Chapter 111: Chapter: 111 Celestials, Demons and Humans. [3]
Vivian's mind couldn't accept it.
The words felt too big, too strange, too far from everything he knew.
"Humans?" he repeated again, his voice shaking with disbelief.
"Why would they need to balance us? That makes no sense."
"From what you've told me… from this sword alone… demons and celestials are far stronger than humans. They could crush us like ants."
His fingers tightened around the hilt.
The idea that beings who ruled emotions itself had once worried about humans felt impossible.
He took a slow breath and tried again, his tone still doubtful.
"Humans are weak. So why would they ever need to balance us? We are obviously inferior to them."
Robwin didn't answer right away.
He looked down for a moment, thinking, then lifted his head with a serious look in his eyes.
"Humans are anything but inferior," he said quietly.
Vivian blinked, confused and waiting.
"How so?" he asked.
Robwin's gaze grew firm, as if he were repeating a truth he had carried for many years.
"Humans are called the spirit of all things," he said.
"It means humans can grow in ways no other race can. A human who sets his heart on something can change land, sky, and even fate."
Vivian stared at him, unsure if he had heard correctly.
Robwin continued in a calm, steady voice, "Celestials were born strong. Demons were born strong."
"They had power from the moment they opened their eyes."
"But humans… humans were born with almost nothing. No wings. No magic. No gifts. Only a small life and a heart that feels everything."
Vivian listened quietly, not wanting to interrupt.
Robwin's voice had taken on that slow, steady tone that only someone who carried many years of study could speak with.
"Humans may have frail bodies," Robwin said,
"and we may lack talent when compared to demons or celestials… but we have something they do not."
Vivian didn't say a word.
He felt as if every sentence Robwin spoke opened a new door in his mind.
People who explained things so patiently… so clearly… were rare.
He felt grateful without even realizing it, and he waited for Robwin to continue.
After a moment, Robwin asked softly, "Do you know what we have… that they don't?"
Vivian shook his head honestly.
"I don't know," he said.
He truly couldn't imagine what these god-like beings lacked.
Robwin drew in a calm breath and spoke,
"They lack emotions."
Vivian frowned at once, confusion rushing through him.
"Emotions?" he repeated quickly. "But… don't they have the ability to control certain emotions? Like a part of their body?"
He spoke fast, unable to hide his surprise.
To him, celestials and demons were beings who ruled emotions.
How could they lack something they commanded so easily?
Robwin nodded slowly, picking up the thread of his own explanation.
"Yes," he said, "they can control emotions… but only one. Even the Celestial God and the Demon God are the same."
"Each one controls a single emotion. Some rule love. Some rule hatred. Some rule pride, envy, hope… but only one."
As he spoke, Vivian felt something spark inside him, a feeling so sharp and bright it almost hurt.
His curiosity climbed higher and higher.
Every new fact opened another door, and behind that door was another mystery waiting.
He leaned forward slightly.
"How so?" he asked, unable to hide the hunger in his voice.
Robwin chuckled softly, the warm kind of laugh that came from seeing someone truly eager to learn.
But he didn't make Vivian wait.
"They can control one emotion their whole life," Robwin explained.
"For example, if a being gains authority over love… then love becomes the center of his whole existence."
"He can feel other emotions, yes, but he can't control them. His dominant emotion will always be love."
Vivian listened closely, his eyes fixed on Robwin's face.
Robwin continued in his steady, patient voice.
"But it doesn't mean his love becomes wild or obsessive. No. It's the opposite."
"He has perfect control over that emotion. He can shape it, guide it, even share it with others."
"That is what makes them powerful. Their emotion does not control them. They control it."
The idea felt almost unreal to Vivian.
A being that could bend a single emotion with such perfect mastery… it reminded him of the sword in his hand, the hatred sealed within it.
Robwin went on, "The same goes for demons. If one gains authority over hatred, then hatred becomes his main force."
