Chapter 74 - Do You Want to Go to the District Office First?

【Virtual VTuber Gallery】
[General] What does this stream title mean?
【Simulwatch】 If I fall into a large lad-you, it’ll be Clannad 【Chel Sumeragi/Aurora/Nekozuka Rion】
I don’t understand what Chel’s stream title means.
[Comments]
– Large lad-you = Clad
– Since I’ve fallen into lad-you, it becomes “La-nad.”
– Combined, it’s Clannad.
– (Author) This is so hard to understand, damn it, lol.
– Why does Chel always make stream titles like this?
– Loves dad jokes way too much.
===
[Broadcast] Rion is crying again.
(Highlight)
Scream factory = Sora
Tears factory = Rion
[Comments]
– Damn, that’s hot…
– Laura casually sipping tea next to her is hilarious, lol.
– Is Laura a T-person???
– You just figured that out?
– They brought Clannad just to make her cry, lol.
===
[General] ???: I like seeing crying faces.
(Highlight)
“Because I’m the villainous noblewoman, of course.”
[Comments]
– What is that munching sound?
– Scones and macarons.
– There’s also a Swiss roll.
– Eating a lot, lol.
– Casually enjoying food while Rion cries, lol.
– Honestly, that seems kinda psycho…
– (Author) She’s the villainous noblewoman though?
– Yeah, definitely fits.
– I could eat three meals a day just looking at Rion’s crying face.
– I’m already done with that phase of Rion crying.

[General] Attempts Chel made to make Laura cry:
1. Blue Record
2. Clannad Watch Party
3. Main quest for zones 4 and 5 in Genshin
4. April Fool Watch Party
[Comments]
– And yet she still didn’t cry, lol.
– Wouldn’t it be faster to just make her cry physically?
– Lol, just poke her eyes.
– Do that and Laura will beat you up, lol.
– Chel should just make Laura pregnant.
– Yeah, making her cry during childbirth might be the only way.
– If she married me, Laura would cry, but Chel is taking the hard route, lol.

