘Body Enhancement!'”
After using body enhancement, I approached the troll at a speed slower than usual.
The troll noticed me and let out a roar before swinging its fist down at me.
I barely dodged it, rolling on the ground to regain my stance.
Then, as I closed in on the troll again, I avoided its punch while slashing with my sword.
But it seemed my attack was too shallow, and the wound healed almost instantly, dealing no damage.
I continued to repeat this process multiple times, wearing the troll down until its stamina ran out.
Since trolls can’t use magic, their healing is purely natural.
And by healing rapidly, they expend more stamina in return.
So, once their stamina is depleted, they can no longer heal, making it easy for me to finish them off.
After about an hour of fighting, I finally saw that its healing couldn’t keep up with my attacks.
I seized the opportunity, concentrated body enhancement in my arm, and hacked off its arm, then swiftly decapitated it.
“Phew…”
As I took a breath, Izel approached from behind, clapping his hands.
“Well done. That was quite a splendid fight. Just as expected from a promising newcomer.”
“Thank you.”
“But that’s why… what a pity.”
Izel said this, his previously bright smile replaced by an ugly, twisted grin as he looked at me.
“Ah, what a real shame. To think a promising adventurer like you would die in a place like this.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, you see, you’re a nuisance to us. With your talent and potential, you threaten our future.”
As Izel clapped his hands again, about ten armed adventurers emerged from the bushes and behind trees.
“Sorry, but we’re going to have you die here. We saw your fight with the troll, so everyone should be careful. Though, with this many, I think it’ll be fine.”
Looking around, it seemed the adventurers ranged from C to B rank, with Izel being the only A rank among them.
“Have you done this before?”
“Occasionally. There are many who dislike talented younglings.
So when we’ve spotted them in a dungeon or forest, we have them exit this world. Then the guild will just assume they fell victim to monsters.”
With Izel’s words as the signal, the adventurers surrounding me drew their weapons.
Seeing them, I looked down and couldn’t help but tremble.
“Oh? Are you crying? Too bad, there’s no option for me to let you go here. Just die quietly…”
“…kuh kuh kuh. Ahhahaha!”
As I suddenly burst into laughter, the men around me looked confused.
“…Have you gone mad since you realized you can’t escape?”
“Haha! Oh man, this is too good! I can’t get enough of this situation… It’s thrilling!”
Using those words as a trigger, I activated body enhancement and moved at a speed incomparable to when I fought the troll.
Then, I swiftly beheaded the man nearest to me and, with that momentum, kicked the next guy nearby.
From the sound, his bone must have broken, and he’d likely die soon from that injury.
With my feet firmly planted on the ground, I kicked off and sliced through a bewildered guy who was confused by the sudden loss of two of his companions.
Stopping for a moment and surveying the surroundings, I saw that Izel and his companions were staring at me in shock.
“Haa. Standing around like idiots in front of an enemy. No wonder you can’t rank up.”
“W-what’s the meaning of this? You! What did you do?!”
Izel asked in a panic, but was he really that stupid?
“Why do I have to tell the ones trying to kill me anything?”
“Just answer me!!”
“Haa. You’re really dumb. Fine, I’ll tell you. I just used body enhancement and cut you down with my sword. Nothing complicated about it.”
“That’s impossible! Your body enhancement wasn’t that fast! Plus, you didn’t even chant; it can’t be true!”
Thinking that I was using my full strength against the troll, they seemed completely unable to understand what was happening.
“I was just holding back.”
“…Huh? Holding back? Why…”
Izel and his companions were beginning to look at me with fear in their eyes, clearly struggling to comprehend that I had been holding back against the troll.
“It’s simple. I let you think I was going easy on you so I could be ready to respond when you tried anything.”
“Y-you realized? Since when…”
“From the very beginning, I never trusted you. And I only recognized you as my enemy once we entered the forest. I spotted some suspicious movement at a distance using detection magic.”
“Wha?! Why did you doubt me?!”
“More precisely… I just don’t believe anyone. I trust no one. I’ve been betrayed, tricked, and killed by too many people in my life.
I can’t trust anyone now, nor can I lower my guard.”
“That’s the end of the explanation. Now, can you kill me?”
As I grinned defiantly while looking around at Izel and the others, I slowly posed with my sword and took a step forward.