"But again, it does not burn him. He controls it as easily as moving his hand."
Vivian swallowed, trying to hold on to every word.
Robwin's voice lowered slightly, as if he were letting Vivian in on a truth many had never understood.
"All celestials and demons are like this. One emotion. One authority. One path."
He paused there, watching Vivian's expression shift and tighten.
"And humans," Robwin added softly, "are nothing like them."
Vivian stayed silent, but his eyes widened little by little.
He could already sense where Robwin's words were headed, yet he didn't dare speak.
He simply listened, his breath held without knowing.
Robwin drew in a long breath before he continued.
"We humans are different… and maybe even dangerous," he said slowly.
"Because we have the potential to rule over every emotion."
Vivian couldn't hold it back this time.
A sharp breath escaped him, a small gasp of astonishment.
The idea stunned him so deeply his mind went blank for a moment.
He stared at Robwin's gentle smile, words stuck in his throat.
Robwin went on, his tone calm but firm.
"Of course, nothing is confirmed. The ancient records are vague."
"And the religious texts show humans as weak creatures, crushed by demons and saved by celestials."
"But the ancient texts… they speak with less bias. They hold more truth than any holy book, and they are not baseless."
Vivian swallowed, waiting.
"To prove this idea, we have a few hints," Robwin said.
"Take Princess Charlotte, for example."
Vivian's whole face turned red at once.
He looked away, smiling in a stiff, embarrassed way.
Robwin chuckled softly.
"She loves you deeply. Anyone can see that. But let me ask, does she only feel love toward you? Does she not feel other emotions just as strong?"
Vivian blinked, unsure. "I… I don't get it."
Robwin nodded.
"My mistake. Let me explain it clearly."
He leaned forward a little, his voice steady and simple.
"It is said that when a celestial or demon gains the authority of an emotion, they feel that single emotion much stronger than all others."
"From the moment their life begins, that emotion becomes their center. If someone rules love, then love is always the strongest force inside them."
"Other emotions will never stand equal."
He paused to let that sink in.
Vivian nodded slowly.
"But humans," Robwin said, "are nothing like that."
His voice gentled as he used Charlotte again as an example.
"If Princess Charlotte sees you hurt… do you think she would only feel love?"
Vivian shook his head, his blush fading into a thoughtful look.
Robwin smiled.
"Exactly. She would feel fear. Worry. Anger at whoever harmed you. And all of those emotions could rise as strong as her love, maybe even stronger."
He let out a slow breath.
"That is what makes humans different. We do not have just one dominant emotion. Any emotion can rise to the top. Any emotion can grow beyond the others."
He looked at Vivian with a calm but meaningful gaze.
"And if these old records are right… that very trait is what made humans the most unpredictable beings in the ancient world."
Robwin let the silence stretch, giving Vivian time to breathe, time to swallow everything he had just heard.
Only when Vivian's eyes steadied again did he continue speaking.
"That is why humans are called the spirit of all living beings," he said softly. [RI reference?]
"We have the potential to do anything and everything, as long as our heart pushes us."
Vivian made a small sound of agreement, a soft "hmm," as he sank into thought.
His eyebrows drew together, and after a moment he lifted his head.
"Is it… possible to rule over every emotion?" he asked slowly.
"Because from what you explained, if a human wants to control an emotion, he first needs to feel it."
"And not just once or twice. He would need to feel it many times, in different ways, right?"
Robwin nodded lightly. "Yes. That would be the nature of it."
Vivian looked even more puzzled.
"But then… how?" he asked.
"We don't have long lives. Humans only live maybe eighty, ninety, a hundred years."
He continued. "To understand and control every emotion… wouldn't that take thousands of years?'
" Maybe even more? How can a human ever reach that level when our time is so short?"
Robwin closed his eyes for a moment, as if listening to a distant memory.
Then he opened them again, and there was a quiet heaviness in his gaze.