“I can’t do it.”
Chel said that just before dinner.
“What do you mean, you can’t? Cleaning up and doing the dishes afterward is your job.”
“I can’t make Laura cry.”
Oh, that’s what she meant.
For the record, Chel is fairly diligent when it comes to house chores. She quietly handles anything you give her.
Rion is diligent and efficient. Sora, although lacking in efficiency, is good at cooking.
Inagika, for some reason, enjoys cleaning the bathroom, while Chel isn’t good at cooking but is meticulous with cleaning and organizing. And Anna, well, she’s truly incapable of doing anything.
‘At this point, it’s almost like living together with Chel.’
These days, Chel comes to my house almost daily. She planned to stay over again tonight.
Well, “stay over” might be the wrong phrase—she might not go home at all tomorrow.
She wasn’t quite a guest anymore, more like a freeloading resident. Rion also worked from home most of the time.
It seemed that Chel herself felt awkward about sticking around, so she started doing house chores on her own. Eventually, I began to delegate more small tasks to her, and recently, she’s felt more like family.
During the Chuseok holiday, Sora stayed at our place, but Chel had been here for much longer.
“Let’s watch Sanrabi tomorrow.”
Chel, deep in thought, said that.
“Sanrabi will make her cry.”
That was her goal.
“But don’t you realize the more you talk about it, the less likely she is to cry? Honestly, it just feels like you’re making a fuss.”
“Ah.”
Chel sighed softly and said,
“Sanrabi isn’t even that emotional. There’s no way Laura will cry.”
“You might want to study reverse psychology more. But why are you so obsessed with making me cry?”
That has always been a question for me.
So, I asked, but Chel just tilted her head.
“Because I want to see it?”
“Your hobbies are twisted.”
“……”
Chel narrowed her eyes slightly, as if asking, “Who are you to say that?”
She was probably thinking about when I enjoyed tea while Rion cried watching Clannad, but that was beyond my control.
After all, I am the villainous noblewoman.
Seeing someone else cry makes tea and macarons taste even better.
‘Could Chel be a villainous noblewoman too?’
Villainous noblewomen love seeing others cry. I enjoy it, and Chel wants to see me cry. So maybe Chel is also a villainous noblewoman like me.
That was my reasonable deduction, but upon further thought, I realized there was a flaw in this theory.
Even ordinary people might want to see me cry.
It’s only natural for someone to desire to see a stunning beauty cry. Though I hadn’t shed a tear in over ten years, anyone could understand that my tears would be priceless. No need for a calculator to figure that out.
If that’s the case, maybe Chel wants to make me cry for monetary reasons. What a greedy person she is.
“All the other 6th Gen VTubers cried.”
While I was thinking about that, Chel spoke to defend herself.
All the other 6th Gen VTubers?
“Sora cried at the recent tournament. You cried too. What about Inagika?”
“She cried.”
Chel then showed me an archive from one of Inagika’s streams.
【Simulwatch】 Watching Bochi the Rock from Episode 1 【Inagika/EYEAI】
[Thank goodness… Sniff. Bochi finally has a friend… sob. I wish I had a friend to play TRPGs with too… sob, sniff…]
“See, she cried.”
“She did cry, but isn’t that for a different reason?”
She cried right from episode 1. Sure, there are points to cry later, like in episode 8 or the finale, but in the first episode? Seriously?
“Now, only Laura remains. So let’s watch Sanrabi.”
“Hmm.”
It seemed like Chel wouldn’t stop until I shed tears.
But I’m someone who never even yawns. I’m too healthy to feel fatigue.
So the only option left might really be poking my eyes. But am I supposed to stab my own eyes? That seems undignified for a noblewoman.
“Maybe it’s better to watch Sanrabi later.”
Just as I concluded that using artificial tears might be the quickest solution, Rion suddenly interrupted.
“Oh my, Rion, you’re back.”
She had just returned from work, still dressed in her business suit. Her serious demeanor made the suit look even better on her.
“Good thing Chel’s here. You and Chel have a job to do.”
“A job?”
“You two need to record voice clips.”
“Voice clips?”
It wasn’t a particularly surprising story. We’d already discussed voice work once with Sora.
So my attention was on something else.
“Just the two of us? What about the others?”
“Several VTubers from EYEAI are participating. In total, there’ll be eight.”
“When I said ‘others’, I meant the 6th Gen.”
“Oh… Inagika and Sora? They’ll do it next time.”
Rion explained.
“That’s unexpected. Why are they being excluded?”
“I’m not sure about other companies, but that’s how our company handles it. Splitting the 6th Gen VTubers will help sales.”
“Is that so?”
“There’s only so much voice content we can sell.”
EYEAI has about 20 VTubers. And the voice content costs around 10,000 won per person.
If all 20 participated, fans would need to spend 200,000 won.
“But in reality, no one’s going to spend that much. 200,000 won is too much.”
Watching VTuber streams is free, but being a hardcore fan can be costly.
There’s official merchandise to buy, paid events to attend, and fan support, not to mention VTuber memberships. Event tickets could cost up to 100,000 won.
So even if all 20 VTubers released voice content, very few people would buy everything.
Fans had to save up for events, merch, and other VTuber-related expenses.
“That’s why we only release content from about eight people. Spending 200,000 won is too much, but people might be willing to spend 80,000.”
The price difference between 100,000 won and 80,000 won changes everything.
And if you buy the full set, they offer a small discount—about 75,000 won for all eight.
So, the composition of the set matters. Rion explained that including four 6th Gen VTubers in the set might make it seem less special.
“The set has to feel diverse. Even if the 6th Gen is doing well, the seniors have a more established fan base. We can’t just pack it with only 6th Gen.”
“I see. That makes sense.”
“And… there are other factors involved.”
Rion let out a small sigh.
“So, you two will be recording voice clips tomorrow. We can watch Sanrabi later.”
***
The next day, I arrived at the recording studio with Chel, driven by Rion.
If I had forgotten, it was that Chel and I were still relatively new.
That meant we needed guidance from our seniors.
And, as if to remind me of this,
“Hey, mom!”
That was the first greeting I received.
I wasn’t particularly short for a woman, but I had to look up.
Long legs, hair that reached down to her waist, which must have been difficult to manage.
Or maybe it was a sign that she didn’t care much about maintenance. After all, VTubers could make money without ever meeting people in person.
Maybe that’s why her hair was so long.
On top of being tall. Was she trying to mimic the eight-foot-tall ghost trend from the internet?
“How tall are you?”
“One-eighty.”
“What about the last digit?”
“You’ll get hurt if you find out!”
She was tall and thin, her limbs noticeably slender. It made me worry if she was eating properly.
Still, her height made her imposing. Even her hesitant demeanor felt intimidating.
Chel seemed scared, sticking closely to my back.
“Ainatsu.”
Another thing I had forgotten: Ainatsu was my senior.
When I called her name, she smiled widely.
“We still have some time. Want to go to the district office first? I hear they’re giving out adult adoption papers.”
In a calm voice, Ainatsu began spouting nonsense again.
